My Christmas Wish

"Do you remember me?

I sat upon your knee

I wrote to you with childhood fantasies…"

– from Grown-Up Christmas List

Grown-Up Christmas List @ Yahoo! Video

For over a decade now, this has been one of my very favorite holiday songs. I can't listen to it without feeling the mingled love and joy and hope touched with just a bit of sadness that come this time of year. (Yes, even during the holidays there is sadness. But without the bitter, there can't be the sweet.)

Writing My Christmas Wish, I...

The Awkward Family Thanksgiving

Madness, that's what the past three weeks have been. In a good way. Which, if there must be madness, is the best way to have it.

I'm almost ready to put my feet up and relax. Family gets here tomorrow – yay! There's a few more than usual coming this year, although still not quite as many as I'd started to hope. I've got most of my Thanksgiving dinner shopping done, and almost everything on the spreadsheet is either green (done) or blue (on track). No pink (warning) and no red (oh crap!). ...

What are you doing this week?

Kristen asked this morning, "What's your week look like?"

I'm so glad I'm not the only one looking at my calendar and wondering how it's all going to get done.

I started doing the Holiday Clean this past weekend. It's not just because I've got family coming in town next week (although that's really good incentive). It was also because the house is just too freaking messy. In about 39 days, there will be yet more "stuff" coming into the house. It's reached the point where some of the current ...

NYT oops – sorry Ms. Kenyon and and Ms. Roberts

Do you think Sherrilyn Kenyon or Nora Roberts mind that one of their best selling new releases is getting matched with the others 1990's best selling cover art on the NYT best seller website?

Sherrilyn Kenyon is probably buy doing the "#1 dance", and Nora Roberts is getting some extra screen time (love Born in Fire, I think it's my favorite in her Born in trilogy – see, she just got even MORE screen time). So probably not all that much [image error]

(That's not a screencapture of my GH entry – this is from the edits of My Christmas Wish, which comes out Dec 1st.)

I've been sending out my GH entry to just about anyone I can beg to read it a few trusted crit partners and beta readers, trying to find errors and weak points and anything that fresher eyes than mine can catch. I don't think I've ever sent the exact same "something" out to so many people before (5 now) at the same time read the exact same t...

Where I Write

I don't know what makes me so fascinated with pictures of where other authors write. It is very cool to me to see where some of my favorite worlds were created.

Anyone Else But You

I've got a few hours of quiet time this morning, so I'm about to unplug and find a few pages shaking around in my head.

But first, I took a few minutes to do a long overdue iPod playlist update. Out with the Summer Pool List (I did say it was long overdue) and in with the Spooky songs. And mock me if you will, but the Christmas Playlist has returned!

Also the Juno Soundtrack, which includes this song (I like this off-key version, because that's what it sounds like if I try to sing it...

Buckles and belts

If you're a writer, you should check out Nathan Bransford's "The 3rd Sort-of-Annual Stupendously Ultimate First Paragraph Challenge" It's good stuff, some hilarious, some so bad you know it has to be bad on purpose, and all of it a guaranteed good time if you like this sort of challenge. Yeah, my WIP is in there, but good luck finding it in what looks like it will soon be several thousand entries. I guessed 5000 when it opened, and a friend thinks it's going to come closer to 6000/ Both ...
