Sundays are for reflection.
I had an awesome time at OCCRWA yesterday with my brothers and sisters in Romance. It’s always so great to hang around with people who are in the trenches, writing books, pitching to agents, querying editors, and doing the dance of publishing. Writing can be an awfully solitary pursuit, though in point of fact, I always hoped […]

Breaking a mental log jam…
Sometimes I play a game with myself. I think about all the problems I’m having in a novel before I go to sleep. Maybe they’re logistical problems, such as how do I get character A from one city to the next within a certain time frame, and sometimes they’re existential problems, such as what does character […]

What does it say about me?
Eternal Optimist? Or idiot. I know that nothing will replace the dog I lost. I know this. (She was only sleeping in that picture. Not…you know.) It’s not like I think that if I get another dog he or she will fill the hole Pepper left behind. Yet our house is dog friendly. We have space inside […]

The Writer’s Police Academy
It WAS Awesome! I got to play with handcuffs and a thermal imaging device. I got to see a K-9 officer (Franz) and his handler in action. I watched a bank robbery and car chase, a couple of rescues, and some really interesting speakers talk about things that ordinarily don’t come up in polite conversation […]

More audiobooks to love
I’m back! I just got back from the Writer’s Police Academy, an exhausting three-day-weekend of smoke and handcuffs and excitement. I had to sleep all day yesterday and I still don’t feel recovered. There were classes and hands-on demonstrations and question-and-answer periods. I got to meet a number of public safety professionals from different agencies. I’ll write more about […]

I haz sadness.
We’re spreading straw on the street outside Chez Maxfield because our beloved Pepper, the Lab who has been a part of our lives for nearly fourteen years, is not doing well. (Euphemisms aren’t my strong suit.) This is the first time I’ve ever experienced this outside of fiction, and I’m feeling a little blue about it. […]

Release week sisters.
Crossing Borders, is a re-release, but I have two release week “sisters” whose brand new books I’ve been waiting for! I should probably reiterate my thoughts on reviews here: I don’t review books because I’m not qualified to review on literary merit in any thoughtful, scholarly way. My friends don’t often give me their books. I buy them […]

Only 6 days left! Rafflecopter giveaway…
STRIKE NOW! The Crossing Borders Rafflecopter giveaway has ONLY six days left to go. I’m not sure but I think I did a pretty piss poor job of setting it up. Usually, I have my sweetheart William, The Author Conqueror Assistant, set these things up for me because, as we all know, I am a typing monkey. […]

Fall in love again!
Tomorrow is the day! Get ready for the re-release of Crossing Borders. It’s been nearly ten years since I wrote that book. I was naive about the publishing industry. I was naive about people. I had no clue what I was doing. I had to get my daughter and her middle school friends to teach me how […]
