'Ray' Rachel Alice Garnett (1891-1940), née Marshall, was an illustrator and author. In 1912, she joined the Central School of Arts and Crafts, University of the Arts London. A close friend of Vivien Gribble, she was one of the earliest pupils of Noel Rooke. She was the wife of David Garnett with whom she had a son, the author, Richard Garnett, she was the sister of Frances Partridge and Thomas Marshall, and daughter of William Cecil Marshall, architect and runner-up in the very first Wimbledon tournament.
Ray died relatively young of breast cancer.
