This year, for some reason, seems as though the concept of Pride has exploded all over the world. It's getting more attention, support, and mainstream coverage than I've ever seen before. And that took years to happen. I never thought I'd see it happen in my lifetime. So this article about the history of LA Pride is an excellent read for anyone who's curious about the history.
But over a half-century, it has also helped chronicle the LGBTQ community in Southern California....

I have to admit that even though I've read so many gay classics, I'm not familiar with Maupin's work at all. So this is interesting to me, too. It's a piece about Maupin, and his life and work.
Maupin came out in 1974. Around the same time, he began writing Tales of the City, stories serialized in the San Francisco Chronicle revolving around a diverse group of friends living in the same San Francisco apartment building.
