Journaling 102
This is a tutorial of sorts. In this tutorial I would like you to embrace the concept of resists for paper. In a very broad sense a resist is anything that blocks or preserves an area in your painting. You could simply lay a piece of paper over your page and paint off the edge and call it a resist or you can explore the friskets and tapes available at your local art store. Getting to know what is available and how to use then is half the fun. I have created a video that shows the creation of ...

Quilting Arts-In Stitches!
There is a new eMag out there and I am part of it!
This is special. Super special and I think it will set a standard for what to expect in digital subscriptions in years to come (my humble opinion). This is a video magazine, with links to artist web sites, interactive popup prompts and tips and downloadable pdf projects. It think i is brilliant, and not just because I participated! You can see interviews of Jane LaFazio, Beryl Taylor and many others.
Read What Pokey has to say about it here...

Hot, hot, hot and a little humid too.
You may remember this little guy from posts far and away. Unfortunately, the plant from that post passed away. I took the arid desert approach to watering and it didn't fare well. This time I have come to a more enlightened plant like place, This Ponytail Palm will do much better and looks quite dashing in its new planter, don't you think?
The African Violet from last year has told me exactly how it would like to be treated and I have learned to listen. She blooms for the second time in my...

Wax Pot, Jack Pot!
Last month, when I went to PTown, I found these odd little mixtures of Tjaps and Wood Blocks. I snapped them up and customized them with handles for ease of use in the soy wax pot. Yesterday I was able to use them for the first time and here is an example of my first try. So far so good.
I will be teaching soy wax resist at Art Unraveled in Arizona and Create in Chicago in less than two months! I would love the chance to meet you!

Reconstructions
I have been quietly obsessed with clothing reconstruction. There was a slight outbreak of this same obsession last year at this time, after finding this tutorial on the web. But I was busy and didn't give it a concerted effort. This year I am trying pretty darned hard to get it right. Last year I cut corners, did a bad dye job and then the thing went flat.
This year, I have been trying to get it right. So here is how its been going. I acquire a man's shirt. I cut the collar off, cinch, pin...
