The Tiny House Festival at Lawrence Public Library

Last fall, some colleagues of mine at the Madison Public Library put together a housing resource fair to extend on themes discussed in Matthew Desmond’s book, Evicted, which was the Go Big Read book for the UW-Madison and wider Madison community. One of the coolest things they highlighted during the resource fair was a Tiny House that parked outside of the library for tours and Q&A, so when I saw the announcement about a whole festival dedicated to Tiny Houses at the Lawrence Public Library,...

Book to Boogie: “So Many Feet”

Book to Boogie is a monthly series that pairs picture books with dance and movement activities for preschool story time. The series is curated by Kerry Aradhya of  Picture Books & Pirouettes  and written by a different guest writer each month. We hope that children’s librarians, as well as classroom teachers and dance educators, will find these activities useful and fun!

Featuring: Peter Erskine

Today I’m happy to introduce Peter Erskine, an American installation artist who specializes in creating Solar Spectrum Environmental Artworks made from pure sunlight. Several of Peter’s works are installed at libraries in California and Oregon. Beyond his projects for libraries, and across the US, Erskine has installed artworks in the ancient Roman Forum, the Rome and Milan railway stations, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt museum in Berlin and sites in the UK and Spain.

See more of Peter’s wor...

Listen Local Live at Johnson County Library

by Bryan Voell

In January, 2015, the Johnson County Library launched our Listen Local project. Updated weekly, Listen Local is a blog that focuses on original songwriters and composers living in Kansas City (Kansas and Missouri) and Johnson County, Kansas. This project began as a way to bring locally-produced music in digital form to our patrons. (For a more comprehensive history of Listen Local, click here.)

Since its inception more than two years ago, Listen Local has grown to include nearl...

The Labs @ CLP: The Further Electrified Adventures of the CLP Music Department

The Labs program launched in 2012 with a focus on a teen audience and while teens are still the focus of The Labs we’ve been looking for opportunities to engage other age groups across the Library. While Tara’s project is not a Labs project it is certainly in keeping with the experiential and experimental nature of The Labs. I hope you’ll enjoy reading about Tara’s great work with synthesizers at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Main Library in the Music, Film & Audio Department.

Enjoy.

Curious and Curiouser: The Challenges and Benefits of a Two-Year Exhibition

by Rebecca Hopman
