Halloween on My Mind

A photo of my Bewitching Daughter
from the Spooky Pin Up to Pin Up Sale
Photo by RSII PhotographyHalloween, Halloween, Halloween....

How I love thee Halloween.

The Halloween stores are opening, all the regular stores are starting to put out Halloween stuff...

Halloween is coming!!!

I need to hit all the craft stores and start stocking up on frightfully fun supplies for crafts and spooktacular Halloween decor. Michaels is always full of a million things I want.

But the go to place for costumes is www.PureCostumes.com . They usually beat all the prices at the local stores. My youngest has not decided what he wants to be for Halloween yet.

It looks like I'll have to take him to a local store so he can see and touch the costumes. He really likes to touch things. Texture is a big deal for him. I completely understand, I'm the same way.

If he finds something he likes I'll check Pure Costumes and see if they have it cheaper.

I am a bargain shopping nut. I will always search online for the best deal. If it is cheaper online that's the way to go- but only if it's cheaper with shipping. If it's not I'll just drive to the store and get it :-)

FYI- online shopping tip- always search for coupons and promo codes for the online store you are shopping from. I always do this before checking out so I can get the best deal. RetailMeNot.com usually has the best codes.

So what are your plans for Halloween? Costume ideas? Decorations?

Book Description:
When Demons threaten Regency London, only a Lady can stop them.
Lillian Dellacourt is beautiful, refined and absolutely lethal. She’s also the most feared and merciless demon hunter in The Company. She’s come a long way from the penniless seamstress’s daughter sold to the highest bidder, and it wasn’t by trusting a man, let alone an exiled Marquis with more on his mind than slaying the hellspawn . . .
For Dorian Lambert, Marquis de Montalembert, being sent to keep track of Lillian is no mean task. He’s wanted the fiery vixen since he first heard of her five years ago. But wooing the lady while fighting the demon uprising is no easy feat, especially when the lady’s tongue is as sharp as the Japanese sai blades she favors for eviscerating the spawn of hell.
These two will have to learn to trust each other fast, because the demon master is back, and he’s planning to turn Edinburgh into a living hell…

Excerpt: Chapter 1
Gripping the chair arms to keep herself seated, Lillian fought an urge to leave and never set foot inside Castle Brendaligh again. It had been a demoralizing battle and they had lost, but they had lived. They had done all they could, but still the demon master had ascended into man’s world.“You failed and we are all likely to die because of it. I hold every person at this table responsible for the state of England. You have ruined us.” Lord Clayton’s voice grated on Lillian’s nerves.Accounts of the battle were clear. Nearly everyone in the room had risked their lives trying to disrupt the ascension, not to mention keep the earl’s daughter, Belinda, from becoming a demon sacrifice. Making such a show of ferocious reprimands insulted their brave and selfless efforts. If not for the fact that he was her best friend’s father, she might have indulged her desire to pull a sai blade from her boot and slice his throat. As if Lord Clayton, the Earl of Shafton, needed to attract more attention, he waved his hands. “You had one mission, to keep the master from entering our world. All you had to do was kill one demon, but you failed. You should all be shot for treason. Treason!”His bright red face gave her hope his heart might fail and save her the trouble of killing him. Other hunters at the table murmured, but no one spoke out.Everyone in this room is to blame. You had the perfect opportunity to end this mess. Nowthe master is free of his realm and living in ours. It’s only a matter of time before he is strong enough to destroy everything we hold dear. When your families are killed mercilessly, will you sit here so unrepentant about failing in your duty?”“Father, really.” Belinda Thurston rolled her eyes.Lillian missed Reece’s steadying presence. Reece might have even been able to stop his lordship’s tirade with a few quick-witted remarks. Her partner had nearly died, and now lay upstairs recovering from demon poisoning.“Don’t you roll your eyes at me, Belinda. You are equally to blame. You were with the master for days and made no attempt to destroy him.”Gabriel, Belinda’s husband, bristled. It was of course a ridiculous statement. The Earl of Tullering was not used to public abuse of his family. “Just a minute, my lord. You are out of order. Belinda was in no position to defeat the demon master. The information she gathered will be very helpful in our eventual victory.”Shafton pointed a fat finger. “I do not want to hear about information that will take years to decipher. You, Tullering, are by far the most culpable. You and that woman”—he pointed at Lillian—“made a conscious choice not to destroy the master.”Lillian reached toward her boot and let the hard steel of her sai blade handle bring her comfort. One second and Shafton’s head could be rolling down the long table and land in Drake Cullum’s lap.Besides Shafton, Drake and his assistant, Dorian Lambert, were the only ones present who had not been at the battle. Their leader, Drake, had attended to assign new orders to the hunters.Shafton said, “You could have destroyed the beast as it rose and was weakened. I know you had the opportunity, but you chose to save yourself. It was selfish and stupid.”Lillian could kill him and no one would be able to stop her. Of course, there were  always consequences when dealing with men in power. She’d lose her home within The Company. Yet another arrogant earl would not take her from her rightful place. She was in control. It was nothing like her youth and the titled man who’d ruined her life.Belinda said, “They saved my life, Father.”“It was the wrong choice, Belinda. You might have cost us our one chance to stop this.” Shafton narrowed his eyes on Lillian.Lillian said, “I can imagine your pleasure if we had allowed your only child to become the master’s sacrifice. Perhaps we should have stood by and watched until the master, with his full power rose, from the depths of hell and destroyed us all. As it is, Reece Foxjohn is still recovering from battle and the rest of us might have been sucked into the demon’s realm. But by all means, my lord, go on and tell us how you know we willfully failed on our mission. I do not recall your life being in danger that day at Fatum Manor. You were safely tucked away in your castle while the rest of us faced death or worse.”“You are out of order, Dellacourt.” Shafton said her name as if it were a curse.Lillian wasn’t sure when she had stood up, but clutching the leather wrapped steel, she rounded the table toward the earl. “If you have something you want to say about my abilities, my lord, I suggest you do so. I will be happy to display them for you, and we can evaluate them together.”“Miss Dellacourt.” A warning came from the other end of the table.“You were not there. You cannot know if we could have destroyed the master. As far as I’m concerned, we made the only choice possible under the circumstances. Maybe if your intelligence had supplied us with the location of the gateway before the master had grown so powerful, we might have been able to seal him in.”“How dare you imply that I failed in some way? You who completely disregard orders  at will.” She had only ever hated one man the way she despised Shafton, and he too was an earl. At least that one was dead. Steeling her nerves, she slid the sai blade through the pocket cut in her skirt. “You speak of orders that were selfish and almost succeeded in getting your own family killed.”“You have no right to question me or my motives.” To his credit, he faced her and stared her in the eye.“I have every right when you point your fat finger at me.”“Who do you think you are? I know where you come from Lillian Dellacourt. I know what you are.”Drake Cullum pounded the table. “Shafton, that will do.” The demon hunters’ leader stood rigid, narrow-eyed. He was formidable when he was calm, but enraging him was never a good idea. He was furious now.Had she gone too far? The idea she might have overstepped her bounds with Cullum was enough to make her relax the grip on her blade. Lillian turned and stormed from the dining room.Shafton yelled something about not having dismissed her from the meeting.Once in the hallway, she pulled her second blade and turned to go back in and finish what she’d started. It would be nothing to remove his pompous head from his shoulders.Cullum stood in the doorway. He smiled at her and closed the door, baring her reentry.Had she ever seen him smile before? No instance came to mind. She stomped toward the front entrance. She’d leave the damn castle, get her carriage, and ride like the devil back to London. Yet the one person in the world she could really talk to was a resident of Brendaligh. Holding her full skirts with both hands, she sprinted up the curved grand staircase.

Guest Blog Revelations: Cast In Blood by Christine Sutton, Lisa Lane, Jaime Johnesee

Coauthoring and ApollyonGuest Blog by Jaime Johnesee
Firstly, I’d like to thank our kind host for allowing me on their blog today. I’m here to talk about my newest endeavor coauthoring the Revelations series. In this series my coauthors and I create quite an interesting world and some folks have asked how I came up with my character Apollyon, aka Polly.

Truthfully, the answer is easy, I wanted to write a demonic Amazonesque warrior who was in charge of keeping Hell on a tight leash. I wanted her to be Hell’s second in command who wasn’t afraid to take the reins but didn’t actually want them all the time.

Okay, so the real hard part is showing all of that yet still making a likeable, and relatable, character. Torture, which Polly does often, is also not easy to show an appealing character doing. I certainly gave it my all and enjoyed every single minute of it.

My character, Apollyon (Polly, to those she doesn’t want to kill.), was an angel. She spoke out against God along with her friend Lucifer and was cast out of Heaven with a whole group of angels that dared to question Him. Lucifer took hold of running Hell and Polly slipped in comfortably as the right hand. She’s held that job for a couple of millennia and enjoys it.

In the first book Polly has to pull a team together to help her track down a lesser demon who escaped Hell. She winds up working with a succubus, who is embattled with herself over her own nature, and a shapeshifter who has had a rough go of it. As the book progresses their jobs change and encompass more difficult duties.

One of those duties they must take on is a mission to save Hell and Heaven. As the series progresses the stakes get higher and so does the tension. If you want to know more, I guess you’ll just have to read the books.

Interview and Giveaway with David Gittlin

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to write in this particular genre?
I believe it started with my own struggle with the forces of darkness and light within myself. A year after writing Scarlet Ambrosia, I see the story through a different pair of eyes.  At the core of the novel is a young man’s struggle with the forces of good and evil within himself and the world around him.  The vampire archetype, I now realize, is a metaphor for my heart’s dream to realize its divine nature.  The supernatural powers and ramped up energy level Devon acquires as a vampire make him half-human and half-god, something like the mythological Greek gods.  He can choose to use his new powers for good or evil purposes.
I believe everyone has the potential to become a divinely human being.  I’ve been a ‘spiritual seeker’ for most of my adult life.  Awakening isn’t easy, but I’ve found it’s worth the effort.  What happens for Devon is happening for me in a much subtler way without the super-human powers, but happily, minus the need to drink human blood.
What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much?
I’m fascinated by the supernatural powers of my vampire characters.  They are very powerful beings with the capacity to dramatically impact the world around them positively or negatively.
Please tell us about your latest release.
My latest release is Scarlet Ambrosia.  I’m working on a sequel because I love the characters.  Scarlet Ambrosia is the second novel I’ve published.  The first one is a humorous Science Fantasy thriller titled “ Three Days to Darkness .”
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
In most cases, I try to make a character’s name reflect something about the character’s personality and traits.  I try not to make it too obvious.  At other times, a character’s name just comes to me and I trust that the name is the right one.  It’s interesting that the derivation of the name often corresponds to a character’s traits by coincidence.
Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
The antagonist of the story, Egon Schiller, was the hardest for me to write.  This is often the case in the stories I write.  There is always a tendency to make the villain two dimensional rather than a three dimensional person with some good traits and intentions.  I feel that the most believable villains are people who have, for one reason or another, given in to their dark side.  A good example of this is Darth Vader.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
Of all the characters in the story,I most enjoyed writing the female love interest, Mathilde de Roche.  Her strength, heroism, and magnetism came naturally as I created her and as I wrote her throughout the story.  That came as a surprise.  I am, after all, a guy.  Like most men, I find women unfathomable in the real world.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I participated in several online screen writing and novel writing courses offered through the writers program at UCLA.  Professional writers taught these courses.  The teachers stressed that the most successful stories have memorable characters in them.  I learned to create my characters before writing the story using a detailed character template.  I’ve found that knowing what makes my characters “tick” helps make them more interesting and believable.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
I spent a week in Sedona, Arizona exploring the town’s art galleries, architecture and the energy vortexes.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
When I stumbled into my career in marketing communications, I found writing to be the most enjoyable part of the job.
Where can readers find you on the web?
The best places to find me are at my main website www.davidgittlin.com and my blog www.davidgittlin.wordpress.com
Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
Here’s a spicy excerpt from Chapter Two:
This woman was beyond beautiful.  She was exquisite—no signs of breast implants or a nose job and no tattoos or piercings marred the natural beauty of her face and body.  Her creamy skin felt like the finest silk to Devon’s probing hands.  He unclasped her bra.  His loins tingled at the sight of her full breasts.  He caressed her erect nipples.  She moaned.  The foreplay had started slowly with exploratory kisses and caresses.  Now he could barely wait to enter her.  Devon removed the last fragments of clothing from their bodies.  The smell of her perfume, the feel of her body, and the sensation of her soft hands on his buttocks almost made him explode prematurely.Being inside this woman was like nothing he had experienced before.  Devon lost all sense of physical boundaries.  The sensual pleasure of joining with Mathilde seemed to fill every cell in his body.  He was only vaguely aware of moving inside her.  Their rising passion consumed him.  She kept repeating something in French.  His back arched.  He climaxed.  The pleasure was too intense for his senses to bear.  He lost consciousness. He woke up next to her on the bed.  She stroked his hair with one hand, propping her head up on one elbow.Feeling embarrassed, Devon shook his head, unable to comprehend the reason for his lapse of consciousness.  “I’m sorry if I scared you.  It’s the first time I’ve ever passed out during sex.”“You didn’t scare me, ma chère.  It only confirms what I was afraid of.”“Which is?”“If we go on having sex, it will kill you.”He laughed nervously.  Had the sex been good enough to cause a blackout? “I can think of worse ways to die,” he said, covering up for his discomfort. She kept looking at him studiously.“You kept whispering something to me in French.  It sounded like: ‘Vous êtez celui que j'ai choisi.’  I think that means: ‘You are the one I chose’”A whisper of red colored her cheeks.  “Your French is better than you admit.”“I don’t understand.   We’ve just met, Mathilde.” “Don’t worry.  It’s just a game I play with myself.  You remind me of someone I once knew: a handsome, high-minded young man with a sensitive heart.”“I’m flattered, but it sounds a little more like a fixation than an innocent game to me.”“Please don’t play the amateur psychologist.” She pushed him off the bed with a movement almost too fast to see.  One second he lay facing her.  The next thing he knew, he lay on his back on the floor.  Her sudden display of uncanny strength and speed frightened him.  Clambering to a sitting position, he began to collect his clothes from the bed.“I’m sorry,” she said.  “I wasn’t thinking.  I didn’t mean to alarm you.  Are you injured?”“I’m still in one piece.”“I actually do study martial arts, in answer to your earlier question.   Sometimes I forget my own strength.  Let me help you with your things.  Are you sure I haven’t hurt you?”He had the impression she was lying.  “I’m fine.  I just think it might be better to leave now.  Who knows what could happen if you toss and turn in your sleep?” “I apologize for leading you on,” Mathilde said.  “I only intended to meet you in the bar and talk with you.  I thought of it as a minor indulgence, to take my mind off things for a while.  I let my curiosity about you cloud my judgment.  Then, meeting you face to face, you had much more of an effect on me than I anticipated.  I lost control of myself.”“Is that something that happens often?”“No,” she answered curtly.  “I’m not that shallow.”Devon’s thoughts and emotions spun like pinwheels.  Part of him wanted to bolt out the door and finish dressing in the hallway.  Another part, the accountant, needed explanations; wanted to analyze and quantify Mathilde de Roche.  In the end, his own curiosity coupled with her charisma kept him rooted by the bedside.“I’ve studied martial arts myself.  I’ve never seen anyone move as quickly as you just did.”She continued to regard him with a serious expression for a full minute before responding.  “You should leave now, Devon.  I won’t be offended.”

The Hybrid by Christine Murphy

After The Hybrid Comes The Companion – Book 3 Of The Wild Clan Sagas
Jessica, who is the youngest and only female of the Wilder siblings, is determined to prove her worth to her family.  “Jessie” has always been treated like a delicate flower when at heart she is just as rough and tumble as her brothers.  Although her family protects her against the evil of BioGen by hiding her within the protected forests of The Wilds, she has secretly trained with the Rogues.  Going against her family’s guidance she plunges headlong into the worst battle yet between the Rogues and the BioGen army and in the end finds herself captive.
As a prisoner of the controlling government of the United Nations of States Jessica is taken on a journey she might not come out of alive.  The threat of death has surrounded her throughout her life but nothing like what she sees in the outskirts of the UNS with the rejects of humanity fighting for the clothes on their backs and the rare scraps of food.  From the lowest of decaying cities to the extravagance of the BioGen Headquarters she is eventually taken to The Inspire where the insane scientific research for industrial births continues.  Once there she is told she is a prime candidate because of her genetics and her enslavement and nightmare truly begins.
In the world of BioGen, male births are few and far between, but those men born within the UNS are enslaved to Handlers and become Companions.  Daman is one such Companion who serves the higher class female Gens of the UNS society, whatever their whims may be.  Secretly, however, his knowledge of the world, his deadly skills learned through other Companions for survival, and his need to be something more has set him apart.  Needing more challenge and adventure he finds himself a part of Defiance – a group of ex-Companion criminals and others like himself still entrapped within the confines of BioGen’s control because of the tracker within his body.
Using his self-taught knowledge of technology, Daman discovers a way to slip the tracking and controlling thumb of his Handler and BioGen.  During those rare times of freedom he travels with Defiance and soon meets not only the Wilder family themselves but Jessica who intrigues him on a level he has never experienced before.  Wanting to help the Wilders, who he discovers are a part of the Rogues, he realizes he must make a choice between the darkness of his current life and the light that beckons from one incredible woman – “Jessie.”  Unable to fight the temptation of her beauty and the spirit of freedom she carries within, he makes an irrevocable decision.
Fighting his way to leader of Defiance he uses the leverage of the group to help the Wilder family and the Rogues in their fight for survival against BioGen.  During one such battle Jessica is taken prisoner by BioGen and Daman realizes the feisty beauty has become more to him than just a conquest.  He will do anything to save her including waging his own personal war on BioGen, the UNS, and everything the society he has lived in his whole life stands for.  In his fight for the life of Jessica, he will find he is committing to a higher purpose above survival, independence, and a peaceful way of life – he will be fighting for the freedom to love.  Thus begins – The Companion.

Book Description:
Sara, a hidden Hybrid disguised as a BioGen Monitor, will find an enslaved Justin being experimented on.  She will help him gain his freedom and in the process will gain her own.  Trust will grow between them and from that trust will blossom a love which will give them the power to escape BioGen.

Excerpt 1:
At first she refused to look at the inside of the room. Instead, she shoved the door closed and took a deep breath. Finally, she focused in enough so from the corner of her eyes she could see the room was the same, unchanged from the past. Same sterile white walls, white floor, silver equipment with the many wires and probes, and same medical trays with the shiny silver scissors and scalpels. All of it in her mind were instruments of torture. All she knew was she had to get a grip or she would soon be the one on the table being experimented on.            Distracted she nearly jumped a foot when the Gatherer dressed in white surgical scrubs stepped into view and called out, “I’d be careful if I were you. Even though he’s strapped down this male is a fighter, especially with the amount of hormones and drugs we have pumped into him. He’s already taken out two Monitors and several guards.”            Immediately on the alert Sara spun around to face the male. In her mental state she had unintentionally wandered straight over to where the exam table was located. Glancing up her intention was to quickly back off, but the moment she looked at him she was frozen in place. Every cell of her being focused in on what could only be called the most incredible male she had ever seen. Lying on an exam table, which was tilted up at a 45 degree angle, he was strapped down by his feet, ankles, waist, and his head.            Sara couldn’t help notice every inch of his body was hard muscle encased in tanned skin and every inch of that body strained to escape the bonds. The only area remotely covered was his pelvic area and even that was barely a scrap of white material. She had read books, she had seen pictures, she had heard whispers from other Monitors who had been privy to seeing a male of such caliber. Nothing did justice to those words or images to Sara. This man was virile and obviously aroused, she was sure, by whatever cocktail the Gatherer had given him.            Feeling a rare blush creep up to her cheeks Sara had every intention of turning away until she looked into the male’s face. The breath immediately left her as she beheld the most handsome face she had ever seen, which was saying a lot, considering what she had seen before were prime examples in books and on-line programs. Even scowling furiously while he fought to free himself he still was incredible with his thick layered raven black hair and eyes of a multi-hued hazel which seemed to see straight into her soul..            Meeting those eyes, she gasped and the air that had left her lungs rushed in with a vengeance. Her world seemed to upend for a moment in time as the chiseled features of that face registered in her mind. There was no mistaking the strong jaw, the cheeks, the nose, everything that marked this man as one of the mysterious Wilders, the founding family who had rejected BioGen’s requirements. Deep inside she knew she had to do something to save him, but no matter what she did she was damned. Save him and reveal herself, leave him and know he would die.            The fire she had fought to keep deep inside seemed to sense the presence of the man and heat rushed through her system. In a panic, and knowing her eyes were going to change, Sara tried to look away, but something kept her sight glued to the incredible man before her. Coming to her senses she finally managed to lower her gaze but not before the male’s eyes widened in surprise and then narrowed like he had found his own prey to hunt.

About the Author:
Christine Murphy started her writing career at a young age even before she was putting words to paper.  Living in the Midwest left her with plenty of time to read and develop her creative mind.  Her first short story was written in grade school and was in a fantasy-type style.  Later she took an online course in writing and created another story based on the adventures of a Native-American youth searching for her purpose in life and filled with lots of symbology.
Science-fiction fantasy was her main reading preference but quickly shifted to romance.  In the beginning she preferred Contemporary Romance but that didn't last long when she discovered Christine Feehan and JR Ward.  Paranormal Romance had infected her and she read as much of it as her voracious mind could adsorb.
Eventually Christine joined the work force, and although she continued to read, she didn't pursue her need to create her own worlds other than in her head.  Her imagination continued but reality kept her busy including a successful medical based career in the military.  Working as a clinical laboratory scientist she was stationed in several locations in the United States and in numerous areas of the world including England, Italy, Germany, Africa, and the Middle East.  Finally her career brought her to a small town outside the Tampa Bay area in Florida.  This is where she finally realized time is too short to put off those enjoyments in life especially when her husband was struck with leukemia.  He successfully recovered but it made her decide she wanted to pursue writing which seemed to be put off her whole life.
Within two years she had completed an entire series - The Sphinx Warriors Series, and started the first book of The Wild Clan Sagas.  Currently she continues to write from her Florida home while looking out her back lanai to a small pond where the wild-life gathers and the flowers bloom in exotic pinks and purples. This is her place of peace and freedom she has searched for all her life and where her husband and crazy African Gray Parrot, Raider, hang out with her.  It’s the place where her creativity runs wild while she spins tales of adventure and passion. She captures the unique characters, civilizations, conflict, passion, and love in her writing from the fantasies which still spin in her head.  She captures the strong, spirited, and powerfully attracted characters and all of their adventures and share it with others who are searching for that very thing to make their lives more exciting.
If she accomplishes nothing else in life, she hopes to share the romantically magical worlds and the lovers she sees with all of the passionate readers out there.  Her next projects are continuing to work on her Wild Clan Sagas and her Midnight Riders Series as she partners with KnightFall Publishing and CK Productions.

Lem grows to hate how the King hides Jules away, and longs to show him how to fly. His love for Jules also grows but it is forbidden, like so much in Jules' life.

When the Graithen attack again, though, everything changes.

Excerpt:
Lem was worried about the prince. Jules didn’t sleep. He didn’t eat. He didn’t do anything but lie in his bed. Lem knew how to defend Jules from outside threats. He did not know how to defend the prince from himself. The little prince was never cruel. He barely spoke, he barely moved. Lem had been told that Jules used to spend most of his time reading, staying in his suite with his bodyguard Mabon.Lem, of course, knew Mabon—all the bodyguards knew each other by sight—but not very well. The strong dragon had been older and had had more training than Lem currently did when he’d been called to the prince’s side almost two hundred years ago.Lem knew they were very big wings indeed that he had to fill. He also knew, without question, that the blame would fall upon him should Jules die. And rightly so. He was the prince’s protector. He just wasn’t sure how he could protect Jules from himself, for surely that was what the danger was at this time. It made Lem think. What would Mabon have done? There was a private courtyard off of Jules’ rooms, meant solely for the prince’s pleasure. Lem knew that no one else was allowed back there, not even gardeners. The area was completely cut off from the rest of the castle by high, windowless walls, and the only entrance was through the door in Jules’ quarters. Perhaps a little air, a change of scenery would be good. Decided, Lem went to Jules, the prince still curled up in his nest as he had been earlier this morning. And yesterday, and the day before that, and the week before that, since Lem had been here.“Your Highness, let’s go out to the courtyard. I can hear the fountain, but have never seen it.”Jules looked at him for a moment, the green eyes beautiful, if so sad. One slender hand waved as if to say, “go.”Grunting, Lem girded his loins against his own training, which said he didn’t do this, that he was never to touch the prince if he could avoid it. He bent, picking Jules right up out of his nest.“What?” Jules sputtered.Dragons needed sustenance, sunlight. They needed it. Lem clung to that thought and stayed the course.“We are going to the courtyard.” He didn’t put Jules down. The prince would probably curl back up in his nest, or possibly find a nook or cranny to hide in, and Lem was not having that. He was taking his prince into the sunlight, even if it meant he was disobeying his prince’s wishes. His job was to protect and defend. When Lem pushed through the door into the courtyard, he gasped as the sunshine touched his skin. It had been days. Days. He could feel it, energizing him, warming him. He had been so busy worrying about the prince, he’d forgotten his own need for the warm touch. He wanted to close his eyes and bask, but he didn’t. As private as this space was, that didn’t mean impenetrable. There was still the air, and he was no longer guarding the door from Jules’ quarters. So he kept his eyes open, stayed aware, and walked toward the lovely fountain that had pride of place in the center of the surprisingly roomy courtyard.“Can you feel the sunshine in your bones?” he asked even though he knew Jules could, the dull sheen on Jules’ skin already beginning to warm, to take on a hint of vitality. It was obvious to Lem that he had done the right thing. Master Anselle had always told him to follow his gut. Worried as it had made him, he had. He sent a silent prayer of thanks and love to his teacher. Every lesson, no matter how strange or hard or simple, was proving to be useful in the guardianship of his charge.Prince Jules lifted his face to the sun, the motion simple, instinctual. It gave Lem his first real look at the prince’s face.Unlike the thickset, heavy dragons that made up Lem’s caste, Jules had the delicate, gentle features of the ruling class. Perhaps the most beautiful features Lem had ever seen. The sadness in them did not dim Jules’ beauty in the least.Lem let himself memorize the fine cheekbones, the long, slender nose. He imagined Jules’ dragon would be quite small, but perfectly formed. He’d never seen a royal in dragon form, but had heard that their scales were impossibly beautiful.Moving to the fountain, he took in the form of the tree that was in the center of it, water pouring from its boughs. Such wonderful magic!“My mother formed this for me.” Words, actual words, offered freely. This was indeed a magical spot.“It’s beautiful. Is the water healing?” Lem asked as he sat on the bench that wound its way around the fountain.
Jules nodded. “But it cannot heal me.”

Book Description:
At 24 years old, Holly Scallenger has the perfect life. Everything a girl could want; a beautiful man, a stunning home, as well as being in the midst of preparing for the wedding of her dreams. This all vanishes the night she catches her fiancé, Brandon Morgan, in bed with her worst nightmare, Donna Sinclair, just a week before Holly is set to walk down the aisle.
Attempting to recover from his betrayal, Holly swears off the affections of men in order to pick up the pieces of her crumbling life. Unfortunately, meeting Jake 'Hooligan' Peters is not part of her plan. The tall, dark-haired and handsome as hell med student, sweeps Holly away from the pain of her past and reveals to her the bright future that lays ahead. That is, until she falls pregnant just as Jake begins his internship at P and E; his family's hospital.
Will this love at first sight lead her to the fairytale she has always craved? Or, will she fall victim to a betrayal of the heart yet again?
Excerpt One
Holly climbed out of the plush chair and gingerly walked across the soft carpet. Grasping the metal handle, she opened the closet door with a flourish and pulled out the suitcase. Flapping it open, she began arranging all her clothes haphazardly. Lucky for her, it was a big suitcase. When she’d bought it, she knew the size would come in handy one day; she just never thought that it would be used for this.Pausing in her frantic packing, she fell back onto the white carpet, letting her hair swirl around her, reflecting the tornado of emotions swirling inside her. How could he have done this to her? They’d had so many dreams. They could have been such a great couple, if he would have just kept his dick in his pants. Heaven knew she loved Brandon, but she refused to marry Donna, too.Tears began streaming down her cheeks, leaving a hot path that burned into her very soul. She inhaled deeply, trying not to lose it as she pushed her hair back. She knew that as soon as his Audi pulled into the driveway, he was going to start with his begging again. Especially now; a week before the big day.She had to stand her ground. She owed it to herself, and deserved so much more than a two-timing whore! Yes, if women were called whores when they did it, men could be labeled in the same manner.
Suddenly, her phone began buzzing frantically. As she looked at the polished glass screen, a beautiful picture of him and her smiling greeted her. Damn... they looked so happy.
