Release Day Blitz The Silence of Lir

Why Fantasy Fiction?
Why fantasy fiction? For me it is by far the most fun genre to write in. Can’t figure out how a character gets out of handcuffs? Oh, did I forget to mention his ability to make metal turn into cotton candy? He can also breathe a knockout gas at will and shoot hummus out his fingertips to feed the masses delicious Middle Eastern cuisine. No, none of the characters in Saga of the Spheres shoot condiments out their appendages, but there is plenty of invisibility, teleporting, divining, immortality and some really big muscles to speak of. Fantasy fiction adds an extra layer of intrigue to any plot. If you’re writing a murder mystery, adding a few vampires allows for more plot twists. If you’re set on a love story, I believe a little book called Twilight proved fantasy fiction could be the genre for you. Do you really want to write about the normal person down the street, or do you want an odd presence to follow them around? Fantasy fiction allows me to let my imagination go nuts. I can change the laws of gravity, invent whole races and even reverse death. It’s a heady thing to have that much freedom. I operate best in a universe with flexible rules. Doesn’t everybody?

Teaser Excerpt:
Finn coughed up blood. If this was how he was finally going to die, he’d make sure to cause as much damage as he could before his last breath.
“Hold still, Dust.” Finn heard the impatience in Eli’s voice. Impatience, not fatigue. Finn’s fortitude sank as he realized there was no way he could defeat this… man? God? Hallucination? Whatever he was, in all of Finn’s centuries on earth, he’d thought surely that he was the only anomaly.
This morning he was proven wrong. Eli was superior to him in every way. Stature, strength, ability, and if he was telling the truth, Eli was older than him as well. Were the super man not attacking him right now, Finn would have been excited to meet such a creature.
Finn swung his fist in the direction of Eli’s temple. Like he was swatting at a fly, Eli batted Finn’s arm away. “All right,” Eli grumbled. “Could we move this along? I’m supposed to take you with me, but it’s going to look bad if you don’t go willingly. She’s waiting.”
Finn spat blood in Eli’s face. “The only way I’ll go anywhere with you is in a body bag.”
“That would be so much easier. Unfortunately, I have orders.” Eli yanked Finn up by his t-shirt and shoved him against the dank wall of the cave. He spat in Finn’s eyes and covered them with his large hand, murmuring something in a language Finn could not understand.
Finn’s vision went from dark to a swirl of colors. Faster than a roller coaster, the world spun at a sickening pace.
When the spinning ceased, Finn found his mind’s eye in another plane of existence. The cave disappeared and his brain melted into submission as it was forced to watch whatever Eli had in store for him.
Finn began to make peace with his ever-long life coming to an end.

The Silence of LirBy Mary Twomey
Book 1Genre: young adult fantasy fiction

Available as a free download on Amazon June 1-5
Behind the scenes of our spinning earth are keepers of the elements who make sure that tornados don’t destroy cities, fires don’t ravage forests, earthquakes don’t decimate towns, and floods don’t take out humanity. They wrestle with the natural elements to ensure that the world keeps spinning smoothly on its axis.
Since the beginning of time, the Sun has been fading, and the light that shines on the earth is dimming, causing the elements to be more volatile and impossible for the keepers to control.
Now they must enlist the help of one man, Finn, to help them bring the light back to the Sun. The keepers war, the North Star steals light from the Sun, and the Moon is in disrepute. The end of existence is coming, and all the while the king, the Moon, Lir, remains silent.

Now On Tour Saint Sanguinus by Julia Phillips Smith

I’m thrilled to begin my month-long blog tour here at Fang-tastic Books.
My Dark Ages tale is a return to the more monstrous side of vampires. There are two main groups of vampires in SAINT SANGUINUS: the fanged predator type of vampire, and a brotherhood of guardian vampires who stand between the clans of undead and humans.
I set the story in Dark Age Briton because it continues to be a little-known period in world history. Yet, following that time, the witch hunts spread rapidly throughout Europe and the New World. It’s an easy stretch to imagine that the Dark Ages hides its supernatural tales beneath forgotten histories.
At the center of this story is the brotherhood, made up of warriors who cursed God with their dying breaths. I pulled warriors from the known world to make up this brotherhood. Welsh warrior Peredur joins a Byzantine fighter, an ancient Polish prince, a Frank, a Viking, a Brigante from what is now northern England and a Pict.
We also meet the two cultures who coexist in an uneasy truce:The Welsh villagers--Tanwen must fight her chieftain father’s efforts to marry her off to the blacksmith, now that her beloved Peredur has perished on the battlefield.
The vampire clan lead by Lord Muirdach—the surrounding villages provide them with enough blood to slake their thirst, until the insatiable hunger of two newly-made vampires escalates, urging the human villagers onto a path of destructive vengeance.
SAINT SANGUINUS is a dark tale of lovers willing to defy death if it means one more chance at life with their beloved.

Saint Sanguinusby Julia Phillips Smith
Book blurb:
An elite brotherhood stands between humans and vampires, preventing one side from annihilating the other. Who are called to this service?
Only those warriors who curse God with their dying breath. Welsh warrior Peredur falls to a spear before he can claim Tanwen for his bride. Raging on the battlefield, Peredur utters the curse that seals his fate and leads him to another life. Using the power of a saint whose bone makes up an amulet, Peredur takes on the trials to become a true member of the brethren. Yet his need for the chieftain’s daughter Tanwen still burns.
Tanwen resists her father’s command to take a husband. The only one who understands her sorrow is Cavan, the wise woman’s son. When he promises that he can reunite her with her beloved, she agrees to his terms.
But does Tanwen truly understand the depth of the price that must be paid?

Big Game by CJ Ellisson Excerpt and Giveaway

1000-word Excerpt from Chapter One of Big Game, we’re in Vivian’s POV

The soft hum of the jet fades into the background noise of the small cabin. Rafe exits the cockpit and locks eyes with me across the tight space. His rugged face carries a tired grin, and his blue eyes look weary. He’s been flying through the daylight hours as we make our way down the globe to Argentina, where our final destination is a small private island off the southeastern coast.
His muscular form, encased in well-worn jeans and a snug black t-shirt, looks as delicious as ever. Worry pinches my husband’s expression as he heads back to my location opposite the plane’s bar. Chelly, lounging on a brown chenille couch, shifts her attention from her eReader—more than likely trying to catch a last glimpse of Drew who took over flying duties. Her long blond hair hides her expression from me, but I’m sure I’d see a hint of longing on her face. She deflates when she sees Rafe and goes back to her reading.
She and Drew, the one-hundred-and-fifty-year-old vampire who came to our resort as a guest last fall before joining our seethe, began dating this winter. Now he only feeds from her, taking bagged blood for extra nutrition when needed. To my knowledge, he hasn’t yet claimed her by exchanging blood to make her his servant. He does treat her better than a simple blood donor, more like one does a companion. His old-fashioned ways make for a cute courtship display, but I doubt Chelly can take much more of the long tease. When Drew invited her on this trip, she nearly jumped his bones on the spot.
Bob, one of our ground crew, plays cards with Tommy —our imported Aussie who usually mans the inn’s front desk—and Paul, our fledgling vampire. The three men crowd around a small table set between four plush seats, each wearing an intense look while examining his own cards. Their voices are pitched low, but every so often their excited chatter fills the cabin. Tommy glances up as Rafe walks by. The sandy-haired young man folds his cards and slips into the aisle behind my husband.
Rafe leans down and kisses my cheek before settling into the club chair next to mine. A half-glass of red wine sits before me on the round cocktail table bolted through the cream carpet. In honor of our destination, I’ve changed to South American wines instead of the Alaskan vampire favorite of hot coffee. To appear uncouth at Tribunal gatherings holding a mug instead of a crystal goblet filled with bloodwine would be an unacceptable faux pas. But I admit, I do miss the mild caffeine jolt.
“Tired, darling?” I ask.
“Yeah.” A heavy sigh escapes him as he runs a hand across his forehead and back over his short light-brown hair. “Flying through the last storm was a challenge. Head winds slowed us down quite a bit.”
On our right, Tommy stands behind the glistening marble-topped bar. “Can I get you something, sir?”
“A Yuengling, thanks.”
The young man pours beer into an ice-cold pilsner glass and sets it on the low table. After a nod of appreciation from Rafe, Tommy heads back to his cards.
Rafe stares at the amber liquid but doesn’t drink. “I’m worried, Dria.”
“I know.”
“The talk with the seethe about your manipulator abilities went well, but it won’t be the same with the Ancients.”
“Yes, our group took it surprisingly well.” I stifle a smile at the reminder of that night after the hunt. No one will ever forget Paul’s confusion and mini-freak out. Asa, our ex-military vamp, only nodded as if confirming something he suspected, and Drew listened in stony silence. I haven’t quite pegged him yet, but he pledged his loyalty again with the others easily enough, showing no hesitation.
Glancing at the shaded window blocking the night sky, I debate on raising it to view the stars. “The idea isn’t to tell the Ancients; I’d never risk that. The plan to arrive earlier than in previous years is to surprise them—find out who knows or suspects what I can do.”
“And then what? Slip into their minds and alter what they know?” He shakes his head. “Too risky.”
“The alternative is to kill them.” I stare at Rafe and see the concern he never tries to hide. “Depending on how many of the Inner Circle we’re talking about, that might not be smart—or plausible.”
Rafe grips the chair arms, his frustration and anger quickly outweighing his previous concern. “Twenty-two members of the Circle and eleven Ancients, not to mention an unknown number of powerful gophers and lackeys on the fringe doing their bidding. Too many variables. I prefer a concentrated and planned attack.”
“We’ve gone over this before, love. What choice is there? Let them come to us in Alaska where we have over a hundred humans in our care?” I shake my head. “I won’t put them at risk. Not an option. Besides, we normally head down south when the season changes, making it impossible to run the inn for vampire guests. This early fact-finding mission in Buenos Aires is the best way to go.”
“Yes, yes, your ‘beard the lion in his den’, crap. I get it.” He reaches for his beer and drains half the glass before setting it down. “I worry there’s more than the three members you’ve speculated on.”
Bitter resentment and rage coil in my middle. For years I’ve hidden my ability and ran from certain death, only to find I’m now cornered in a remote location with twelve dozen lives at stake. Fight or flight. That’s what any predator would do when left with no options.
“I don’t plan on running again.” Anger leaks through my tone and the tension in the cabin rises. “The only option is to infiltrate and bring a stealthy battle to them.”
“Won’t they be expecting that? Coraline visited back in January. It’s foolish to think they haven’t done anything in three months.”
“If it were me,” I say with a deadly smile, “I would have attacked immediately.”

Big GameBook Three The VV Inn Seriesby C.J. Ellisson
In this much-anticipated third installment of the V V Inn series, our sexy couple journeys to Argentina, bringing half their seethe along for the ride.
Vivian and Rafe venture into the Seat of Darkness, the Tribunal’s base, to uncover who’s plotting them against and why. From a cold, windy island off the southern Argentine coast, to the decadence of Buenos Aires, the group has plenty to keep their attention—seductive twins, deadly games, and a bunch of bloodsucking fiends who hate our much-loved, despotic innkeeper enough to see her dead.
Asa and Jon stay in Alaska, to manage the famous inn as it opens doors to a new type of guest. Visiting werewolves go on their first exploration of the property, looking for big game—hormones run high and shots ring out across the tundra. Soon, the hunters become the hunted and the peaceful getaway resembles a battleground.
How many will survive the next five days and will they ever be the same again?
Warning: This book contains very explicit sex scenes and is not intended for readers under 18.

The HuntBook Two The VV Inn SeriesC.J. Ellisson
Vivian thinks she can control every aspect of a deadly game with her usual manipulations... but what if she can't?
Seven vampires and seven werewolves pay to hunt a supernatural criminal across the cold, vast grounds of an Alaskan resort. The one to catch her, and live through the encounter, will increase their power by feasting on hers.
The tiny vampire they track is more than she appears, however. To escape a fate of twelve years in silver chains, she'll do anything to survive the weeklong excursion. This time, the darkness holds more than just the stinging bite of the Arctic--it holds death.
Journey along, in this next installment of The V V Inn series, for a wild ride as the tale is told through the eyes of all the new seethe members.

Vampire VacationBook One The VV Inn Series
Meet Vivian. She’s a 580-year-old vampire who exudes sex, has a talent for drama, and is passionate about two things: her human husband, Rafe, and their resort for the undead. Her ability to project physical illusions has created the perfect vacation spot—a dark, isolated Alaskan hideaway where visitors can have their wildest fantasies come true.
Vivian knows the best performance requires perfect timing, but the powerful vamp is put to the test when she discovers a corpse in a locked guestroom minutes before the next arrivals. Always cool-headed, Rafe hides the body, convinced he and Vivian can find the culprit without disturbing their guests.
Juggling the increasingly outrageous demands of their customers while tracking a killer isn’t easy. Will their poking and prodding give them the answers they need, or will it uncover secrets Vivian would kill to protect?

Rogue's Pawn Excerpt
“Enough,” a male voice said.
As if I’d ceased to exist, Tinker Bell blinked her eyes and regained her lovely self, face smoothing, shining once again in sunny elegance. Reboot and resume program. She gracefully stood and glided to the tray, set the bowl precisely in the center, lifted the tray and left the room without hesitation.
Booted footsteps crossed the room toward me. Act II, scene ii. Exit Nasty Tinker Bell, Enter God-Only-Knows-What-Now. My face was sticky with whatever the brothy stuff had been, my hair wet and fouled. I stank. I hurt. I was chained to a bed in a place so completely unknown I couldn’t begin to understand it. I tried to squeeze my legs closer together, but the chains seemed at the limit of their reach. The energy of my brief triumph evaporated, allowing tears to well up again.
Oh, please, please, please, do not cry. The threatening sting worsened. I closed my eyes and one tear leaked out. He stopped next to me, surveying me.
“You’re certainly a mess.” His wry voice was rich and smooth.
My eyes snapped open to glare at him through the blur. Fifty different smart remarks flew across my tongue, most along the lines that any failures of appearance on my part could be laid on the doorstep of someone besides myself. But even the buzz of the first word on my vocal chords brought searing agony. Relieved to have a legitimate reason for the tears, I almost welcomed the searing sensation.
“No, don’t try to talk—no one needs to hear what you have to say, anyway. Not that we can help it, since you think so loudly. And you have a decision to make. We have a quandary.” He began pacing, boots echoing against stone. “No one can heal you while you’re bound in silver and we can’t release you from the silver until you have yourself under control. Which will take a considerably long time—perhaps years of training—if you’re even able to accomplish it at all.”
I thought of the birds crashing in increasing cacophony with a small shudder.
“Exactly,” he confirmed. “And yes,” he said from the window behind my head where he seemed to be gazing out, “I can hear most of your thoughts—another reason to save trying to speak aloud.”
My stomach congealed in panic. Had he heard my secret thoughts? Don’t think of them, bury them deep, deep. Think of other things…like what? Think of home, think of Isabel. Isabel, my cat—Clive hated her. What would happen to her now? How could I not have thought of her until this moment? Abandoned, wondering why I never came home for her… And my mother—she’d be frantic. How long had I been gone? They could be all dead and buried, lost to me forever. The anguish racked me.
“Shh.” The man sat on the side of my bed now, heavier than Nasty Tinker Bell. He brushed the hair back from my forehead, then placed his long fingers over my brow and, with his thumbs, rhythmically smoothed along my cheekbones, wiping away the tears that now flowed freely.
I stifled a sob. I had cried more in the past day than I had in years. The sweeping along my cheekbones soothed me, melting warmth through my skull. The rhythm became part of my breathing. Deep breaths. Smooth, easy. The awful tightness in my chest gave a little sigh and released.
“Let’s try again, shall we?” The man pulled his hands away. I could hear him brush them against his thighs. Soup, tears and blood. Yuck.
My eyes cleared enough for me to see him. Ebony-blue climbed over half his face. The winding pattern of angular spirals and toothy spikes swirled out of his black hair on the left side of his face, placing sharp fingers along his cheekbone, jaw and brow. For a moment, the tattoo-like pattern dominated everything about him. Ferocious and alien.
Once I adjusted, I could see past the lines. His face echoed Tinker Bell’s golden coloring. He could be her fraternal twin, with those same arched cheekbones. But where she was golden dawn, he was darkest night. Midnight-blue eyes, that deep blue just before all light was gone from the sky, when the stars have emerged, but you could see the black shadows of trees against the night. He shared Tinker Bell’s rose-petal mouth, but with a curious edge to it. I suppose a man’s mouth shouldn’t remind one of a flower, and there was nothing feminine about this man. Where she wore the pink sugar roses of debutantes and bridal showers, his lips made me think of the blooms of late summer, the sharp-ruffled dianthus, edges darkening to blood in the heat. His bone structure was broader than hers but still seemed somehow differently proportioned, his arms hanging a bit too long from shoulders not quite balanced to his height. Inky hair pulled back from his face fell in a tail down his back. One strand had escaped to fall over his shoulder and I could see a blue shimmer in its silk sheen.
He arched his left eyebrow, blueness in the elegant arch, repeating the deep shades of the fanged lines around it.
“Shall we?” he repeated.
I stared at him. What was the question?

Review Vampire Free Style Issue 6

I adore the colorful covers and art of the Vampire Free Style comic books.
My 13 year old daughter loves them too.
I honestly don;t read a lot of graphic novels or comic books because I like linear reading not boxes and bubbles. However I love the art. Being a visual person seeing such eye catching covers and pages of art pulls me in and makes me want to explore.
Once inside the books I find...I kinda like it there. I have read and reviewed the first five books in the series so I was quite pleased to get book 6.
Witches, magic, love, vampires...and a black cat. What's not to love?
The story is complex and magical and it keeps you reading though I must admit I am more enchanted by the artwork than the story. The artwork really tells the story.
The covers are full color and absolutely gorgeous while the inside is done in glossy black and white with a modern gothic feel. The overall effect is mesmerizing. You keep turning the pages to see more.
And the story will pull you in with it's romance, the quirky characters, the magic....it will not disappoint.
Be sure to drop by the website http://www.neptunefactory.com and  Facebook page to see some of the artwork: http://www.facebook.com/vampirefreestyle and see where you can get your own copy of Vampire Free Style.

Vampires are Sinking Their Fangs into Flint this Fall

Flint, Michigan May 26, 2012
There’s a new event coming to Flint in the fall of 2012- Flint Fang Fest.
Local Flint author, book publicist and lifelong Flint area resident, Roxanne Rhoads came up with the idea for Flint Fang Fest in part thanks to the popularity of vampires and werewolves in current pop culture trends. You see them everywhere: in books, in TV shows like The Vampire Diaries and True Blood, and in movies (the most popular being the Twilight Saga- in which Breaking Dawn Part 2 opens in theaters November 16, 2012).
She believes Flint Fang Fest has the potential to bring an economic boost to Flint with a fun and modern pop culture twist- which will coordinate perfectly with other Halloween festivities in the area.
She hopes that Flint Fang Fest can become the “Back to the Bricks” for paranormal enthusiasts.
This year the Flint Horror Convention is in its second year and will be held on October 20. The Flint Vampire Ball is in its fifth year and will be held on October 27.
Flint Fang Fest will start with the Flint Horror Convention on October 20 and end at The Flint Vampire Ball on October 27. Both events are in downtown Flint at The Masonic Temple.
Throughout the week there will be events all over the area- geared for young and old- something for everyone. From author book signings to a vampire theme pin up fashion show featuring local pin up models and a sexy burlesque show performed by the Fischer Bodies.
Fang fest organizers are seeking more downtown businesses to participate in Fang Fest, especially during the day on Saturday October 20, on Friday evening October 26, and Saturday October 27. The goal is to create events throughout the downtown area that patrons can walk to or just have a short drive to.
The HorrorCon will be going on all day October 20 and The Vampire Ball vendors' event will be going on from 11-5 October 27 with the ball starting around 7pm- both at The Masonic Temple right on Saginaw Street.
By holding an event that ties in with Fang Fest, whether a special sale, a product, even a fun menu local businesses could draw a lot of foot traffic from Horror Con and The Vampire Ball to their business on those key days.
All participating events and businesses will be included in promotional advertising for the event- on the Flint Fang Fest web site, on the Facebook page and on fliers and other promotional materials.
You can view the events that are currently scheduled at http://flintfangfest.blogspot.com/p/fang-fest-events.html
If you would be interested in taking part in this unique opportunity to breath new (undead) life into Flint, give local businesses an economic boost,  help local charities, and have fun while doing it please contact Roxanne at RoxanneRhoads@bewitchingbooktours.com to discuss the possibilities.

Press Release: CJ Ellisson Touring with Bewitching Book Tours

Contact: Roxanne Rhoads, Publicist Bewitching Book ToursRoxanneRhoads@bewitchingbooktours.com

Author C.J. Ellisson is touring her sexy erotic vampire series the VV Inn with Bewitching Book Tours throughout June and July.
Sterling, VA May 26, 2012
Join the ranks of paranormal enthusiasts with C.J. Ellison’s collection of vampire books, a series called The VV Inn. C.J. will be touring with Bewitching Blog Tours in June and July, allowing readers to take a peek into the world of urban fantasy and romance.
Big Game is the third book in the VV Inn series featuring vampires Vivian and Rafe and it promises to be just as sexy as the first two books in the series but this isn’t your average erotica novel, Ellisson’s books, while featuring vampires, address relationship issues that many deal with in real life.
“I’ve read the genre for years, and the most annoying recurring trait throughout the bestsellers is the main characters' lack of relationship stability and constant bed-hopping.
“That may be fine when you’re young and twenty-two,” Ellisson continues, “but when you’re a mature reader it gets annoying that your favorite genre completely overlooks the difficulty and challenges of keeping a relationship strong and sexually healthy as the years go on. Which in my mind is a heck of a lot harder than falling into lust with the latest hot guy.
“Why can’t the heroine save the world, solve the crime, and journey to unknown lands with a strong man by her side supporting her?
“That’s what I wanted to read, so I wrote it.”
The main character of Ellisson’s novels, Vivian, owns a resort for the undead.  Her ability to project illusions has created the perfect vacation spot—an Alaskan hideaway where visitors can have their wildest fantasies come true.
In book one, Vampire Vacation, Vivian discovers a corpse in a locked guestroom minutes before the next arrivals. The second in the series, The Hunt, opens with seven vampires and seven werewolves preparing to hunt a supernatural criminal across the grounds of the Alaskan resort. Third in the series, Big Game promises two adventures, one involving the shooting of a werewolf at the Alaskan resort and another that lead us through Vivian and Rafe’s challenges of tracking down who suspects Vivian’s most well-guarded secret.
Big Game Book Three The VV Inn Seriesby C.J.

Merlin, Gargoyles, and Mermaids Guest Blog and Giveaway with Priya Ardis

In the world of My Merlin, there are several races running around today’s world. One is, of course, the regulars. Regular human beings. (I happen to like this set!) Our main character, Ryan, is a Regular. It was important for me to show in a world of supernatural creatures that a normal (albeit kinda brainy and a perfectionist) girl could hold her own.
Second, there are the Wizards. The main characters here are our heroic Merlin and his more pain-in-a-girl’s-backside brother, Vane. The wizards (much like in Harry Potter) live in secret, but the twist is that they are somewhat mercenary. For generations, they’ve been selling magic to maintain their wealth and prominence.
Third, there are the baddies—Gargoyles.  They look like anyone else. Except when they turn. You got it fangs, Cro-Magnon forehead, super-strength. They’re a deadly clannish controlled by one gargoyle king. Oh, they’re also super-healers so they’re near impossible to get killed.
Fourth, in My Merlin Awakening, you meet Triton’s children—the mermaids. Gorgeous, green-skinned, and with gills, these are not your average carefree mermaids. They are a little crazy, a little vicious, and a lot blood-thirsty. Dressed more Spartan than Disney, they make life interesting for our heroes.
More than an Arthurian series, the world of My Merlin mixes the ideas of chivalry and magic (put on your cute bunny slippers here) with more up to date supernatural creatures (wait, your cute bunny slippers has fangs! Bunnicula, anyone?)

My Boyfriend Merlin, Book 1, is available through most major book retailers. My Merlin Awakening, Book 2, is now available in limited release at Barnes and Noble. It will be out in full release in mid-June 2012.  Ever My Merlin, Book 3, will be available in late 2012.

Sooner than she’d like Merlin (aka Matt) has her chasing mermaids on the trail of the Fisher King. The wounded King, defeated by Merlin’s brother, Vane, in the past holds the key to save the future.
On the journey, Ryan begins to realize the friends she thought she knew, she may not know at all. At a time of shifting alliances, she must decide whose side she’s on—the brother who struggles to do right or the brother who dares to break the rules?
And Ryan must decide who she is—a regular girl or a champion? One wrong decision and her family falls apart. One wrong decision and the world falls apart. No pressure.

Excerpt 77 Days in September by Ray Gorham

Excerpt 77 days in September
High above the sun-baked prairies of Lawrence, Kansas, the missile reached its target.  No one on the ground even noticed the blast.  Perhaps had someone been looking at precisely the right location, at precisely the right time, they might have noticed a tiny, momentary spark in the bright afternoon sky.  Had they seen the flash, it likely would have been attributed to the glint of sunlight reflecting off a passing airplane.  From every vantage point below the detonation, there was no sense of the destructive capacity contained in that tiny speck of light.  More than 300 miles above the earth, a nuclear explosion impacts nothing with the force of its blast.  It is merely a large bomb going off in a vacuum, creating no shockwaves, no fireballs, no radiation, not even any sound.  Despite the lack of explosive destruction, this was now the most lethal weapon to be unleashed in the history of the world, but it was a weapon that would have had absolutely no discernable affect on mankind 200 years ago, other than creating a more colorful aurora.  Upon detonation, the bomb expelled an intense wave of gamma radiation in every direction.  The gamma rays traveling earthward interacted with the upper levels of the atmosphere and created a chain reaction of displaced electrons that rushed towards the surface of the earth at the speed of light.  Most of the these displaced electrons passed rapidly through the atmosphere and grounded themselves harmlessly in the earth.  A small percentage, however, encountered conductive materials:  metal, antennas, copper wiring, and silicon chips.  As these conductors absorbed untold billions of free electrons, they experienced sudden surges in both voltage and current.  In simple items, like a garden rake, this surge was manifested as a harmless static electricity-like spark.  But in larger networks and sensitive objects, the consequences of the electron overload were devastating.  ******
They sat in silence, lost in their thoughts and watching the pandemonium.  Ed spoke after a long period of silence.  “I don’t think we’ll be flying out of here today, even if we want to.  I don’t think anyone is.  This is completely different from anything I’ve ever seen or heard of.  With all those crashed airplanes, there should be hundreds of emergency vehicles from all over the city out there, but I didn’t see a single one.  There should have been enough help for us, even with the other planes down.  I bet we’d still be waiting out by that airplane if we hadn’t come in on our own.  Something is wrong at a level I can’t fathom.”Kyle nodded.  “I’ve been thinking the same thing.  I think everyone is.  You can see it in their faces; there’s a fear and helplessness that I’ve never seen.  Of course, ho

77 Days in September
By Ray Gorham
Genre: Thriller, Suspense, Post Apocalyptic
On a Friday afternoon before Labor Day, Americans are getting ready for the holiday weekend, completely unaware of a long-planned terrorist plot about to be launched against the country. Kyle Tait is settling in for his flight home to Montana when a single nuclear bomb is detonated 300 miles above the heart of America. The blast, an Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP), destroys every electrical device in the country, and results in the crippling of the power grid, the shutting down of modern communications, and bringing to a halt most forms of transportation.
Kyle narrowly escapes when his airplane crashes on take-off, only to find himself stranded 2,000 miles from home in a country that has been forced, from a technological standpoint, back to the 19th Century. Confused, hurt, scared, and alone, Kyle must make his way across a hostile continent to a family he’s not even sure has survived the effects of the attack. As Kyle forges his way home, his frightened family faces their own struggles for survival in a community trying to halt its slow spiral into chaos and anarchy.
77 Days in September follows Kyle and his wife, Jennifer, as they are stretched past their breaking point, but find in their devotion to each other the strength to persevere.

Interview and Giveaway with Laura DeLuca

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I am a mom of four who lives at the Jersey Shore.  I have always wanted to be a writer, but it was favorite author from my high schools years, Christopher Pike, who inspired me to write thrillers and paranormal novels for young adults.
What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires or witches, that fascinates you so much?
I am a practicing Wiccan, so the paranormal is part of my everyday life. When I was writing Destiny and Destiny Unveiled, I used the knowledge born from personal experience to add a little realism to the supernatural aspects of the novel.
What inspired you to write this book?
The original Destiny was inspired by a dream. But it was my best friend and coven sister, Donna Brown, who inspired me to write the sequel.  There is actually a new character named after her, and the book is dedicated to her.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Destiny Unveiled is the second book is what I hope will be a series of five novels. Gabriella meets her Aunt Donna for the first time since her mother was killed. She begs Gabriella to help save her catatonic daughter from the Dark Coven before they can unleash her powers. But Donna isn’t telling Gabriella everything, and there is way more at stake than just the life of her cousin.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
Sometimes, a name just comes to me, and I know it’s the right one. It’s like the characters are naming themselves. But more often, my characters are named after the people around me whose personalities match the characteristics I want to portray.
Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
The Destiny series alternates view points between Gabriella and her boyfriend Darron. This was necessary to be able to tell the story the way I wanted to, but I definitely found it difficult to write from the perspective of a guy.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
I love writing about Gabriella’s best friend, Flora, because she is exactly like me. She says all the wrong things at all the wrong times. But she adds an element of comic relief to an otherwise serious story, which makes her fun to write about.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
They usually develop on their own. I have very little control over them. LOL
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
My favorite scene is the roof top ritual where Gabriella and her friends face the Dark Coven.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
Once when I was writing a murder mystery in high school (before the internet), I called a local electrician, and asked him if a certain electrocution scene I was writing would really work. He told me, yes, but, “Remember your number is on my caller ID if I hear of this happening at the prom.”
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of?
Can these books be read as stand alone?
They can be read stand alone, but it would definitely be more exciting to read them in order. If you read Destiny Unveiled first, it will contain major spoilers for the first book in the series which will ruin some of the suspense.
Do any of your characters have similar characteristics of yourself in them and what are they?
Definitely Flora. She looks like me and acts like me. She always puts her foot in her mouth, and she never knows when to shut up.Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?  The only time I had writers block was when I was pregnant, but I spent most of that time sleeping anyway. Luckily, I won’t have to worry about that any more since I’m done having kids. J
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
I always write my first draft like I’m still in the 90’s (which is when I was a teen). I have to force myself to add in things like computers and cell phones when I go back and edit.
Do you write in different genres?
In in addition to paranormal, I also enjoy writing thrillers. I recently had another novel published entitled, Phantom, which is a modern day telling of the Phantom of the Opera.  I also hope to branch out to adult novels sometime in the future.
Do you find it difficult to write in multiple genres?
Not at all. I go with whatever inspiration comes to me, and it’s more fun to mix things up a little.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
I started calling myself a writer in first grade when I wrote a picture book about two bunnies who got married.
What are your guilty pleasures in life?
Right now, writing is my only guilty pleasure. With four kids and a business, every free second I have is spent at my keyboard. But there is nothing I love more, so I’m not complaining.
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
I love to read and spend time with my children, especially at the beach. I also practice Reiki and my spiritual journey with Wicca and paganism is definitely my main passion in life.
What was the last amazing book you read?
Taking 1960 by Rosa Sophia. It’s an awesome paranormal mystery, written by my editor.
Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?
I love reading at the beach, especially in the off season when I’m the only person there. It’s also my favorite place to write.
What can readers expect next from you?
I am currently working on a fantasy novel called Morrigan. Morrigan is a teenage witch who has been shuffled from one foster home to another all her life.  Now she is about to discover she is a princess from the mystical land of Tír Na NÓg. The handsome werewolf Filtiarn guides her through countless perils to find her mother, Ceridwyn, and grandmother, Hecate. Only together can they complete the magical triad and save their world.
Where can readers find you on the web?
You can find me on my blog: http://authorlauradeluca.blogspot.comor on face book www.facebook.com/authorlauradeluca
Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
Here is an excerpt:
Darron was on the roof of a large building, elevated dizzyingly high over the road below. Other skyscrapers bordered it, but it was by far the largest building in the general area, standing several stories higher than it's neighbors. The few cars that dotted the street below looked like insects. Above him, the moon shone full, round, and red in the night sky. It was an autumn moon, a blood moon. By the light of that moon, Darron was able to see the practiced movements of six black-cloaked figures, who swayed to the steady beat of an invisible drum. Their shapes were obscure in the pale light, and it was impossible to determine if they were men or women because the dark, hooded robes they wore hid their features from view.
There was an altar erected in the center of a circle that was outlined in black charcoal. On that altar sat the normal tools of ritual: a black tipped dagger, a silver chalice, an incense burner, and multiple black candles. Darron owned similar items. They weren't frightening in themselves. But the altar, like the people who lingered around it, was outlined by a shimmering black aura. The vibrations they relayed were no less than evil. Their presence made Darron shudder. He watched in horror, as a silent and unwelcome spectator to the forbidden rights.
Four of the cloaked figures took up the elemental corners, preparing to call the Guardians. The Guardians answered their call, unable to ignore the summons because magick can't be divided into good and evil. It's both because nature is both, harsh and devastating yet beautiful and gentle as the need arises. It was just as easy for the dark witches to harness the destructive forces of nature as it was for Darron and his coven to call upon its life giving magick. Good or evil was in the heart of its master, not in the magick that was wielded.
A fifth cloaked figure, the apparent leader of the group, stood in the center of the circle with the dagger raised high above his head. The sixth and final coven member groveled at the feet of the leader, his head lowered in acquiescence. The hood of his cloak hid his face though he was no more than a few feet away from Darron.
"Brother and sisters," the leader proclaimed, his accented voice heavy with his foreboding presence. "Tonight in the wake of the blood moon, we come together to bring a new brother into our fold. He has completed the required tasks and proven himself worthy to join us in our work."
"So mote it be!"
The four other cloaked figures cried out in perfect unison. Their hands were raised to the sky in honor of the blood moon.
The leader picked up the chalice from the altar. He followed the path of the circle to all of the elemental corners, stopping at each of the robed coven members in turn. Each offered their willing hands to their leader, palm outward. Each welcomed the point of the black edged dagger as it dug into their open palms without so much as a gasp of pain. The high priest cut a clean line down the centers of the palms of his disciples, and they all squeezed their fingers against the open wound to allow the blood to drip into the waiting chalice.
After collecting the offering from his followers, the leader returned to the center of the circle and the waiting initiate. With one quick motion, he sliced open his own palm. He held his hand over the cup, letting his blood drip slowly into the chalice, until the wound miraculously healed before Darron's startled eyes. When the chalice was full, he carried it to the eager initiate who took the cup firmly into his hands and tilted it towards his lips.
"As this blood makes you one with our flesh, so your soul follows to become one with the darkness," the English voice intoned.
As the initiate drained the last of the liquid in the chalice, his hood fell away, revealing a blonde ponytail pulled back over a pale white face, made even paler by the outline of bright red blood around his lips. Darron watched in stunned, horrified silence as his own face turned to meet his gaze. Eyes turned as black as coals stared back at Darron with a grim smile of satisfaction.
"Rise Darron," the leader commanded. And as he spoke, he lifted the hood from his head. Rise brother of the Dark Coven."
