Book Description:
How far would you go to save your own life? Would you kill the one you love?
I want you to put your hand over your heart. Press down against the skin, meld your fingers into the flesh, and listen to the beats. Can you hear how that one organ is keeping you alive? One pump. Two pumps. Three.
Alice White Cabot would consider you lucky. She can press down in that same exact spot and she would feel … nothing. She is under the curse of the Heartless, and on her nineteenth birthday she will have to rip out the heart of the one she loves or she herself will die.
Kallin Grimm is a regular nineteen-year-old guy from the Chicago suburbs. He’s completely normal, except for the strength he can’t explain. Not to mention, Kallin is in love with a girl that he has never met. The only means of communication between the two of them is through an enchanted journal. Whatever is written in one can be seen in the other. For the past year Allie and Kallin have shared their secrets and their souls, which is why Allie knows they can never be together. It is the only way to keep his heart safe.
Enter the dark world of curses, secrets, and a history as old as time. The novel opens on Allie’s eighteenth birthday. With one year left, she, along with her best friend Miles set off from California to find out more about the curse, her past, and to stay as far away from Kallin Grimm as she can. Their first lead is in Chicago. Maybe this curse is stronger than she thinks. Tick-Tick-Tick.
Who would you choose?

Prologue: “Happily Never After”
On Lighthouse Avenue, inside the house at the end of the street, lives a girl with no heart. This is not to say she is cold or unloving, but it is literal and true. If you peeked inside her pale skin, peeled back her veins and muscles, you would find a cavernous hole of sorts.   Her name is Alice White Cabot, and she is eighteen-years-old today.  A light turns on in the shed behind the Cabot house. Beyond the roses that line the aged rocks on the side wall of the large house, past the stepping stones, a few feet farther than the toad rot, gundly flax, and verbena flowers (I’m sure we will get to that later), and finally we reach a small wooden box. What served as a gardening shed, now is filled to the brim with papers, maps, pens, various supplies, two pictures, one knife, and the girl in question.  Allie sits at the window on a small black stool with the knife in her hand. Her dark hair and blue eyes are the only vivid colors in the otherwise grey shed. She is absentmindedly cutting her finger again and again. Three droplets of blood bead off of her fingertips and fall on to the white carpet. Not flinching, she stares out the window at the snow falling like feathers from the sky. Allie thinks she must have heard that somewhere, some time ago. When and where are lost to her.   It’s Christmas and almost time for dinner. She looks around the ancient space, with its empty flowerpots and cobwebs, and knows this is the last time she will be in this room that has given her solace for so many years. When her mother first died she hid under the desk in the corner and read every book she could find; mostly adventure stories, like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Robinson Crusoe. The ceiling leaked and mice occasionally set up house, but it was her special place.   The gash on her finger has closed and all that remains is dried blood crusted on the knife blade.  On top of the cluttered desk is a purple music box. She gets up from her seat and places the knife on a dilapidated shelf. She gingerly opens the golden latch. A ballerina springs to life, and a haunting song echoes throughout the four walls of her sanctuary.   She pulls out a note. On the front of the folded paper, the words Happy Birthday are scrawled in pretty script.  My darling Allie,  I wish more than anything I could have given this to you myself, but I know Gram will be there to do it for me. You must feel the time slipping away like I did. There is so much I want to say and so much that I, myself, don’t know how to explain. I cannot tell you what to do my love. Whatever you decide, no matter what, you are my sweet bean. I know you will choose to be better, to be good. You are so loved and that will never change.   -Mom  Her face is scrunched up, her nostrils flared and forehead taut, but she will not cry.  Allie grabs the knife again. She cradles it in both of her hands for several seconds before she takes the hilt and turns the blade towards her stomach, so close that the tip digs into her belly button.  Her breath mingles with dust in the unheated shed. Allie holds the knife like one would hold a brush or maybe a spoon—casually, yet calculated.  With no other thought she plunges the weapon into her stomach, causing blood to immediately pool onto her white sweater. She makes no sound, not even a whimper. Both eyes are popped open, wide and surprised, while her other expressions remain suppressed. As quickly as she put the blade in, she pulls it back out.  Allie drops the knife, and it clatters across the floor. She raises her hands and clutches them to her stomach, probing the area gently. 1 … 2 … 3 seconds pass.  “Damn it.”  She lifts her T-shirt revealing a smooth layer of skin, like the day she was born. The wound is gone; not so much as a scar to remind her of the pain.Today, Allie White Cabot does not feel like celebrating because in one year’s time, she has to rip out the heart of the one she loves, or she will die.  “Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!”  But, until then she is cursed to breathe and live and what she doesn’t want more than anything else, she is cursed to love and be loved.  The curse of the Heartless.  What do I know? I’m just the mirror who watched the curse come to life. I’m just a mirror who is trapped like the rest … destined to bend to the will of the curse or break under its power like so many before. This is not just her story, but it is his as well. Kallin Grimm, the boy who loves the girl. The boy who can save us all.  Allie walks over and snatches a map of Illinois from the clutter on the desk. There is a bold red circle around the city of Chicago.   “See you soon,” Allie says. She opens the door. A gush of cold air blows inside, causing the music box to slam closed. The melody stops abruptly. She wonders if that’s what it will sound like when she dies.   A snowflake lands on her lip and she licks it off. It will all be worth it. If she can keep him safe.

A Review of Day Shift by Charlaine Harris

Day Shift (Midnight, Texas, #2) Day Shift by Charlaine Harris
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Day Shift opens five months or so after Midnight Crossroad ended.

Everyone in this town has secrets, some people are in the know, but it seems no one knows the whole story about anyone...and that's why they like it there. Nobody asks too many questions.

Manfred Bernardo, one of the town's newest residents, is an internet famous psychic. He takes a business trip to meet with a client in Dallas and runs into Olivia, another town resident at the same hotel.

Manfred's client dies right in front of him and the couple he seen Olivia with end up dead in their room.

Soon he's embroiled in a murder mystery that puts him, and the town in the spotlight. The residents of Midnight are not happy about that. He turns to Olivia for help, and most of the town residents want to help, too. Anything to get the reporters and police away from their mysteries- like the new boy in town the Rev is taking care of.

Why is everyone worried about the upcoming full moon?

So much mystery. There's like a big question mark next to every character. You can't wait to get the full story on them. Each book, each chapter peels away another layer, revealing a new clue.

I love Charlaine Harris's quirky style and character oriented writing. This is a urban fantasy book but the paranormal undertones are very minimal, at least in the first book.

She lets us get a little deeper into the characters, who they are, what they are and what's going on in Midnight in Day Shift Book 2 of the Midnight, Texas Series.

We discover that this series is set in the same world as the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire series, which you kinda feel in the first book but it is never confirmed. Sookie's name is actually brought up in this book as well as Bon Temps, when a character you might recognize makes an appearance in Midnight. Fans will love that connection. But there's a second character from that series who also has connections to Midnight now. I'm not naming names because I don't want to spoil any one's aha moments :-)

I see a lot of people either love or hate this series. Not enough plot, no drama, not enough romance blah blah blah but if you like well drawn character driven stories that never reveal everything all at once you'll love this. Filled with mystery and curiosity you'll keep reading simply hoping to learn everything you possibly can about these people and the mystery of Midnight and why this band of misfits and outcasts were all drawn to this place.

Each book in the series reveals more (I'm on book 3 now and the revelations keep coming).

Writing with Music- Guest Blog by Khalid Uddin

Rise of the Red Harbingeris the first book of a fantasy series. That being said, most of its roots originated from ideas completely unrelated to the fantasy genre. My muse is…unorthodox, to say the least. Despite being a visual person, music has been what has given me the most inspiration to write, even before I started working on this novel.
I have a habit of listening to a song, or often times even just a lyric, and turning it into an idea with a completely different meaning, and in time it turns into a vivid scene in my head. Quite often, I’ll even play a song on repeat as I work on a chapter, just to make sure I don’t lose that visual or that set of emotions.
For example, the opening scene in Chapter One was inspired by Linkin Park’s Somewhere I Belong. I would even say that’s Baltaszar’s theme song, because it beautifully captures everything that I wanted that character to feel.
Sometimes, though, it’s not even about the words in the song, but the set of emotions that the music itself evokes. For instance, I definitely had Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Winter Palace on repeat for the hours it took me to write Chapter 24. The song is completely instrumental and represents perfectly what I wanted Desmond to feel throughout this chapter.
That isn’t to say that one specific type of music inspired me though. My musical taste is a broad spectrum to begin with, so it was easy for my muse to extend to all genres. I easily found inspiration in rock music, hip hop, country, dance, electronic, alternative, R&B, and even classical.
I think that eclectic mix helped me put so much emotion into this story, which made it that much more meaningful to write. It was fun, exciting, relaxing, and stressful to write, depending on the scene, because of everything I was channeling into it. One thing that I’ve challenged myself to do more since I began seriously writing has been to open myself up to different things, both in writing and in life. That includes music, literature, people, and experiences. I think since I’ve allowed myself to do that and seriously committed to it, it’s helped me to become a better writer by leaps and bounds.

Playlist (I actually have about 400 songs on my actual writing playlist for this book, but these songs are probably the ones I listened to the most while writing):
1.     Somewhere I Belong – Linkin Park2.     Sober – Tool3.     Here I Come – The Roots4.     Dangerous – David Guetta feat. Sam Martin5.     Set Fire to the Rain – Adele6.     Demons – Imagine Dragons7.     Don’t Fear the Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult8.     Estranged – Guns n Roses9.     A Line in the Sand – Linkin Park10.  Winter Palace – Trans Siberian Orchestra11.  More Human than Human – White Zombie12.  Juke Box Hero – Foreigner13.  Riders on the Storm – The Doors14.  Snake Charmer – Rage Against the Machine15.  Stand by Me – K.I. Theory16.  Drain You – Nirvana17.  Welcome Home – Coheed and Cambria

About the Author:
Khalid Uddin’s credits his creative beginnings to comic books, specifically “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “X-Men”. Throughout middle school and high school, his predominant hobby was drawing his favorite characters, original characters, and just about everything that was put in front of him. Once his college roommate introduced Khalid to Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time” book series (later completed by Brandon Sanderson), his imagination evolved. He had already been familiar with Tolkien’s vivid world, but Jordan’s was something new and far grander. Khalid saw the beginnings of his own fantasy world coming to life, thanks to these authors and to many of his own coming of age experiences.
When his head is not stuck in the fantasy world, Khalid spends his free time with his wife Jen and adorable one year-old daughter, Emme, who have both been incredibly generous with giving him time to write and finish his novel. He makes a living with literature, being a high school English teacher in New Jersey.

Free Book Blitz Dark Siren by Eden Ashley

Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

Nope. I started out wanting to be a veterinarian.

How long did it take to get your first book published?

It took about six years to finish my first book. I’d work on it for a while and then shelf it for months. That happened a couple of times. When I finally took the novel down and finished it, beta reader feedback encouraged me to scrap most of it—keeping only the basic framework of the story. So then, I started a rewrite that took almost another year to complete.

What were your goals as an author and have any of them come true?

My goal is to tell a good story that readers can keep coming back to. But I’m also a bit of a perfectionist, so I want my work to be as professional looking as possible.

What genres do you normally write in?

Paranormal Romance…I’m dabbling into New Adult Romance now as well.

Is there a genre you haven’t written in that one day you’d like to tackle?

One day, I think I’d like to attempt a straightforward contemporary romance without any paranormal or supernatural elements.

What was the craziest thing you’ve ever done when it came to a storyline in your book?

My male main characters tend to be pretty alpha and have violent tendencies/scenes. I’d never held a gun in my life, and felt like I needed to experience that so as to not be writing from a place of complete ignorance. Soooo…I found an adventurous friend and begged him to take me to the shooting range with all of his guns! He eventually agreed. Poor guy.

As far as Kali knows, she's just a seventeen-year-old kid coping with an insatiable hunger for the “spark” or energy of others, feeding on classmates to survive.
A unique artifact—one that may hold the key to returning Kali’s memories—is uncovered by the archaeology firm where she works part-time, sending Kali and Rhane on a dangerous journey that leads them to the Forbidden City, into the unforgiving Gobi, and into the ruins of Rhane’s ancient homeland. As they fight for survival, Kali begins to discover who she really is and the true power she possesses. But Rhane still harbors a secret that could destroy Kali…unless old enemies kill her first.

Excerpt:  The sound of her screams reached him as he neared the dorm. Pausing at the threshold, the man stepped inside. Death and the wind were at his back. Dozens of hollow-eyed students turned to observe his presence. Fear had twisted their youthful faces into horrific masks. A few of them wept. Others clung together as another scream echoed into the night. The man flinched. Then he steeled himself against all emotion. His kind was supposed to feel nothing. He made his way through the crowd, students eagerly shuffling aside to let him pass. It was as if somehow they sensed in him the power to end her suffering. When a young man dressed only in boxers and a lettered shirt stepped forward from a cluster of solemn dorm mates, the man stopped. He recognized the boy.“You are William. You are the one who called.” “Yes, sir,” the young man said while nodding. His eyes were wide and frightened as he pointed ahead to a closed door painted prison grey. “She’s in there, sir.”The man looked at the door, and then back at the boy. “Is she alone?” William’s shoulders slumped with embarrassment. “I tried to stay with her but…” his voice trailed, dropping to a hoarse whisper. “She looks bad, sir. She wouldn’t stop screaming for me to get out. I got scared. I’m sorry.”“It’s alright, son. You have done well.” The man laid a hand on the boy’s shoulder with an encouraging smile that reflected none of the sadness he felt. “She’s going to be okay.” But her cries were becoming more tormented by the second. He quickly continued down the hall to the grey door. Behind it, he found her all alone. Her thin, pale body was curled on a beaten sofa in the center of the room. She was drenched in sweat. Dark hair plastered against her face, framing a beautiful canvas contorted with anguish. He placed a hand gently on her forehead.  Her eyes fluttered open. “Daddy?”“I’m here, sweetheart. Everything is fine now.”Sobbing in relief even as another surge of agony ransacked her strength, she gritted her teeth. “It hurts.” Squeezing her hand, he spoke in a voice thick with regret. “I know. I’m sorry. Letting you come here was a mistake. I’ve waited too long.”She was lost in the pain and didn’t seem to hear him. “I see horrible things. I did horrible things. There was so much blood.”It hurt him terribly to see her in such distress. No matter what the others said, this girl had truly been his daughter. But right now, his love for her could not matter. He had a job to do. There were things he needed to know. There were questions he had to ask. “What do you see?”“Bodies, hundreds of bodies littering the ground…” The words broke off as she rolled with another wave of misery. “They’re burned…old and young, women and children.” She sobbed again. “I think I burned them.”“I’m going to give you something to stop the pain. It will help you sleep.”“Please hurry, Daddy. Make it stop.” Her body shuddered. “I can’t take any more of this.”She lifted her head, giving him a good look at her face. Surging veins had crept like black spiders from the corners of her eyes, transforming the surrounding skin into dark pools. She was deteriorating rapidly. If the process wasn’t slowed, the human form would soon be lost.

Guest Blog and Giveaway Demon Hunting with a Dixie Deb by Lexi George

Hello, my name is Lexi George, and I write Southern-fried paranormal romance. With me today is Grim, the demon hunter hero in Demon Hunting with a Dixie Deb.

Lexi: Hey, Grim. Whatupdoe?

Grim: I do not understand the question.

Lexi: Oops, sorry. I forget you’re a medieval dude. What is toward?

Grim:  I am Dalvahni. I hunt the djegrali through space and time. I am immortal. I know not hunger, heat, cold, or loneliness. I do not falter from my purpose.

Lexi: Alrighty, then. You’re a focused kinda guy. The dje-whats-a-doodles, they’re demons, right?

Grim: Of a certainty. The djegrali are amorphous creatures that seek physical sensation and pleasure. To that end, they possess hapless mortals, consuming them from within before moving to the next victim. It is my task to extract the demons from their mortal hosts and return them to The Pit, where they can wreak no harm. If they resist, I slay them.

Lexi: So, you’re like a bounty hunter?

Grim: The word ‘bounty’ implies recompense. The Dalvahni were created for the noble purpose of pursuing the enemy. We do not seek gain. Duty is our reward.

Lexi: Sounds grim. Grim, get it? Ha ha!

Grim: It is a jest, is it not? A play on words, as it were. Levity is not valued among the Dalvahni.

Lexi: Obviously not. O-k-a-a-y. Note to self: no sense of humor. What about love, friends, family?

Grim: The Dalvahni were created, not born of a woman. The Brotherhood is our family. Therein, we find camaraderie. As for “love,” that is a human emotion. The Dalvahni are unfettered by it.

Lexi: Whoa, you’ve never been in love?

Grim: No.

Lexi: What about . . . you know . . . boinky boinky boink?

Grim: Your words are strange to me. Give me but a moment to consult the Provider. (Silence as Grim consults a translator)

Grim: Ah, you refer to sexual congress. The Directive requires the Dalvahni to partake in regular and vigorous sessions in the House of Pleasure, wherein the thralls reside. Thralls are succubi that feed on emotion. The Dalvahni engage in coitus with a thrall, thereby emptying themselves of emotion. An emotionless warrior is an efficient warrior.

Lexi: Sort of like getting your oil changed and your tires rotated.

Grim: I do not take your meaning.

Lexi:  Never mind. Where does the job take you next?

Grim: The hunt takes me throughout the various dimensions. At the moment, I have tracked a demon to a place called Hannah. That is my next destination.

Lexi: I know Hannah! Sweet little town in south Alabama. Be sure and eat at the Sweet Shop Café. Miss Vi’s fried chicken will make you want to slap yo’ mama.

Grim: I do not have a mama. This you would know, had you listened.

Lexi: It’s an expression. Have fun in Hannah. Fingers crossed you meet a nice Southern girl and fall in love. Have an adventure or two.

Grim: I am Dalvahni. I hunt the djegrali through space and time—

Lexi: (Interrupts) Yeah, yeah, we get it. You’re a demon hunter. Go whack some demons with your sword.

(Grim leaves)

Lexi: Sweet mother of pearl, the guy’s easy on the eyes, but he really needs to loosen up. That’s it for our interview with a demon hunter. Thanks for stopping by.

But nothing can prepare her for the leather-clad, muscle-bound, golden-eyed sex god who rescues her. Who wears leather in May? That's just the first of many questions Sassy has when her savior reveals he's a demon hunter named Grim. Also: Why would a troop of fairies want to give her magical powers and rainbow hair? Why would a style-challenged beast called the Howling Hag want to hunt her down?
Most importantly, what's a nice debutante like Sassy doing in a place like this anyway? Besides feeling Grim . . .

Excerpt:
“Sugar,” Sassy murmured. She laid her head on Grim’s shoulder. “Fairies.”With a drowsy sigh, she relaxed against him and went to sleep.Grim stilled. A surge of lust hit him, hard and fierce. Sassy smelled delightful, a dizzying combination of summer roses and female. Curling tendrils of her hair lifted to caress his jaw, like flowers reaching for the sun.I am her sword and shield. The vow rose unbidden in his mind. Here and now I vow to protect her, from anyone or anything that threatens her.An admirable sentiment, I am sure, the Provider said, but hardly necessary. She leaves tomorrow, and you return to the hunt. That is good, is it not?Yes, of course.
Then why the hollow ache in his chest?
About the Author:
Lexi George writes snarky, Southern-fried paranormal romance for Kensington. Her debut novel, Demon Hunting in Dixie, was released in 2011, and a novella and two more demon hunter books followed. Demon Hunting in a Dive Bar, the third book in the series, was nominated for a RITA in 2014. The fourth book, Demon Hunting with a Dixie Deb, is due to be released May 24, 2016. Lexi enjoys reading and writing romance, but her first love is fantasy. A Meddle of Wizards is the story of Raine Stewart, a sheltered, sickly young woman who comes into her own when she’s transported to a magical world, discovers her burgeoning powers as an adept, and faces the evil wizard who killed her parents. Waiting For You by Melissa Kate

Hello my lovelies and Thank You so much to Fang-tastic Books for hosting me on your blog today.

My name is Melissa and my debut novel Waiting for You has just released. Eeeep! So exciting. It’s a dream that I never ever expected to come to fruition and I still pinch myself to bring me back to reality that this is actually happening. To me. A small town girl from Durban, sunny South Africa.
So here’s a few more nuggets that you may not know about me.
1.     What is your book about? The blurb reads: Audrey Kelly finds her way back home to Crystal Valley with her bruised pride and a shattered dangerous past mocking her rear view mirror. What she didn’t expect was to be face-to-face with Adam Parker, resident bad boy, sexy Navy SEAL and one of the reasons that Audrey ran all those years ago.
Audrey was the last person Adam had ever expected to see back in Crystal Valley. Over a decade ago, they shared a sizzling night together before he received the worst news of his life and he hasn’t seen her since…until she’d moved back unexpectedly. She was no longer the sweet innocent girl he once remembered, but Adam has his own problems without having to deal with Audrey’s ice princess recital, no matter how tempting the auburn haired seductress may be.Sparks begin to ignite between them but can they accept Audrey’s past when it threatens to engage them in a dangerous twist? Can they save each other from themselves and stop running once and for all?
2.     How much research do you do?That depends on the book but usually… a lot! With Waiting for You I had to research things like Parkinsons disease and BUD/S training. You can’t integrate a character when you have no idea what you are talking about.3.     Have you written any other novels in collaboration with other writers? Not yet! Anyone out there interested?4.     Why do you write?I just love the thrill of a new love story. I wrote my first (childlike) tale when I was fourteen and the writing has continued since then. I watch movies or music videos and get so disappointed with a cliff-hanger or a negative ending and I always think, “I could have done that so much better.” Who doesn’t love a happy ending?5.     Do you write full-time or part-time?Part time. I have a full time day job and trust me, come 5pm I don’t even want to look at a laptop.6.     Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?I try to set myself writing goals – 5000 words per day and for now, I only have Sundays to sit down and get the words on the page, the earlier the better. Some days, the juices flow and I can write close to 10000 words and other days I tend to spend more time on Youtube than my manuscript (Sorry Publisher!)7.     Where do your ideas come from?Where DON’T they come from? Music is a big influencer as well as music videos. Movies, particularly if the plot is all wrong. Mostly though they come to me in slumber. I oftentimes wake up with a fresh new book idea. I’m strange I know.8.     Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?I like to have a basic outline, I think that’s very important but I don’t write down each scene possibility. I let the characters tell their story, while still keeping in line with the bigger picture.9.     What is the hardest thing about writing?Dialogue. Thinking about the scene is easy. Getting the characters to talk to each other and have it sound natural and humorous is tough.Well that’s all for today!Thank you so much for your time darlings!

‘My apologies if Caliban hurt you,’ said the man. ‘It’s what he’s trained to do.’The men lowered their hoods. It was Phillipe and Stephan – two of Quentin’s Marksmen. They watched me with disgusted expressions as I forced myself to stand. My muscles felt like iron cords. ‘You’ve trained him to attack innocent people?’ I snarled, brushing myself off.‘Of course not,’ Phillipe sneered. ‘He’s trained to attack your kind.’My kind.I really hated that phrase.I examined my arm. The sleeve of my jacket was ripped, but there wasn’t a mark on my gray skin. My eyes widened. Not even a scratch. But it still hurt like crazy, and I rubbed my arm gingerly.‘It’s fortunate we weren’t out with the rest of the dogs,’ said Stephan with a cold smile. ‘Caliban here is relatively mild-tempered.’As if on cue, the dog’s muzzle flashed with sharp teeth. ‘Nicolas asked me to come,’ I said evenly.Stephan tilted his chin. ‘Yes, we know.’ I was about to get an escort, I realized.‘Come with us,’ Phillipe ordered.Stephan slid his bow from his shoulder and fitted an arrow to the string. ‘Caliban and I will follow behind. Just as a precaution, of course – in case you start getting any ideas in that ugly gray head of yours.’Quentin Marks’ welcoming committee was not something I’d anticipated. I gathered my bags, and Phillipe led our unpleasant little party across the Sutallee Bridge. I unconsciously slowed as we passed over the abandoned mine shaft where Josephine and I had taken refuge so long ago. There was a sharp poke in the middle of my back, right between my pent wings.‘Move it,’ Stephan said, jabbing me again. ‘We’re already late for lunch.’I fought the insanely strong desire to whirl around and shove the arrow down his throat. Instead, I bit my lip, tasting blood, and picked up my pace. We reached the iron fence that surrounded the Fairgrounds. Phillipe pulled out a ring of keys and opened the gate. I’d assumed everything would look as it had the last time I’d been within the walls of the Circe de Romany. But there were no tents or pavilions. No rides or decorations, either. Only trailers – along with several RVs, trucks, and buses – arranged in a tight circle, right in the middle of the property.Their configuration created a large open space in the center of the caravan. Tarps were arranged over tables and chairs. A fire pit had been built, and laundry hung from clotheslines spread between trailers. People bustled around the clearing, preparing for the approaching storm. Another peal of thunder echoed overhead. The clouds had thickened, and the sky looked ready to split apart at any moment.‘Hurry it up,’ said Stephan with another jab to my back. ‘I don’t intend to get wet.’ Lightning flashed. Women scurried to get the clothes off the lines while men anchored the tarps more securely in the ground. Phillipe led me to a small trailer and flung open the door.‘Get inside.’The howling wind was motivation enough – even without Stephan’s sharp arrow in my back – and I scampered up the steps. My nose instantly wrinkled at the unpleasant smell. Phillipe caught my look.‘The dog trailer,’ he said.‘Just be glad they’re out on patrol,’ said Stephan with a malicious laugh. ‘They’re quite territorial.’The Marksmen backed me into the stinky enclosure, weapons drawn. ‘We’ll come for you when Nicolas returns,’ said Phillipe. ‘Until then, welcome home.’
With that, he slammed the door, locking me inside.

Excerpt from Chapter Two
Xen Lyson’s fingers moved to the pulse point of the woman lying at his feet. Skata! He swore internally. He should have guessed she’d come back for her partner. He’d have to leave her. Take her. He jerked at the sudden possessiveness that demanded he acquire ownership. She’s yours. His hand moved to her hair as he pushed the strands back from her face. The pads of his fingers deliberately caressed her cheek. His nostrils flared when the scent of her exotic blood hit his nose. He examined her without delay. A large bump and cut graced the back of her skull. He lifted his fingers to his mouth and tasted her blood. Ambrosia danced over his tongue and warmth spread through every cell in his body. Dikia mou... she’s mine.
“Xen, we should move.” Kane Hart, his right hand man, brought him out of his strange musings and sudden infatuation. “Bring the truck. Get the clean team. Stack the demon bodies.” His brow creased in contemplation at what would be the best course of action for the female and her partner. Taking her would risk exposing her to his world. He looked over her body again. Take her. He wanted to give in and do as his mind bid. “Leave these two untouched.” As the leader of the Phi Athanatoi, an ancient specialist group of vampires and werewolves, he was sworn to protect humankind. Right now, leaving the woman and her wounded partner would be an act of protecting them from the Kakodiamones, the demons that walked amongst man. Bringing them into his world would only paint them as moving targets. He stood and sheathed his double-edged xiphos. His acute senses picked up the strong smell of demons. Before he could turn, one descended upon him, blade in hand. He braced himself. The impact was inescapable. Slamming into his back, the demon knocked him forward. “Vlaka!” Xen yelled.
He found his footing quickly, speed and skill on his side. Reaching for his sword, he readied himself for combat. The demon changed tactics when he saw Xen’s weapon. He stopped on the spot, trying to avoid his opponent’s blade. Xen sneered and bore his fangs at the demon. A threat—one other creatures would acknowledge as to who held the power. The demon stood expressionless. “Well, come and get me.” Xen coaxed. The demon didn’t move. Statues...thicker than Greek marble. Xen didn’t need an invitation. His blade hissed through the air, cutting through the demon’s neck and spinal cord, severing his existence. Blood splattered on the already sticky floor. The head thudded on the ground while the body teetered for a second before it too slumped to the concrete. Kane laid his boot into the beast. “Nice cut, Xen. The bastard didn’t have enough time to blink.”
The lykos let out a growl of satisfaction, but then his demeanor changed, his nostrils expanded at the scent of another demon headed in their direction. He turned in time and swung his double swords, severing the demon’s head, blood gushing over him. “Damn! I just bought this jacket.” He gave the headless body a kick to let out his frustration. The body flew through the air and landed with a thud when it hit the wall on their right. “Dumbass! When will you demons get it?”
Xen smirked. His friend excelled at the combination of lethal and loyal.
