In the seventeenth-century, an all-powerful witch called Rionach the Dark ruled the Celtic nations with an army of enslaved werewolves. In order to restore balance between Light and Dark, the Trinity of Light was summoned to vanquish the Dark Witch and end the Battle of the Dark Ages.
Seventeen-year-old Quinn Callaghan lives in the small, rustic town of Silver Mountain. Its location may be rural, but it is home to an ancient pine forest that surrounds a supernatural hotspot–a nexus of raw and powerful energy.
When a charismatic witch from Ireland, and a mysterious guy with a secret of his own are drawn to the area, Quinn finds out that she inherited her rare abilities from a revered ancestor. Could it be that she shares a bloodline with the Original Trinity? Nearly 300 years later, the Darkness is returning to Silver Mountain, and the Trinity must stop it. “Yeah, well, I’m not a hero.”
“Maybe there are no heroes.” Maybe we all just try to do the best we can and that’s enough, or it isn’t. Maybe we just complicate things by drawing a straight line and deciding that one half is black and the other is white. What if there wasn’t a line at all and life was just meant to be blurry?
About the Author:

Awakening the Trinity is Brittany’s second book, and she is currently working on the sequel with hopes of turning it into a trilogy. Writing has always been her greatest passion. She enjoys the outdoors and exploring new places in an endless quest to keep that artistic inspiration burning.

13 Influential Modern Vampires on Screen with Diedra Drake #vampires #vampsonscreen

13. Fright Night (1985 original)
Chris Sarandon as the sexy next door vampire, Jerry Dandrige, is obviously the start of a good movie, but what I love about this one so much is the way his interest in Amy (played by Amanda Bearse) is so much more about affection and less about bloodlust. Plus, Roddy McDowall always makes everything better.
12. Dark Shadows (2012)
This may seem like a surprise on my list, but I do love a good Johnny Depp movie, and his portrayal of Barnabas Collins is excellent. The story is very Tim Burton, in the way that it's romantic, tragic, and funny all at the same time. As with my other choices, I love Vampires you can care about, and I don't think anyone watches Dark Shadows without rooting for Barnabas!
11. Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009)
Another movie with some comedic elements, this story is a lot of fun and brings in a camaraderie among the unique and strange members of the Cirque du Freak. The Vampire Crepsley (John C. Reilly) is a very loveable Vampire, particularly when he's in the arms of his bearded lady (Salma Hayek). His mentorship of Steve (Josh Hutcherson) becomes very much like a father/son dynamic and is super endearing.
10. The Lost Boys (1987)
Sympathetic Vampires are my favorite, so I love the way Michael (played by Jason Patric) ends up turning into a Vampire and his little brother Sam (Corey Haim) tells him, "Just wait until I tell Mom!" Of course, he gets sweet on Star (Jami Gertz) and has a complicated friendship with David (Kiefer Sutherland) but I love the dynamic between the brothers and how much we care about Michael and Sam.
9. Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
Vampires may not be the big focus of this show, but where they play a role they are often complex. Simon (Alberto Rosende) is the best friend of the main character and gets turned into a Vampire early on. But my favorite Vampire in the series is actually Raphael (David Castro) who starts to fall for Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) and develops a deep and complicated relationship with her in which they both struggle to maintain a healthy perspective. The Warlock Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) also looks at Raphael like a son, and it makes for the perfect storm of relatable Vampire that I love.
8. Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
Such an epic masterpiece of a story, with an amazing cast, but what sends it over the top is the great love story between Count Dracula (Gary Oldman) and Mina (Winona Ryder). A love that crossed centuries, I can never help but hope for a different ending where they get their happily ever after.
7. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
I don't know if this will ruin my credibility, but I'm not a huge fan of Buffy as a slayer. Why? Because I love Vampires, and she lives in a world where they are often just going to meet the end of her stake. So, unsurprisingly, there are a couple of exceptions --- namely Angel and Spike! Vampires who fall in love with the person who is trained to kill them, what could be more sympathetic and adorable.
6. Dracula Untold (2014)
Oh this movie just turns my heart into a mess! The Vampire in this story is Vlad (Luke Evans) and he makes the great sacrifice of taking on the vampiric curse in order to save his people. The tragic ending rips you to pieces, but he's an absolutely loveable, self-sacrificing Vampire.
5. Interview with the Vampire (1994)
One of my favorite Vampire movies ever, this one brings in that emotional dynamic so strongly. While I agree with Lestat (Tom Cruise) that Louis (Brad Pitt) is always 'whining,' I also love their bromance. Or perhaps I should steal the phrase from Hannibal and call them 'murder husbands,' but there's also the very complicated love they have for their daughter. I also enjoy how Armand (Antonio Banderas) has an instant attraction and affection for Louis, and is almost able to tempt him away from Lestat. So much love, so much hate, it's a beautiful story.
4. Twilight (2008)
Love it or hate it, Twilight has made its mark upon the Vampire world. While I am a little bit of a fan, I think my favorite Twilight Vamp has to be Alice Cullen (Ashley Greene). Not only does she have an awesome precognitive ability, but she finds a way to be a good friend to both Bella & Edward, even when things aren't going well between those two. Not to mention, scenes with Alice often come with a bit of Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), and who doesn't love her Jasper love story!
3. Underworld (2003)
I love the Underworld series because it gets more complex and the mythos behind the Vampires and Werewolves gets increasingly intricate with each movie. Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is a wonderful Vampire who has a deep inner complexity. Of course, Lucian (Michael Sheen) makes one heck of a great werewolf, but that's a different list! Either way, I like the way the Vampires in this series are relatable and have a deep well of emotional involvement.
2. True Blood (2008)
I absolutely adore Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) and Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) as Vampires in this series. I even like Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) even though she doesn't exist in the books at all, because she's an emotionally confused young girl who is going through becoming a Vampire. But Eric, my heart for Eric, I could just watch his scenes on replay all day. When the super strong, powerful, ancient Viking Eric is crying his bloody eyes out over his sire wanting to end his life, it's impossible to not feel moved to tears. However, I feel like Stephen Moyer (Bill) and Anna Paquin (Sookie) ruined this series because they got married after meeting on-set, and then didn't want to follow the books in which she actually has a relationship with Eric that is far, far deeper than anything she has with Bill. Thankfully, Eric and Pam's wonderful interplay saves a lot of the story from going too badly.
1. The Originals (2013)
This one is number one of my list for the simple reason that the loving, sympathetic, relatable Vampire is everything that goes on in this show. These Vampires are not flat, mindless monsters. They're complex, individuals with deep affection and protective instincts toward those they love. Sometimes that love is destructive and painful, and other times it's intense and powerful. I won't deny being a HUGE fan of Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and I love the way that both he and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) are willing to do anything to protect those they love. This is something that I can definitely say I do try to bring into my book world. I love the relationship Klaus has with Marcel, complicated as it is, as well as his love for Camille. Elijah's mostly restrained love affair with Hayley (Phoebe) is both perfect and awful. But of all the relationships that are beautiful and terrible in this series, the one that melts my heart the most is the love between the two main brothers, Klaus and Elijah.

Amazon EXCERPT 1 (598 words)
Mitchell parked in the lot, careful to stay out of the immediate line of sight while Raymond filled up his tank.He replaced the pump nozzle before entering the store to get his chips and pay for the gas. Another car pulled up, and the driver also went inside. A few more minutes passed, and Mitchell started to grow concerned.Raymond didn’t normally dawdle, and there weren’t so many cars around that there should be a big line. Maybe the clerk was having problems with his register or…A shot rang out. Then another.Mitchell’s heart sank and fear surged through him as he nearly tore the door off getting out of the car. He was inside the store in a blink and took stock of the situation in seconds. Raymond lay on the floor bleeding from his side, the red pool growing quickly. The clerk's body hung slumped over the register counter, blood pouring out from his chest. The shooter’s eyes darted back and forth between the two victims, his breathing chaotic as he rubbed his fingers through his hair and pressed his palms to his temples. His eyes wide as he stared at the bodies and the blood. He didn't immediately realize anyone else was standing there. When he finally noticed Mitchell, it was but a moment before the shooter’s neck was broken and he collapsed next to where his gun had fallen.Mitchell dashed to the automotive aisle and returned with a pack of terry cloth rags and duct tape. He ripped open Raymond’s shirt, tore one of the cotton rags out of the bundle, and started mercilessly packing the wound. Raymond screamed in agony for a few seconds, then his body became limp as he lost consciousness.“Sorry Ray, it’s better this way," Mitchell mumbled as an apology. He put his fingers underneath the bleeding side of Raymond’s body and felt around looking for an exit wound. Sure enough, the bullet had gone entirely through. With one hand Mitchell shifted Raymond onto his side, then shoved another piece of rag into the exit wound. When he rolled him back over, he noticed the fabric on the front was completely saturated and blood was pouring out of the injury again.“Dammit. Something’s bleeding inside." He took a shaky breath. “Shit!”He wiped off as much blood as he could to dry the skin, folded a piece of cloth like a bandage, and duct taped it over the opening in his flesh. He repeated the process on the back.Mitchell looked around and realized he needed to lock down the scene. He stood and flipped the sign on the front entrance to 'Closed,' then hit the nearby light switches so the interior went dark.He returned to Raymond, lifted him effortlessly, and carefully carried him outside to where he’d left his vehicle in the parking lot. He managed to open the passenger door and put him in the seat, then reclined it back to keep his body at an angle. As he was about to close him in, he noted the seat belt. With a last-minute idea, Mitchell ripped it from the wall of the car and started sliding it under Raymond.Raymond regained consciousness for a moment, took one look at Mitchell, and began yelling in terror while pulling away.
Mitchell sighed as he realized his fangs had been out because of all the blood and stress. Another mistake. His superiors were going to kill him. He tightened the belt over the wound like a tourniquet, and the sudden pain made Raymond pass out again.

Spellbinding meditations on conjuring your own bliss.
Everyday Enchantments is a love letter to the magic of everyday life, the sweet moments and the profound that we often overlook in our hurry to get from one place to the next. What if we had the power to unplug from our daily hustle and bustle and conjure a more profound way of living rooted in natural mysticism? We do. All it takes is the whispered wish for more everyday enchantment breathed onto a dandelion head. This collection of essays reminds us to escape into the ordinary, find beauty in a simple cup of tea or rereading a beloved novel—and joyfully let our world turn upside down when synchronicity strikes in the form of wrong turns down forgotten lanes and unexpected midnight conversations with the moon.
This book is a study in what it means to live deliciously, joyfully, and magically. And it’s an invitation to conjure your own bliss—-because let’s face it: we could all use a little more magic in our lives.
Amazon Moon Books

Excerpt:
ENCHANTMENT: A spell wrapped in a noun. Three syllables. One state of being. To live with Enchantment is to see beyond the brick and mortar that make up your home and into the magic infused within its frame. It is made up of stories and dried bay leaves and dreams whispered into the heads of dandelions. Of bare feet on carpeted floors and the smell of burning sage. Crystals—amethyst, citrine, amazonite, smoky quartz—layers of your day-to-day and search for that elusive energy that winds its way up your spine and winding in and around your books; all the better to magnify their magic. It is to peel back the outward into your life. Let the snake at your base wriggle free of its coil to climb up to your shoulder blades and across your open back. There is no room for tightly stacked discs here, just the taste of joy when the sun licks your skin. You might find it at the bottom of an empty teacup. Your future written in soggy leaves, or in the whisper of trees, their leaves rustling and murmuring secrets only they can understand. Sometimes they are kind enough to translate for you—if you listen long enough. If you shower their roots with distilled love songs and feed them the black earth from your compost. It’s there, too, when you run your tongue along the grooves and ridges of a well-loved sentence. It’s everywhere. Even in the spaces you think have lost hope, like the junk drawer where you keep your faded dreams, stray screws, and half-forgotten heartbreaks along with wine corks and a few rubber bands. They’re not lost, just resting like seeds in the earth before they are ready to break open. That is the first syllable. The second is to learn from Enchantment, to listen to Coyote's call when he plays his tricks. Coyote loves his tricks. And you should too. What delicious messages wrapped in matted fur and a lolling tongue! All he wants is for you to take that leap of faith when only you can see the soft earth on the other side of the cliff. Don’t you know that you have wings? They are just rusty from disuse. Just listen to Coyote’s long-winded stories (he does so admire himself) and watch the flick of his tail. All he asks is for you to trust him, even if he can’t be trusted; his les- son is real, hard as onyx in your palm, ephemeral as the desert rain that you feel in your bones when all you see is a cloudless sky. No weatherman can ever map the storms and sunshine work- ing their way across your body.Coyote has no room for logic, just the reason in his unreason.Just those perfect coincidences set in motion by the padding of his paws. You are raw power, he says, a spark of the universe set in motion. And you must trust this power that is you, that is the earth, that is the beating of your heart. A rhythmic tattoo forever pounding out your path, however many times you try to stray from it. All Enchantment asks is that you absorb the wisdom of the moon and the stars, and the prophesying of the seeds burrowed deep in the dirt. Coyote is there to make sure you listen, even when the rest of the world prefers your ears stopped with cotton and your heart beating as slow as melting snow in winter. And the third syllable? To conjure. Here you weave your spell with vowels and consonants and beeswax candles. You seal them with pure starlight and a handful of chamomile. Then you burn away the dry brush and the brittle ideas that don’t hold up against the moonlight. There is no room here for literal…things or the people who think them. Not if you want to create. Not if you want to believe that the most important part of your everyday occurs in the moments others can too easily overlook. (Seldom can you find a person strong enough to brave the stillness or wade into the bottomless waters of imagination.) You make your life here, in the infinite potential of seconds and minutes and hours unfurling into vines and roots. Because when you are looking for everyday enchantment, it finds you. Always. And if you let it, it will settle inside your skin and feed your soul with dreams grown ripe under the sun’s caress. It drops you deep down into the rich earth and forgotten caves buried between heartbeats—places that many are too afraid to venture inside. For how can you absorb the marvelous, if you do not recognize it reflected in yourself, feel it settle in your bones like so much calcium? That's Enchantment. A three-syllable spell wrapped in a noun, planted in the earth and nourished with moon- light. Let the roots stretch to the underworld and the leaves unfurl toward the heavens. Walk across the star-kissed bridge made of hollyhock seeds and strong will. There is your passage into the unseen universe.

Reviews and Endorsements An insightful collection of short writings that make you look at the everyday in a whole new light. ~ Erin Elliot, The Sword of Lumina
To build everyday bridges between the magick and the mundane out of the long-sought and hard-won materials of will and wonder is the act of a true Priestess. In this book, DeBlassie offers rich glimpses of daily rituals, miniature spells in their own right that prompt the reader to look for the quiet divinity in their own lives, to see the subtle majesty in their day-to-day routines, and to question their perceived barriers between the modern and the mystical. ~ Danielle Dulsky, author of Woman Most Wild
Maria DeBlassie has crafted magic within the pages of her new book, Everyday Enchantments. Her eloquent words offer the ‘promise of soul replenishment’ as one traverses the journey of her -and their- metaphorical metamorphosis. Page after page, readers will experience the soothing balm of DeBlassie’s words as they encourage one to open her heart, her mind, her ear, her thoughts and her soul to the unique transpersonal book they hold in their hands. Just as DeBlassie mentions early on in Everyday Enchantments when writing of the unexpected delight of discovering a double yolk, her heartfelt writing is like ‘cradling…gold’ in one’s hands. Reading and absorbing the beauty of Maria DeBlassie’s Everyday Enchantments will have readers conjuring their own magical life. Her words will caress their soul and embrace their heart with inspiration and encouragement. Everyday Enchantments blends together poetic consciousness such as from Maya Angelou and Mary Oliver all while weaving in powerful and deep inner wisdom such as from Clarissa Pinkola Estes. Yet, Maria DeBlassie beautifully stands out given the uniqueness of Everyday Enchantments. It’s a must read and a must to be gently and lovingly held in a sacred place of honor in one’s personal library. DeBlassie’s Everyday Enchantments is like a heart song that every woman should feel. ~ Janelle Alex, Ph.D.,The Writer’s Shaman
Reading this enchanted collection is so much more than reading a book…it’s an unearthing of things half-remembered and bringing them into the light. Gorgeous and luminous…thank you, Maria, for unwinding this spell for your readers. ~ Laura Bickle, critically-acclaimed author of Nine of Stars, Bewitching Book Tours

Tagline: She’ll do anything to redeem her honor, including putting herself in enemy hands; he’ll do anything to stop her
Book Description:
Fearless.
Some have called me impulsive, and maybe I was, much to my own detriment … at seventeen.
A social pariah in my own nation after being found in a fatally compromising position, I tucked tail and ran to Earth for study, work, and to heal my wounded heart. It took seven years for the opportunity at redemption, to earn my way back home, but it means infiltrating dangerous enemy territory. If the Brausa catch me, I might wish for a quick death.
My goals? I have two of them. Save my childhood friend, our Sunan leader’s last surviving daughter, and, get away from Nick Dylant. His deathbed promise to my older brother has him bulldozing into my life, making demands regarding my safety. He’s even found a way to force a marriage using some obscure, arcane law of old in order to protect me, but if he thinks he can force his will on me, he can think again. There is no way he’s going to control who I am or what I do in this world.
I don’t need his or anyone’s permission to steal away in the middle of the night with a disguise, a rough map, and an even rougher plan of action, because one thing is for certain: I refuse to join with anyone who sees me as a duty, not when I’ve loved Nick since I was a child. Not when I dream about his kisses and crave his touch.

A lifetime resident of southern California, she spends time playing at the beach, camping in Joshua Tree National Park, and hiking Mammoth Mountain. Always a lover of adventure, she and her husband took their sons on a cross country road trip to Florida and back in an old VW Westfalia, that had no A/C, in the month of July, and still, it continues to be the best trip they ever took. Extensive travel and trying new things has kept the creative spark alive. Danube lives with her biggest fans, her loving husband, amazing and wonderful identical twin sons, and a teddy bear of a Rottweiler.

Interview- Riding Hard by J.L. Sheppard #BikerRomance #authorinterview

What inspired your story?
I got the idea of Riding Hard as I wrote the first in the Hell Ryders Series; however, I wrote two other books in the series before I decided to write Dodge’s story.
Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
I always wanted to be a writer, but as a kid, I figured I could teach and write. I’ve never taught though. In college, I studied journalism and went on to work at WTVJ, NBC Miami for a few years afterward.
How long did it take to get your first book published?
A year.
What genres do you normally write in?
Paranormal Romance and Erotic Romance.
What was the first book you ever published?
Demon King’s Desire, which is the first in the Elemental Sisters Series, is the first book I published. I went on to write the second, third, and fourth of that series: Burdened by Desire, Heavenly Desire, and Blooded Desire. The fourth hasn’t been published yet. I then wrote two others and published those, part of a spin-off to the Elemental Sisters Series, the Fated Immortals Series: Awaiting Fate and Fate Forgotten. In 2014, I began writing and publishing my erotic romance series, Hell Ryders MC: Running Wild, Running Hot, Riding Blind. The fourth, Riding Hard, is releasing August 19th, 2019.

Book Description:
Biker Dave "Dodge" Roth has never cared about his bad luck with women. He has other things to worry about—paying off debt his ex accumulated and most importantly, raising his three-year-old son, Cullen. When a new neighbor moves in, his boy makes it impossible to ignore her. Hard to miss, she's beautiful, smart, sexy, perfect.
After her last failed relationship, kindergarten teacher Alexa "Lex" Millen has decided to do without men. She's bought her first home in a small town in California and remodeled it to her liking. Naturally, she's managed to move across the street from the world's biggest jerk. His son's adorable, but he won't mind his own business. If only her engines didn't rev every time he came around.

He pulled up to her house, parked, and unbuckled his seat belt. “What’re you doing?”He turned to her. “Walking you to your door.”She lifted a brow. “You’re walking me to my door?” “Yeah. A man drops a woman off, he walks her to her door, makes sure she gets in, and locks the door behind her.” For some fucked reason, he was rewarded then, the kind of rewards that proved God remembered your name. To him, it happened a lot. Having Cullen was a reward every day. She laughed, loud, and he got to watch—her strawberry hair around her smiling face, sounding flawless, looking gorgeous. A beautiful laugh, another thing perfect about her. Even having no idea what she found amusing, he couldn’t help but chuckle. “You’re funny.” He wanted to ask what made her laugh. He wanted to tell her he liked he’d made her laugh. He didn’t share any of that. Instead, he climbed out of his SUV, walked her to her door, made sure she locked it, and headed back to work.

J.L. Sheppard was born and raised in South Florida where she still lives with her husband and sons.
As a child, her greatest aspiration was to become a writer. She read often, kept a journal, and wrote countless poems. She attended Florida International University and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors in Communications. During her senior year, she interned at NBC Miami, WTVJ. Following the internship, she was hired and worked in the News Department for three years.
It wasn’t until 2011 that she set her heart and mind into writing her first completed novel, Demon King’s Desire, which was first published in January 2013.

Excerpt:
Asteria was asleep and dreaming of the war when the first drop of blood touched the Earth. Her eyes opened for the first time in a millennia, as she felt the vibrations through the soil.Oberon’s blood. It has been shed. Her kin started to awaken too. They lay below her, her subjects, the ones who followed her in her bid to become Queen. Even Oberon’s loyal followers were entombed with her. He showed them no loyalty to them, choosing instead to seal them all away until only he remained.Selfish of you, brother, Asteria thought. She remembered that day on the battlefield, when she lay waste to all around her, smiting and cursing the humans because he preferred them to his own kind. She was majestic, riding forth on her winged horse, her red hair, the color of blood, flowing behind her as she rode. She was well named. She held the power of the sun within her and was determined to scorch the Earth, rid the world of the human vermin and make it fit for the Fae once more. She should have succeeded, but Oberon fought dirty. He knew he could never defeat her head on, so he used blood magic to open a sinkhole in the Earth. One by one, her brethren were sucked inside. As she stared her brother in the eyes, she asked him – why? She didn’t expect to see pain in them, but it was there all the same. She fought hard but the magic was too strong. She was sucked down into the ground, her body trapped by the layers of dirt. But Fae cannot be killed by being buried alive, no, they remained conscious, forever subdued, while the world above them carried on.But Asteria could still dream and she dreamed of the day she would escape and finish what she started. While she did not share her brother’s ability to see the future, she was able to see glimpses of the world above her. The humans grew in number at an alarming rate. They laid waste to the Earth, murdering each other over petty squabbles. At times she wondered if they would do her job for her, but no, they continued to flourish and breed.Oberon decided to mark the spot where they fell, placing huge stones above them, as grave markers. The stupid humans would flock to the site to marvel at the structure. If only they knew what lay beneath their feet. She wanted to reach out and grab them, to strip their flesh from their bones and swallow it whole.Today was one of the days they congregated here – the Solstice. Surprising that the fickle creatures remembered such sacred days. The Solstice was a rare time when she could feel the sun’s energy replenishing her.She longed to bask in its glow. It was so cold down here, so dark. That was when she felt it. Some primal part of her reaching out to something familiar in the world above. What was that? For a moment, a brief moment, she was connected to it. Oberon? He has returned. The connection broke as quickly as it came.Oberon never came here. Even with her ability to reach out into the world, she never once felt him. Saw him. Perhaps he changed his mind? Could he have decided that she was right all along? Then the blood dropped. Fresh, warm, it struck the dirt like the first drop of rain after a long drought. He is here. He is releasing us. No doubt he had seen what this world had become and decided to join her against the humans. All around her, the others were reacting to the blood too, eager to be free.Patience, my pets, she thought. It would take time for the blood to reach them, but when that first drop touched her, this Earth would face a reckoning. There would be no more mistakes, no more truces with the humans. They would be wiped out quickly, without warning. Most would be consumed and the rest? Well, she’d had plenty of time to think of suitable ways to torture them. This world would be hers. If Oberon wanted to join her, so be it. She could work with her brother despite all that he had done. They could slay the humans together, help restore the Earth to the way it once was, so it could heal and the magic could flow freely once more. And when it’s over, I’ll cut off his head and place him in a tomb of his own. Somewhere dark, cold, where he will be completely alone. When a Fae dies naturally, they enter the Summerlands, but she would ensure he never reached it. He didn’t deserve peace. She would trap his essence in a body that could not be used, for all eternity. The blood began to work its way down towards her.Come. Yes, free us, brother. It will be the last thing you do.
