Excerpt # 1
Spying the number of the correct apartment, Levi walked up the steps to press the doorbell. From inside, quick footsteps sounded out and the door swung open.“Hi.” Tanisha appeared, smiling red lips complimenting her fingernails perfectly. She wore a red and black baby doll dress in shiny vinyl with a matching red choker. The short-sleeved, red top clung to her lithe shoulders, dipping low in the front to reveal delectable cleavage and a very slender waistline. The black bottom portion appeared less clingy as it was ruffled and stopped mid-thigh. Yet the magnificence of the shapely hips hidden underneath remained obvious. Black vinyl stockings stretched down from the dress’ hem to show off toned, sexy legs. Five inch heels in red completed the outfit.Levi could only stare, mouth falling slightly open, mind drawing a blank, eyes almost not believing the provocative sight. A few seconds later, when reasoning finally kicked in, the only thought coming to mind summed up his shocked silence perfectly. He was so fucked.
About the Author:
Edgy and provocative in his writings, Thomas Briar strives to exalt the virtues of love and lust in every erotic story he creates. To date, he’s written a wide variety in the subgenres of New Adult, Contemporary, Historical, Interracial, and BDSM. He also takes great pride in the fact that he writes the type of erotic stories that twist and turn as the hero and heroine strive wholeheartedly to get exactly what they want from each other.
Which means most of his stories run on the hotter side of the erotica genre with his characters indulging in the type of sex that some would call adventurous. In fact, his descriptive writing style and graphic sex scenes will certainly evoke a reaction.
Hopefully, a positive one, but he’s making no promises. Not everyone likes to be made to feel as if they are present in the scene, surreptitiously watching the eroticism play out right before their very eyes. For, without a doubt, writing scorching hot sex scenes is Thomas’ absolute favorite thing about writing erotica.
Well, that, and making sure his characters end up living happily ever after.

A Gift List for Your Sixty-Something Mom Who’s Not Slowing Down One Bit by Aletta Thorne

THE GHOST OF HER EX is a paranormal romance with a strong mother/daughter subplot. The book’s populated by a cast of old baby boomers who are done with being respectable. They may be church employees, but there’s drinking, smoking, and cussing—and plenty of “fuckity fuck fuck!” So with the holidays fast approaching, here’s…
A Gift List for Your Sixty-Something Mom Who’s Not Slowing Down One Bit
1. If you’re the world-beater daughter of a baby-boomer mom (like Emily Rauch) who put her classical music career on hold to raise you, the least you can do is replace her Uggs. Yeah, they’re basic you-know-what but your mom’s house is haunted, girl, and ghosts do bring icy drafts along with them. Shop around online. As of this writing, Sak’s actually had a good price. Emily likes the plain old black short ones, but the tall ones with the buttons going up the side are actually rather fetching. There’s a blizzard coming!
2. Amazon had The Echo for a good price, so we bet you already bought her one. Okay, fine. But understand right now that the thing is going to puzzle her. She’ll figure out how to use it for music and then go back to her vinyl LP’s, worrying that Alexa is listening in on her. She may be. (But so are two ghosts!) Plus your mom likes classical music and Alexa’s not that big a fan of the stuff. So be ready for some issues. Have you ever asked Alexa if she gets lonely?
3. Just because she has a closet full of black velvet clothes, that doesn’t mean Mom’s a Goth and wants more of the stuff. Black velvet is what classical musicians wear when they’re not playing in churches and have to hide their fashion under vestments. Your mom actually likes the same Tasha Polizzi boho chic stuff that you do. Mom used to be a (gasp!) hippie. Yeah, the Polizzi stuff’s hella pricey. Country Outfitters has it online, but if you’re anywhere near the Berkshires in Massachusetts, it’s worth the drive to Great Barrington to hit the bargain basement at Tasha’s shop, TP Saddleblankets. Marshalls-like prices are the reward for showing up in person--and amazing clothes.
4. Your mother may prefer the classical organ music, but she is a member of her generation. She still loves Harry Nilsson, and mourns his death almost as much as she misses your dad. Nilsson Schmilsson has been available on vinyl again for a few years, and since your mom’s copy is all beat up from her putting it on every time her heart got broken, you might consider replacing it. Harry had a voice as good as anyone who ever stood on stage at the Met Opera, and this is a perfect record: witty, mostly Beatles-esque rock, with one ballad that’ll make you swoon—Harry’s big hit, “Without You.” Available at Discogs and Barnes and Noble. Or you could shop around for a vintage copy that’s in better shape than Mom’s.
5. Of course, there’s always chardonnay, your mom’s tipple of choice. Q Collection from California’s Russian River Valley is delicious. If you can get hold of it, she could certainly use a few bottles—or a whole case if that new project of yours took off as well as it sounds like it did. Not that she expects you to spend a ton of money…
BUT MOSTLY: Just show up. Bring some sushi with you. Mom likes sushi. And she misses you! Maybe she’ll tell you a ghost story or three…

Tagline: What happens when the ghost of your ex just can’t leave you alone?
Book Description:
Just because she’s sixty-three, cynical, and a church musician, Emily Rauch is hardly done with life—or love.
Now that she’s traded in her old barn of a place for a tiny house in the hills, Emily’s ready for a new start.
Throw in one enormous pipe organ, two ghosts, a pot dealer named Santa Claus, the reappearance of Emily’s bad-boy college squeeze, and a blizzard...what could possibly go wrong?
Amazon Excerpt:
“…You are a woman of … appetites, Em. You like to eat and drink and…”“…and fuck.” Emily shocked herself by saying that. Dropping an f-bomb when you were just randomly turning the air blue was one thing. But this was no fuckity-fuck-fuck. This meant actually doing the deed…But she hadn’t shocked Al. “Indeed. And fuck.” He nodded, his lips tight. “I left you in the lurch.”Emily sighed. “Yup. Yup. Guess you did. But we talked that stuff to death two decades ago. Shit, Al! It’s just … just … I don’t know what it is. Alexa, play Widor organ music.”“I don’t know any songs by Widor,” said Alexa.“Alexa, argh!” Emily made neck-choking gestures toward the black cylinder on her counter.“Bee-boop,” said Alexa. Her illuminated blue ring danced and turned itself off.“I know our lovely and talented daughter meant well with that thing,” said Al. “But The Echo sucks at classical music unless you get lucky. Works better just to ask for radio stations.”“You’re too good at that. Do you haunt many Echo owners?”“Just Gordon.” Al laughed ruefully. “That young fella of his bought an Alexa for him. Alexa, play WQXR.”“Playing WQXR.” Alexa provided them with the middle of Respighi’s “Ancient Airs and Dances.”“Not bad,” said Emily. “No static. It barely comes in up here on the FM. And they’re a public station now, so no more pre-need funeral ads, I guess. God, funerals!”“Yeah. That. I gather you had a spectacularly bad day…”“Do you get special ghost email about that or something? Ghost Facebook?”Al’s laugh, again, was rueful. “Hard to explain. It doesn’t work like that. I never really thought of you as a femme fatale, Em.”“I wasn’t the one who fatale-ed him! I honestly didn’t intend to have anything else to do with him! Or not much else, anyway. Look, I was being a sex-positive, independent woman caring for her own needs. He went home to his girlfriend, tried for a little more of the old slap and tickle … and crumped.”“And now you’re playing his funeral. And he came to the organ loft today to bother you.”Emily began to laugh, too—a bit too hard. There was nothing else left to do. “Oh, fuckity fuck!”“What?”Then there were tears in her eyes again. She laughed until she ran out of air. “I never even unblocked him on my phone. I never even friended him on … Facebook! It was supposed to be a nothing. A one-off. A…”“I sort of remember Brad. He was at the reception when you played in Brooklyn, right? Was he a good organist?”Emily wiped her eyes. “He was terrific. But loud and flashy—at least when we were kids. A show-off. I don’t think I’ve actually listened to him play since before I met you. He loved boat races as much as he loved music. Not to mention chasing women. I used to regard that as a challenge when I was in school: break the womanizing horn-dog’s heart and win the Battle of the Sexes. Ah, Al, we’re so nuts when we’re young.”Al took Emily’s hands. “‘Nuts’ is harsh. I think we’re young when we’re young. You know?”“I do know.”“Em, I’ll tell you this… Brad’s going to be … around. Womanizer or no, he probably liked you a lot more than you thought. I get that. Plus, he doesn’t know he’s dead, right?”“He seems a bit unclear about that. He’s got to know I’m practicing for his funeral. You never seemed unsure about being…”“Being dead. I had lots of warning. I was sick for a long time.”Emily nodded. “That sucked. You sure didn’t deserve it.”Al pecked her cheek with his usual hurried and dry kiss. “No one deserves it. Your friend clearly has unfinished business,” he said. And then he disappeared.

But she’s happiest in front of a glowing screen, giving voice to whatever it was that got her two cats all riled up at three AM. Her house is quite seriously haunted—even scared the ghost investigator who came to check it out! After all, she lives just across the Hudson River from Sleepy Hollow. After imposing a controversial quarantine, Adelstadt Mayoress Mirabel Fairfax finds herself in the crosshairs with vengeful highwaymen. When they target her family and the vital shipments her village desperately needs, she turns to witchcraft to restore order herself. But something is wrong: her magic becomes unreliable, and monstrous images torment her mind's eye.
When gruesome murders terrorize Adelstadt, she suspects the highwaymen have turned to the occult, allying with a demonic entity. A Goetia. The hallucinations become all-too-real, and Mirabel must rely on her cunning, wrath, and what few friends she has left if she hopes to rescue her valley, her beloved, and her mind.
Felix Fairfax does the best he can as the husband of a controversial mayoress witch, but his life is once again turned into a fight for survival when he’s kidnapped by the highwaymen. They force him to help investigate his wife’s hidden lair, where they become trapped with creatures of unspeakable horror. Whatever Mirabel had locked away hunts indiscriminately—it hunts him—and if it gets out, plagues and highwaymen won’t be Adelstadt’s problems any longer.

Excerpt: Mirabel’s boots clicked down a stone, spiral stairway, blowing past the half-melted candles lining the steps. The candles provided the only light, at times leaving her to fumble for footing on the disrepair of the steps. The descent into darkness went on longer than she’d ever recalled experiencing before. What a time for metaphysical nonsense. An echo of raspy, hollow screams chased her, reverberating within the stairwell, challenging her to keep up speed. She stumbled off the final steps, at last on the ground floor, and clawed her wild, deep red hair from her face. Archaic, religious candle racks illuminated the chamber. Nothing had changed down here. At least, not yet.She sped past rows of dilapidated tables and pews, reached a laboratory-style workbench, and threw her arms against a stack of journals, scattering the research. Upon snaring a specific handful of pages, she sprinted for the tower entrance.A bony tusk punched through a nearby wall, knocking candles from their altar. They struck silver offering plates on the floor, crashing like cymbals. Mirabel leaped back, one hand clutching her research against her body, the other gripping the handle of her rapier.Black, viscous slime poured from the hole around the horn, crept over the altar, and dripped onto the floor. Small, misshapen hands sprouted from the goop like blooming black-fingered flowers, grasping at the stone tiles. A reek like sweet, rotting fruit flooded the air.She closed her gaping mouth, turned away, and continued running down the hall. Her burned-orange cape fluttered and whipped, a nuisance, rescinding its value. The entire tower quaked, followed by more disembodied shrieking. A spiny, gray tentacle as thick as a branch smashed through the wall ahead in a deafening boom, lashing and twisting like an eel out of water. She drew her rapier and severed the tip with the sharpened, distal edge of her weapon. The piece of otherworldly flesh fell away, but several more tentacles punched through imperfections in the surrounding walls, blocking her path. Each unique arm contorted at varied rates, some more aggressive than others.Still holding her sword, she extended her arm and channeled magic through it with a rush of heat. Upon releasing her focus, the heat fled her body and flames burst in front of her, engulfing the tentacles and transforming them into crackling ash.Vertigo crashed over her in waves as penalty for her sudden, great expenditure of soul energy. With inhuman moans drifting on the air, she shook off her fatigue and proceeded to the iron double doors ahead, ramming her shoulder against them. They opened a crack, blasting her face with freezing air from outside. She pushed against the door, and it ground open, scraping through a layer of fresh snow. She slipped her thin frame through, dropped her research and rapier, and shoved the door closed.“Mayoress?”She spun and straightened her posture. “Under no circumstances is anyone to approach the tower.”Two guardsmen clad in vermillion red, double-breasted uniforms stood at the base of the tower steps, shoulders dusted with snow. They possessed several weapons: muskets with bayonets, sabers, and crossbow pistols. All useless.“Aye,” said the leading guard. “We thought we heard some rumbling from our post. Another quake?”She knelt, sheathing her rapier and collecting her papers. And then she saw the ooze. Not much, but strands of it slithered under the door. She backed away and marched down the steps.“Evacuate.”“Excuse me, Mayoress?”She stopped between the guards and faced the shift lead. “Evacuate. It’s a simple concept. Do it now.”“Evacuate what? Ironsnow?”“Yes, the entire hamlet. Get everyone to Adelstadt at once.” She looked past him at dozens of wood-framed homes at the base of the tower’s hill, billowing smoke from their chimneys. “No one goes near the tower. Get everyone out now.”The other guard spoke. “But why? Minor quakes happen all the time. My family lives here.”The three marched down the hill. Mirabel said nothing.“Mayoress?”“Miasma. I’ve discovered the tower is the source of plague-infested miasma. Likely the cause of other outbreaks around Adelstadt. Deadly strains. None can reside here any longer. I’m sorry.”“Tordin’s mercy,” said the guard. “I’ll have my family pack right away.”“Nay. Full evacuation. Immediately. Have the citizens take only what they can carry on their way out.”“It’s that urgent?”“I am the Mayoress and a syndicate-certified disease specialist. You think I give this order lightly?”“Of course not, Mayoress Fairfax,” said the lead guard. “We’ll get everyone out within the hour.”
“Faster if you are able. Much faster.”

Interview - Circle of Flames by Jane S. Morrissey

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I love reading paranormal romance, exploring the mysterious and other worldly. At some point, I started to think - Hey, I could write this. I had to muster enough courage to sit down and try, and when I did, I realized it was a lot harder than I’d imagined. Even with the myriad of challenges it takes to put pen to paper, once I started writing, I found I thrived on the creative energy. I’m constantly amazed by the wandering of my mind as it leads me to the next part of the story and the complexity of the characters who emerge in the process. I see the story, and writing itself, as a continuous inspiration.
What inspired you to write this book?
Once I’d finished the first book in this series, Circle of Dreams , I knew I wasn’t done with this world. Darius, a secondary, elusive character in the first book emerged as the central character in Circle of Flames . I wanted to get to know him and why he was so complicated.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Circle of Flames is a story of two people from vastly different worlds, both with supernatural powers and complex interpersonal relationships. Darius is sent back to his homeland to investigate the disappearance of psychic children, opening the Pandora’s box of his past. He meets Emma, a lone traveler, whose elemental powers are isolating and mysterious to her. They are pulled deeper into a centuries-long, global conflict, while the balance of power on Earth hangs in the balance.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
In each book, there is one character who stands out more than the rest and that I enjoy writing, but throughout the series, I would have to say my favorite is Mack. He is a strong secondary character in Circle of Dreams and Circle of Flames . . . the 3rd and 4th books in this series will be coming out in 2019 – and Mack will finally have his own story told!
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
My characters definitely emerge as I’m writing. In order to map out the series, I’ve had to generally sketch out a more complete cast of characters, but I only really know who they are and what they look like when they pop into the story for the first time.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
This is tricky to discuss without giving too much away, but I’ll just say that it happens in the last third of the book and involves a secondary character who I am still getting to know. In this scene, she takes a critical step toward freedom.
Did you find anything really interesting while researching this or another book?I’ve always been drawn to the idea that there are sacred places in the world, centers of power grounding the energies of the planet. It was super fun to spend some time researching ley-lines, the sacred wonders of the world, and various other theories about Earth’s connection to alien planets. Several of these concepts are woven into the series.
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
In the world of the Quytel, there are seven Circles, each with a defined geographic territory. The Quytel have psychic abilities and have been tasked with maintaining the balance of psychic power on the planet. They are the arm of justice for all others with supernatural abilities, shapeshifters, elementals, mages, and others who are mostly hidden and marginalized in the backdrop of our normal world.
Born with psychic abilities and branded with genetic markers, those who are chosen and survive a deadly initiation become Quytel. Three Judges, three Seekers, seven Warriors, and a Commander make up a Quytel Circle. Seven Circles are bound to specific geographic territories on Earth. Through near immortality, powerful psychic abilities, and an unbreakable bond that ties them together, they are the servants of justice.

With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
While each story can certainly be read as a stand-alone, there are several arcs and many characters who appear across the series. The grounding Circle is the North American Circle so many of the characters from Circle of Dreams appear in subsequent books. There are two main arcs that run through the series: the Quytel’s long standing conflict with the Order of the Sennestia Cruterra, mages who are vying for power; and the unfolding mystery of the Vessels.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
Yes! And it’s scary. I find it creeps up on me slowly until I suddenly realize I’m not writing. I’m not sure how that happens, but once it does, I have to force myself back into a routine. I thrive with a routine. That means carving out time, and writing every day, even if it stinks… until it doesn’t.
What can readers expect next from you?
There is more to come in this series! Circle of the Pack and Circle of Time will be coming out in 2019 and the 5th book in the Quytel Series is coming together.

Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
For her safety and ours, Darius reminded himself.“Scotch?” Emma emerged from the kitchen with two tumblers half full of amber liquid. “I don’t know about you, but I could use a drink after the last couple of days.”She’d changed into a comfortable looking pair of cotton drawstring pants and a spaghetti-strap tank, leaving a tempting part of her flat belly revealed. Padding into the room on bare feet, her dark, silk-red hair brushed her jawline and fell to her shoulders. EXCERPT HOT SHOT by S. A. STOLINSKY
Tyler pushed his long, blond hair back with one hand and slouched. He knew she found him attractive. “I’ll tell ya,” he began, hoping to make it last, keep her interested. “I pretty much need the start up money right now.”Ah, too fast.“Start up money? Now? You think I got a stash under my bed upstairs?” Elsie pushed Tyler into an oversized easy chair covered with a brown mohair blanket. A black cat with white paws jumped off it as Tyler slammed down. “We should go up and find out. My, my we’re in a hurry aren’t we? Easy kid. When you’re hustling, you don’t wanta look too desperate, know what I mean? Take it slow. Move slow, kiss slow.”She took a grape from a bowl of them on the center console.“Well, you are good lookin’ I’ll give you that,” she said. “What’s that piece of paper you got there? Your birth certificate or something?”“No, ma’am,” Tyler gave her the certificate. “It tells everybody I’m HIV negative. Made this up on my computer.”Elsie’s head flew back, her mouth opened and a yell of hysteria came out of her mouth. She began drooling and wiping her chin with her arm. She finally calmed down enough to say, “Bullwhippie!”“Jeez,” Elsie said as she tore up the certificate and put it in a glass ashtray on the glass coffee table. “Nobody’s gonna think you got HIV, okay?”She sat back on the couch, her old, wrinkled face frozen in amusement and held the torn pieces of paper in her lap. “Let me explain something to you, kid. The only thing that makes a lot of money fast is ass.”“One point five million?” Tyler asked.“You’re good looking, but park your ego at the door. Nobody makes that kind of money first time out, even a guy as good lookin’ as you.”Elsie put her feet up on the foot stool and sat back with her hands folded in her lap, the pieces of paper falling around her.“Listen, baby. This is just between you and me, okay? I’ve been a madam longer than I can remember. I work on the sly now so when my parole officer comes around, but he don’t bother me anyway. You know why?” A still crestfallen Tyler looked at her. “Because I got the goods on all those assholes, that’s why. I got video. Don’t ever do porn without a video somewheres in the bedroom. Ya got me?” Tyler nodded. Elsie continued without noticing. “I’ll never tell where I hid the original but believe me I got plenty of copies. Got a friend does the best photography in the city. I had a couple of tapes made and almost sold ‘em to TV—the porn sites, of course. So, I been thinkin’ real hard about how I can re-establish my rep. And here you come.”Tyler finally opened his mouth but it was only to use his tongue to wet his lips, they felt parched and he was sure they would crack it he kept his mouth closed any longer.“Yes, Ma’am,” was all he could think to say.“I’m gonna start up the biggest whore house in the state, sonny. This time? With men. You know how much a good male hooker can make? Two thousand a night. Now---depending on your stamina…”“Yeah, I get the picture,” Tyler said.He wasn’t in to older women, but he had to admit, Elsie was beginning to look visibly younger with the excitement she was projecting. Some people love their work. Her gray roots were beginning to look more like silver blonde streaks and her smile was widening. For a few seconds he didn’t see her wrinkles across both cheeks. Her teeth, perfect in what were undoubtedly caps, glistened.“A male whorehouse. I don’t think it’s been done before,” Elsie repeated.Elsie was spry for a woman her age, but she had gotten fat over the years. She no longer looked like a professional, but that was probably the point. He picked up a small, silver framed picture which sat on an end table. It looked like an old studio shot of a glamorous woman, her head tilted back, full makeup and blond hair, her fingers just touching her chin and a large, pearl necklace around her neck and thick jeweled bracelets on her wrists. Tyler put it back.“A lifetime ago, sweetie,” Elsie said to him. “Women in their eighties still masturbate, you know that? And I figure that is such a shame when guys like you are running around just waiting to service us.”“Never really thought about it,” Tyler said.“You sure do look like your pa. He was a crafty one, but always good to my girls. You work out, huh? I got a boob job in my seventies. Hell, nothing stays up forever. They’re just starting to sag again now. Thinking about getting ‘em done again, so this is a good time we connected.”“Yes, Ma’am,” Tyler wasn’t sure where this was going, but he was pretty sure he didn’t want it to go much further.“Thirty percent on my end,” she said.“Huh?” Tyler realized his eyes had widened and tried to relax so he wouldn’t look so stupid.“Thirty percent.”“That’s a lot of money, Ma’am,” Tyler said, when the hole in his stomach shrunk slightly. “I mean I’m desperate, like you say, but that’s a big cut.”
“Listen, kid. A man looks like you, your age, your height, your…face, could make more than two thousand dollar

Excerpt:
For her safety and ours, Darius reminded himself.“Scotch?” Emma emerged from the kitchen with two tumblers half full of amber liquid. “I don’t know about you, but I could use a drink after the last couple of days.”She’d changed into a comfortable looking pair of cotton drawstring pants and a spaghetti-strap tank, leaving a tempting part of her flat belly revealed. Padding into the room on bare feet, her dark, silk-red hair brushed her jawline and fell to her shoulders. His cock hardened. He stood and crossed the narrow room, taking the glass she offered him. “Thank you.”“Cheers.” She raised her glass and sat on the loveseat, tucking her feet under her. “So what now?”“I should leave.” He didn’t move, feeling the weight of Sita’s vial in his pocket. He took a long drink of the scotch and savored the smoke on his tongue. “Will I see you again?” Those lapis-lazuli eyes met his. They reminded him of Egyptian jewels watching, waiting, her pale skin illuminated by the soft, yellow glow filling the room.
“I’d like that.” He chased the implication of his statement with another swallow of scotch burning his throat. Just because he wouldn’t ever see her again didn’t mean he wouldn’t want to. He was dead certain one night with her would do nothing to quench his hunger.
