Excerpt:
“So tell me how you feel.”
I must be pretty heavily sedated because when the therapist asks me that question, the word “feel” comes out sounding like it’s a slide. I’ll just bet if I could climb on top of that slide, I’d be able to slip from the room and not have to answer that stupid question. I shake my head. What does she mean, how do I feel? I feel like been given something like heroin or Clonazepam or Secobarbital or some other mind-numbing agent. I feel like I weigh a thousand pounds, and I’m looking at her through thick glass walls and she’s talking to me through some kind of filter made of seven layers of dense foam. I feel like…wait, I know. I’m in here because I’m different. I’m sitting here with what feels like two hundred pounds of cotton between my ears because they don’t “get” who and what I am. They think there’s something wrong with me. They all think I’m broken. She pushes up her glasses on her nose and taps her pen on the arm of the brown leather chair in which she sits, like a prim, porcelain doll. “I’m waiting.”“Are you talking to me?”Her face is wrinkled, like an Amish Apple Doll. Her dyed brown hair needs a touch-up. White and gray roots serve as a flag to her age. She smiles, a crisp, stiff smile like peanut brittle. “I don’t see anyone else sitting across from me, do you?”I picture taking her smug smile in my fingers and snapping it in two, resulting in my own satisfied smile. “Where’s Daniel?”“Who?”“Daniel Navid. My soul bound lover.”She frowns and scribbles a few notes in the black binder sitting on top of her lap. She smoothes her blue tweed skirt. Clears her throat. Tries again. “How do you feel right now, Ms. Engles? Your sisters were pretty concerned about you when they brought you in here.”“Where, exactly, is here?”“You don’t know?”“If I did, I wouldn’t ask the question.”The therapist nods, as if I’ve just said something profound. She gestures to the room with her certificates of accomplishment and education lining the beige walls like little soldiers. “Well, you’re at the Brookstone Center for Healing, in Bellevue, Washington. Do you know where Bellevue is?”“Are you kidding me? I’ve lived in this area all my life. I live over in West Seattle, two bridges away from Bellevue. Of course I know where Bellevue is.” I reach up and rub my eyes, trying to clear the spider webs, mud puddles, and sludge clouding my mind.“Do you know what day it is?” The peanut brittle smile appears again.I want to smash that smile with a hammer. “Yeah, it’s today. And yesterday was yesterday. And tomorrow’s going to be tomorrow.”She taps her pen. Scribbles. Frowns. Scribbles some more. “So you don’t actually know what day it is.” She says that as a statement, not a question.“Let’s see, two days ago I was in Brazil, and it was Thursday. That must make today Saturday. What do I win?”“What were you doing in Brazil?”I pause and squint at her. This is a trick question. “I was visiting a friend.” I was kidnapped by a demented sorcerer. I stabbed his dead, but not really dead, girlfriend’s chest, and she exploded and her crystal dagger pierced the old man’s heart.“I see.”“And how did you get back from Brazil?”“I flew.” On a beautiful winged creature known as a Coati-lumina. Her name is Chiara, and she allowed me to claim her a few nights ago. She’s huge and brilliant, and she shines like diamonds. “Where’s Daniel?”“There was no one at your home but you when your sisters stopped by. They were very worried about you. Said you were having a completely delusional conversation with them. Do you remember what you said?”I incline my head and study her. Another trick question. “Maybe.”“Can you tell me what you said to them?”“Will you let me go if I do?”“I’m afraid not. I’m afraid we need to keep you here for a while. Your sisters were very worried.”“You already said that.”“And they decided that a good psych evaluation was in order.”“Oh, they did, did they?” I’m going to murder them. I’m going to strangle the daylights out of them. In my mind, I pick up a pricey sable paintbrush and paint them as tiny fragments of skin and bone, being blown to smithereens. “What gives them the right to have me evaluated?”“Your aunt still holds guardianship. She was the one who ordered this.”Aunt Topaz. “I’m 26 for God’s sake. I’ve lived on my own since I was 18. I think I get to be my own guardian, don’t you?”“In this case, no. When someone is…when someone is ill…” She pauses, frowning. She was going to say mentally deranged. They all think I’m delusional because electricity flows through my veins, and I can burst into brilliant light and paint things with my mind and will them into…“When someone is ill it falls to the guardian or parent.”I don’t think that’s true but can’t argue it right now. My head is so heavy I need a crane to keep it upright. I purse my lips trying to remember something about my aunt. This goddamn drug is making it hard to think. My mouth is dry. I want to leap into a lake and suck it into my throat in one long swallow. Think, Engles, think. And then it all came back to me, like someone shot a memory cannon through my head, blasting open my brain. My dear Aunt Topaz hid my abilities away from me when I was 15. She and Daniel’s father, Armando, cast a spell over me and wiped my memories clean. And now she put me here? Armando and Aunt Topaz are definitely on my to-do list. I just don’t know what to do - yet. My hands squeeze tight, capturing my anger. I restored my Light Rebel skills with Tom the sorcerer’s help. He taught me how to hunt like a predator before taking me on an ether trip to discover what happened. When I showed Daniel my newly restored light, he…I swallow my arousal and blink back tears.Daniel. He’s a Night Numen and commands the darkest of the dark. He can wave his hand, rip the atmosphere in two, and draw foul creatures from wherever the hell they live. Thinking of his handsome tan face, stubble-covered jaw, eyes that are hypnotically blue, 6’1” muscular body, dark hair that falls in his face when he’s on top, his bronze skin, his hips, his legs, his hands…thinking of him makes me seriously horny, even with this drug-filled, muzzy-headed haze between my ears. And then I get a little mad. I mean, a couple of weeks ago he did bind my soul until the end of time to his without asking me, but it might have been for my own good. Might have. Not sure. Still a little miffed. We’ll sort it out by and by. I really need to see him. I need to get out of here - now. “I want to go home. I want to talk to Daniel. I need to see Daniel. I need to take care of my dog, Sober Dober.” I nod, satisfied with this statement, certain that it will yield results.“I don’t know who Daniel is. Your dog is being well-cared for by your aunt.”I lunge to my feet, or at least I want to lunge. It turns into more of a lurching wobble. “Aunt Topaz has my dog? That’s just wrong. Aunt Topaz hates things that are messy. She detests mess and color and light and…” And Sober has brand new sparkly wings. They’re training wings. He’s not very good with them yet. He got his wings when I restored my light. But I don’t say that. I dare not say that. I’ll be in this place for a million years if I tell her my dog has wings. About the Author:

Walking in my Character’s Shoes: Guest blog with Heaven and Hellsbane Author Paige Cuccaro

Walking in my Character’s shoes
Location is one of the most important details in any story. For HEAVEN AND HELLSBANE, I chose a place I know and love—Pittsburgh PA.
I grew up about 45 minutes south of the vibrant city in a small town named for its stop on the Pony Express—Eighty Four PA. My little rural town was so small we didn’t even have a stoplight. So for me, growing up, Pittsburgh was a huge city full of glamour and possibilities.
When I reached college age and enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh, I realized the city wasn’t exactly New York City, but it was still chock full of wonderful people, amazing culture and…like I’d always suspected—endless possibilities.
So when it was time to choose a setting for a big hearted, fundamentally noble and slightly sarcastic, half human-half angel heroine, (a.k.a. Emma Jane Hellsbane) I knew there was no better place than my favorite city.
The fact that I’d grown up so near to Pittsburgh, and had been in and around its many streets and neighborhoods most of my life helped. It gave me the advantage of knowing what the city feels like, how its people think, and what makes it special. I tried to use that knowledge to enhance the setting in HEAVEN AND HELLSBANE.
But like in any book there are critical scenes where the setting isn’t just a backdrop, it’s a character all by itself. In HEAVEN AND HELLSBANE key places like Emma Jane’s home, the overlook where Emma Jane practices her sword skills, and PNC Park where a major event takes place, all played an integral role. (You’ll have to read the book to find out what and why.)
This summer, after living in Ohio for the past 14 years, I finally got the opportunity to take my family back to my beloved city and take a walk in my character’s shoes.
We visited the exact overlook where Emma Jane defends her boyfriend Dan.

From the overlook we could see Point State Park, and PNC Park, both key locations.

But even with my personal knowledge of the city there were still some details I needed help with. Google maps is awesome for figuring out street names, police jurisdictions and how long it would take a person to drive from Saint Anthony’s in Troy Hill to a house on Cook Street in McKeesport.
As much as I love Pittsburgh, there is one other place I was lucky enough to visit and where I knew I had to set one of the most pivotal scenes of the series. Positano Italy is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been and I really think my memory of the colorful seaside town helped enhance the story.
While I’m lucky to have actually been to some of the locations where Emma Jane Hellsbane lives and breathes, with a story about all powerful angels and demons who can travel the world in the blink of an eye, there’s no way I could visit every location. Luckily in this day and age a writer doesn’t have to take an exotic trip around the world to give her reader a good feel for a location. With image searches, Google maps, satellite and street views, we can go almost anywhere from the top of the Corcovado mountain in Brazil, to the dirty streets of Mumbai India.
For those sensory details that can really bring a setting to life, check Wikipedia, Flickr and even Facebook. It may sound a little creepy but you’d be surprised by the amount of rich detail you can glean from the people’s family vacation photos and the unique quirky captions and commentaries of those who have been there.
Happy writing! Happy reading! (Embrace the creepy)

Book Description:
Someone’s killing angels and turning the half human, half angel illorum warriors against their angelic supporters. If the supernatural baddy behind the attacks isn’t stopped soon, Heaven itself could fall victim. The Council of Seven has called in the best they’ve got to find the killers, and no one’s more surprised than Emma Jane Hellsbane when it’s her phone that rings.
But when her own angelic mentor—and off-limits hottie—Eli is targeted, Emma takes it personally. With Emma hot on the trail of the growing army of assassins, though, hackles start to raise around her. Everyone wants to know if she’s in it to protect all angels or just one in particular. The Council has their suspicions…and so does Emma’s boyfriend.
Now Emma isn’t just fighting off demons, rogue nephilim, and Fallen angels, but she’s defending her honor as well. The problem is even Emma Jane isn’t sure of her motives. One thing she does know: if she doesn’t figure out the killers’ identities soon, she may not live long enough to know what, or who, she really wants.
It’s all in a day’s work as Heaven’s ultimate bounty hunter.

About the Author:
Writing was never a foregone conclusion for me. I once had dreams of being a psychologist, a pediatrician, a school teacher, a photojournalist, a bartender, and/or an EMT. And then I met my husband and my world came into focus. Being wife and mother are my highest priorities and greatest joy. But escaping to the fanciful, sexy worlds twirling through my mind is an absolute necessity. Putting those worlds, and the cornucopia of characters that people them, on paper is just plain fun.
Paige lives in Ohio, with her husband, and three daughters. When she’s not writing she can be found doing the mom thing with a book in one hand and a notepad and pen in the other. Ideas come without warning and the best way to stimulate your imagination is to enjoy the imagination of someone else.

Interview and Giveaway with Victoria Danann Author of Gathering Storm The Order of the Black Swan Book Five

What inspired you to write this book?
The saga is based on the idea of multiple realities existing within the same physical space, but unknown to each other because of variants in vibration. This is an idea that is becoming more science and less science fiction all the time. The premise of the saga is that there are multiple versions of ourselves existing simultaneously in these other dimensions that are similar but not identical to our own, alternate, not parallel.
I was toying with the idea of being psychically connected to these other versions of ourselves in dreams. I have dreams in which I find myself in an unknown environment, interacting with people I have never seen, yet the dream has the distinct quality of feeling real. I began to wonder if I’m experiencing a glimpse of the lives of some of the other versions of me.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Gathering Storm is the fifth installment in The Order of the Black Swan serial saga. Because it’s part of an ongoing story (that doesn’t mean cliffhangers – hate them), reading in order is highly recommended.
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
The Order of the Black Swan is a serial saga about a young woman who was forced into an experimental device that carried her, against her will, to another dimension similar, but not identical, to her own. She adopts, and is adopted by, a new familial network employed directly or indirectly by an ancient secret society of vampire hunters and paranormal investigators. Her new family includes modern day knights, elves, vampires, werewolves, demons, angels, witches and psychics.
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
The Order of the Black Swan is a serial saga presented in installments. That doesn’t mean cliffhangers (hate them). It means that the story is ongoing. Therefore, only the first book is a stand-alone. After that, you would be cheating yourself out of the full experience if you didn’t read in order.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
KNOCK ON WOOD, I never have.
Do you write in different genres?
Not yet.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
At eight I was writing little Bobbsey Twins novels. They’d be called fan fiction today.
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?Classic Rock music – listening and playing, bridge, movies, travel.
What was the last amazing book you read?
Books are often “amazing” because something within appealed found the reader at just the right juncture in life to strike a chord. For whatever bizarre reason I loved Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley. I say “bizarre” because the title character is the last person I would want to end up with outside fantasy.
What can readers expect next from you?
Book #6, A Tale of Two Kingdoms, will release on December 8th and is THE one many of the Black Swan readers have been begging for. The fae and elves of Loti Dimension have been at war for two thousand years even though the current environment is more “cold” war. The Lady Laiken, as an outsider, has undertaken a search for answers as to what started it all. The saga returns to pure romance as we follow the quest of fated lovers, progeny of the two royal houses, for a happy ever after.

About the Author:
If you're looking for something new and different in PNR, you've come to the right place.
I write unapologetic romances with uniquely fresh perspectives on paranormal creatures, characters, and themes. Add a dash of scifi and a flourish of fantasy to enough humor to make you laugh out loud and enough steam to make you squirm in your chair. My heroines are independent femmes with flaws and minds of their own whether they are aliens, witches, demonologists, psychics, or past life therapists. My heroes are hot and hunky, but they also have brains, character, and good manners - usually - whether they be elves, demons, berserkers, werewolves, or vampires.
My first book, My Familiar Stranger, was nominated for Best Paranormal Romance of 2012 by the Reviewers' Choice  and Readers’ Choice Awards. Each of my books has remained on the Amazon best seller list in category every day since release. All four also earned the Night Owl Reviews TOP PICK award and have remained on the Amazon Best Sellers list every day since release.
My work has been compared to J R Ward, Karen Marie Moning, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and Lara Adrian. For example:
"I do see shades of Lara Adrian's Breed books and shades of J R Wards Black Dagger books, but this story is unique enough that it stands out all on its own and can stand up along side those other books and I think given time will elbow them out of the way with the rich story telling and deep emotional core that makes you want to know more." - Kerry, Musings of a Bookworm
The Order of the Black Swan is a series that is also a serial saga. Each book is an episodic installment in an ongoing story. Join me for the adventure.

Spotlight on The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Tanith Davenport and Anne Bronte

He was already in the room when I entered. I felt his hands rest on my shoulders from behind and he gave a low chuckle at my gasp of surprise. I was in my nightgown—Rachel had helped me disrobe before retiring herself—and his breath heated the nape of my neck as he teased his fingers along the silk edging. I had chosen the material deliberately. It clung to my body, the sheen of the fabric highlighting every curve.“Would you like me to undress, Arthur?” I asked.“No, Helen,” he answered, pressing a kiss to my shoulder and sending a chill along my spine. “I want to undress you myself.”My heart quickened, but I held myself still as slowly he slid the gown from my shoulders. The cool air on my skin made me shiver, my nipples hardening as the soft material dropped past my waist to land lightly around my feet, exposing my naked body to his gaze. I closed my eyes, feeling conscious of my bare skin, the curls at my quim, the growing wetness inside me.“Don’t move,” he commanded, and with his fingers he began a slow, tortuous glide along the curve of my spine. I felt one hand slide around my ribs to cup my breast, his thumb brushing against my nipple, and I was unable to suppress a moan as sparks of pleasure radiated from that tender spot. Instantly the movement was repeated, his other hand mirroring the motion until I cried out, overwhelmed by the unfamiliar sensation.“I love that this is all so new to you, my Helen,” Arthur whispered in my ear as I let my head fall back onto his shoulder, my body weakening as he continued his sweet assault on my breasts. My knees began to tremble. I clenched my fingers tightly, aching for his hands to move lower, to touch me where I had touched myself so often while thinking of him, but afraid he would think me too wanton if I asked. So new to me, indeed! What would he think if I touched myself in front of him? Would he be surprised? No—he would not, I was sure. But he might insist on pleasuring me himself, and my clit pulsed at the thought, imagining myself on the edge of ecstasy, him removing my hands and holding them until I begged him to bring me to completion. He slid his hands down to my hips, leaving me moaning at the loss, and turned me to face him. Before I could stop myself, I reached my hand out to touch his swollen member, which jutted towards me, almost brushing against my stomach. He groaned as I closed my hand around the tip, which was glistening and sticky with moisture, hardening farther under my touch. How strange it was to know that I had such power, that I could bring him such pleasure with only a simple touch! I tightened my grip, feeling the skin move as I tugged, but before I could continue he had caught both my hands in his and was holding them at my waist.“My darling,” he said, with a smile, manoeuvring me backwards as he spoke until my calves hit the edge of the bed. “If I let you do that, I shall lose all control, and that will never do. Lie back for me—let me see you waiting for me.”Trembling, I lay back on the bed, my breath coming faster as he stood watching me, his casual gaze lowering to rest at my quim. Instinctively I parted my legs, blushing as I felt the moisture seep from inside me and dampen my folds. The smile on his face took on a possessive, lascivious quality.“How beautiful you are,” he whispered. Slowly he placed one knee then the other on the bed, the mattress dipping under his weight as he moved towards me. He laid one hand on my breast, my heart beating rapidly beneath.“Arthur,” I gasped. He lowered his head and kissed my nipple, laving it with his tongue, then trailed more kisses down my body—my ribs, my stomach, my hips—until I was trembling with anticipation. His breath rushed over my quim, and for a moment I thought he would kiss me there—oh! How I wanted that!—but instead he paused, watching me with desirous eyes, and slowly slid one finger inside me to the second knuckle.“So pure,” he whispered, caressing me as I moaned. He reached forward with his thumb and swept it back and forth over my clit. I cried out at the sensation, my body convulsing. It was so much sweeter, so much more pleasurable than when I had touched myself, and I longed for him to continue.“Helen,” he growled, “tell me you want this.” I recognised the words from our first kiss, and felt my heart bound and my quim tighten at the knowledge that now I could be truthful. Now I could tell him what I wanted.“I want this, Arthur.”“Tell me how much you want this.”“I want this more than anything,” I moaned. His finger was still moving inside me, his thumb still applying delicious pressure, and my wetness was leaking onto his hand and the bed.“How long have you wanted this, Helen?”Oh, he was torturing me! “Since I first met you,” I whispered, shifting my hips to match his touch. He smiled and crooked his finger inside me, touching a spot that made me clap a hand over my mouth and shriek—the pleasure was exquisite, and I was on the verge of begging him to take me.“Tell me what you want, and I’ll do it.”I arched my back, aching for him. “Please, Arthur, take me.”

Helen attempts to clear her name by offering Gilbert her diary, which reveals the dark, passionate story of her former marriage to debauched rake Arthur Huntingdon, whose sexual and sensual desires fill her with excitement and pleasure but precipitate a gradual descent into hell.

Gilbert believes he could forgive her anything, but the lies continue to spread, threatening Helen’s peace of mind and, above all, her physical safety. Will the secrets of Helen’s past get in the way of their future?

The Adventures of a Paranormal Romance from Idea to eBook

I’ve been writing plays and stories since I could hold a pencil. Yet I have to admit the original concept for “Her Ghost Wears Kilts” came from a 1993 writing class given by Eva Shaw where we had to brainstorm an idea for a genre we didn’t read. Twenty years ago! The card I drew was mystery. Other than the Nancy Drew series when I was much younger, I hadn’t cracked open a mystery in forever.Eva calls her method of brainstorming “bubbling.” My outline or bubbles started as more of a clash between two clans, the Baillies versus the Bruces, my ancestors. The protagonist would inherit a Scottish castle where all those before her had been killed. I truly enjoyed flushing out more of the story and gave it a working title of “The B & B Mystery.” Over the next ten years I kept notes and scenes, but reality and writing non-fiction pushed the castle mystery further aside. I had three fiction works in progress during these years and pulled one or the other out now and again. Writing is my addiction, my passion, yet I put all other responsibilities ahead of it. My day job is for a short-run book printer and to gain better experience to help my customers, I self published my debut romantic comedy “Changes in Attitude” with a fun and dynamic side character, Gillian Nation. Eventually it was Gillian himself who demanded inclusion in this musty old castle story idea. He was the nudge to finally write the book. Being gay, he couldn’t be the love interest, but loved to steal scenes every chance he got.Gillian’s energy added more to the story, but the manuscript still sat in a virtual drawer on my computer. Until one day I heard about Abroad Writers Conferences and their next event would be during Thanksgiving week held at Hever Castle in England. This was my “aha” moment. I maxed out my credit cards and signed up, getting the chance to live and explore a castle and its grounds. When I returned reality be damned, the pages flew from my imagination. The next four months were a blur of keyboarding or writing scenes, dialogue, new characters that presented themselves from thin air. I enjoyed every frustrating, blissful, sweat-baring moment. Every good story has a final twist to it, right? I’d begun sending out query letters early in 2013, when I flew to southern California to be on the faculty of a writers’ conference. One of my fellow staff members was Eva Shaw, now good friend and mentor. She had published two books with Crimson Romance and nudged me to send a query letter off that very night. The serendipity of a story idea first created in a class given by Ms. Shaw concluded with the manuscript being accepted by Ms. Shaw’s own romance publisher. Don’t you love a happy ending? September 16 Guest blogFang-tastic Bookswww.fang-tasticbooks.blogspot.com

Interview with Candace Osmond

Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
I'm a big fan of old school names like Charles, Jack, Henry, etc. So it makes it easy to choose names for characters who are hundreds of years old. For modern names and characters that aren’t mythical I tend to search through the people around me. Avery Quinn is the main character in The Iron World Series, and I took her name from my best friend who's last name is Avery.
Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
I think writing the characters from the Dark Court of Faerie were a bit challenging for me because they have to be menacing and scary. I'm far from either of those traits so I find myself watching a lot of horror shows and movies with a lot of evil to draw inspiration.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
Surprisingly, I love writing Max. She's temperamental and a super B*#ch, but just a simple girl underneath it all just looking to be loved and accepted. Her character has many faces and emotions; it's always fun to write scenes with her in them.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I don't create a list of attributes or outline a character sketch. But I do dream up a pretty good idea of what I want them to be before doing any major writing. Then I just let them grow with the story.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
That's easy! I love the ending. It's a major cliffhanger. Throughout the whole book Avery struggles to stay alive and protect her friends, but in the end something happens that makes you scream "Nooooooo!" lol I might anger a few readers, but I think it's worth it.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
Ah, writer's block, my mortal enemy. I suffer from it more than I'd like to. Juggling a freelance writing career, being a mom and wife, all the while working on my own published novels is very time consuming and can take its toll. There are days when I don't even want to see my computer. But, I just remind myself that writing is what I do, it's what I love. It makes me whole. And when I need some inspiration I just pick up a book by my favorite author and start reading. It always recharges the batteries.
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
Yes! I require something caffeinated and something crunchy to stay at my computer. Also, when I need to write a certain mood or dramatic scene I pull out my customized writing playlist and listen to songs that embody that certain mood or emotion.
Do you write in different genres?
Actually, not many people know this, but I do. I'm a published YA author with the Iron World Series, but I'm also a published Erotic Romance Writer. Some works are under my own name but I also have some under a pen name, Jennifer Shires. Other than that, I am branching off into New Adult. (Don't worry, I will always write YA and Urban Fantasy, it's my true love)
Do you find it difficult to write in multiple genres?
Not at all. I know not every writer is the same, just like not every person is the same. We all have things that inspire us, scare us, and drive us to react or create. I go through phases in my life and those phases give birth to new ideas.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
Believe it or not, I didn't consider myself a real writer after I was published. It wasn't until I started a freelance writing career on the side that I truly felt like one. I think it's because writing my own stories is more of a passion, I don't look at it as a job. But freelancing literally is just that, a job.
What are your guilty pleasures in life?
Watching Netflix and going to movies. I'm a huge 'cinophile' lol I speak fluent movie quotes. (Don't judge) But I just love curling up on the couch with my blanket and crunchy snacks and watching full seasons of my favorite shows on Netflix.
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
Oh dear, this list is long. I'll just stick with the top five. I love making giant, crazy diaper cakes. Weird, I know. But it's so much fun. I also enjoy making jewelry, painting, making my kid laugh, and paint balling.
What can readers expect next from you?
Ooo, I like this question! Right now I'm in the midst of putting together something big. Along with some other industry professionals, I'm creating a platform for new writers and aspiring authors that will help them break out into the publishing world and will also help improve the quality of indie books available to the world. That's about all I can say right now, but stay tuned for more details! I'll be announcing stuff on Facebook and Twitter.
Where can readers find you on the web?
The Iron World Series on Facebook, @candaceosmond on Twitter, Candace Osmond on Wattpad, or via the contact form on www.ironworldseries.com. I LOVE hearing from readers and other writers, so don't be shy. And, yes, I always write back.
Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
Change has an irrevocable impact on the mind, body and soul. To the fearful it’s threatening—it means there’s a possibility that things could get worse. To the hopeful, however, it’s encouraging because it means things could get better. Was I fearful or was I hopeful?I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling in my sunlit bedroom and pondered about that. To most people this wouldn’t be so stressful. To most people change meant a new hair color or a new job. But I realized a while ago—I am not most people.

About the Author:
Born in 1985 as Candace Osmond in North York Ontario, I began to travel with my parents at the very young age of four years old. I had lived all over Canada and seen everything my country has to offer, from the enchanting shores of Newfoundland to the gigantic snowcapped mountains of British Columbia all by the time I was ten. I did, however, spend most of my life in Eastern Canada where I was surrounded by folklore and legends, not knowing how they would shape my personality and imagination for the rest of my life.
Being the only girl of my age in a small group of kids, in an even smaller town, left me spending most of my time by myself and, in result, letting my imagination take over. I would sit by the shore and dream up stories of mermaids and other fantastic creatures to pass the time. Coming from a family with writers and artists dispersed throughout, it was only natural that I spend my time writing, drawing and reading. I dreamed of becoming nothing more than an artist, a creator of any kind. By the age of eleven, I spent most of my waking hours scribbling down short stories, poems and anything else I could think of, while adding my own personal illustrations. By the age of fourteen, I had won numerous local and minor arts and writing competitions.
I excelled at anything art and literature related so, naturally, I planned to attend university for nothing more or less than that. In 2003 I planned to attend university for Creative Writing and Literary Studies. But, with the fear that I would spend all my time and money on an education and end up in a field that I may very well struggle to succeed in, I backed out and attended school for Design instead. Now, a successful Designer specializing in interiors, I met a man and fell in love. His passion and talent for art far exceeds my own, but he motivated me and awakened my old habits of staying up late and waking up early to scribble down dreams and ideas before I had forgotten them and they disappeared forever.

Tag Line: She's given up hope of peace, yet the Alpha's touch offers promises too hard to run from.
Blurb:
Ashwood Falls’ leopard Alpha, Keegan Andrews holds onto the pain of his deceased mate as his own personal hell—a reminder that not all things are what they seem. The Pack Scribe, Addyson Lewis is no exception. She’s intrigued him like no other since the day she stumbled into Ashwood territory about twenty-five years ago. When he discovers that just being near her calms the storm inside him, he can’t stay away even if it means exposing her to the evil she tried to escape.
Over a hundred years of psychological torture at the hands of the rogue Onyx Pack has left Addyson with no memories of her life before captivity and with the inability to control her psychometric nature. Anything or anyone she touches sends her into their darkest past and secrets, causing her pain she wouldn’t wish on anyone. Without the ability to control it, she’s forced to deny her leopard the connection she craves from the Pack that welcomed her with love and without judgment. That is, until the day Keegan involuntarily touches her bare skin and she finds the peace she’d craved for far too long.

Warning: Contains one sexy alpha leopard who craves the most decadent of dreams, a hidden treasure contained within a spunky woman

Other Ashwood Falls books: Winter Eve (prequel) A Tiger’s Claim (book 1) A Mating Dance (book 2)

Excerpt:

He stepped closer and studied her as she turned back to the omelet. Keegan ground his molars, took a deep breath, and calmly asked, “Do you like it here?”

She peered back at him, her eyebrows bunched together before she smoothed out her features in that practiced control she used around others. “It’s not home, but it’s nice. I don’t need much, Keegan.”

He took another step toward her. She turned the stove off and handed Will his plate. The boy stood, watching Keegan as if he would harm Addyson. It made Keegan proud of the kid that he’d want to protect Addyson.

Without looking at the teen, Keegan said, “Will, take your breakfast in the living room and eat before it gets cold.”

From the corner of his eye, Keegan saw Will peer at Addyson. When she gave him a nod, he left them alone. Keegan took another step forward, stopping inches from her. He heard her heart beat speed up and smelled her strawberry scent intensify, but not in fear. She was turned on by his presence.

He inhaled deeply, taking in her scent. His leopard rubbed up against his chest, trying to feel Addyson. He’d never imagine in the past thirty-seven years that he’d find another mate. Then Addyson stumbled into his life about twelve years after losing Cate. He wasn’t ready then, the pain still too raw to see what the leopard tried to make him see.

He’d finally started to accept it, accept the fact that Addyson has a place in his heart and in his bed.

Wizards are dying, and something—or someone—from the Beyond is poisoning the waters of the mighty Mississippi, threatening the humans who live and work along the river. DJ and Alex must figure out what unearthly source is contaminating the water and who—or what—is killing the wizards. Is it a malcontented merman, the naughty nymph, or some other critter altogether? Book Description:
As the junior wizard sentinel for New Orleans, Drusilla Jaco's job involves a lot more potion-mixing and pixie-retrieval than sniffing out supernatural bad guys like rogue vampires and lethal were-creatures. DJ's boss and mentor, Gerald St. Simon, is the wizard tasked with protecting the city from anyone or anything that might slip over from the preternatural beyond.
Then Hurricane Katrina hammers New Orleans' fragile levees, unleashing more than just dangerous flood waters. While winds howled and Lake Pontchartrain surged, the borders between the modern city and the Otherworld crumbled. Now the undead and the restless are roaming the Big Easy, and a serial killer with ties to voodoo is murdering soldiers sent to help the city recover.
To make it worse, Gerald St. Simon has gone missing, the wizards' Elders have assigned a grenade-toting assassin as DJ's new partner, and undead pirate Jean Lafitte wants to make her walk his plank. The search for Gerry and the killer turns personal when DJ learns the hard way that loyalty requires sacrifice, allies come from the unlikeliest places, and duty mixed with love creates one bitter roux.

About the Author:
On Aug. 28, 2005, Suzanne Johnson loaded two dogs, a cat, a friend, and her mom into a car and fled New Orleans in the hours before Hurricane Katrina made landfall.
Four years later, she began weaving her experiences and love for her city into the Sentinels of New Orleans urban fantasy series, beginning with Royal Street (2012), continuing with River Road (2012), and now with Elysian Fields (August 2013).
She grew up in rural Alabama, halfway between the Bear Bryant Museum and Elvis’ birthplace, and lived in New Orleans for fifteen years—which means she has a highly refined sense of the absurd and an ingrained love of SEC football and fried gator on a stick.
She can be found online at her website or her daily blog, Preternatura. As Susannah Sandlin, she writes the best-selling Penton Vampire Legacy paranormal romance series and the recent standalone, Storm Force.

Leila Gaskin Hot Flashes Guest blog and Giveaway

Hi everybody, my name is Leila Gaskin and I am the author of the urban fantasy - Hot Flashes. Firstly, I’d like to thank Roxanne Rhoads for allowing me to guest post on Fang-tastic Books. My reading list has increased significantly due to this blog.
When I talked about Ella Hixson, the heroine of Hot Flashes, friends and family often asked ‘why a middle-aged woman?’ My instinctive response is ‘why not?’ The truth is I wanted to write a character I could relate too. Someone who was flawed, quirky, and burdened by all the things she never wanted.
If you were to ask Ella what her life was like, she’d respond – ordinary. Her relationship with her elderly mother is less than perfect, she’s been ousted from her job by her boss’s paramour, she feels stuck in a rut she can’t explain, and she has 20 extra pounds she needs to lose - all relatively normal things. She is a middle-aged woman who dreams of something more.
On the surface Ella is a single woman who works hard and has responsibilities. She holds a black-belt in karate, owns a pit bull, and says ‘no’ to her elderly mother – a lot. While, none of these things are particularly rebellious, together they show that she has been fighting to break free of the monotony of her life. Ella dreams to be more than she is.
Well, the universe was paying attention to Ella’s desire for more.
Her life is turned upside down when she discovers she is Drakkon. A Drakkon, for those who might not know, is an ancient dragon-shifting race that once ruled the wormholes that transect the space between worlds in the Otherverse. This is where Ella’s adventure begins.
She has to learn how to cope with being a Drakkon, redefine her relationship with her mother, find a way to defend Earth against the advances of the Chancellor, and still be home in time to feed her dog.
I hope you enjoy reading Hot Flashes.
Bright skies!  Leila

Book Description:
“Dragons do not exist.” Ella Hixson shrieked as the mythical beasts dive from the sky shredding her car with their impressively long talons and sending her careening across the road in an attempt to avoid the being flambéed. Escaping her car, she grasps the car door in order to prevent herself from tumbling down the slippery embankment. Pouring rain soaks Ella’s interview suit and her dress shoes as she searches the sky for the attacking beasts to find nothing but clouds heavy with their payload of rain.
Hallucinations, relationship destroying fights with her only surviving relative-her mother, and, thanks to a bodaciously bosomed, bottle-blond, jobless, Ella needs the universe to cut her a break.
Be careful what you wish for.
Circumstances conspire and Ella’s mundane existence evaporates when she discovers she is Drakkon, the hidden heir to an ancient dynasty, and she has an enemy who would see all the Drakkon race enslaved or dead.
No more ordinary days for Ella as she learns what it is to be Drakkon, tries to save a world she knows nothing about, and still be home in time to feed her dog.
