The Canal 2.0

Cue the trumpets. The Canal now has a new cover, via my digital publisher Diversion Books. The book will momentarily be off the shelves, but expect to see it return soon, after which The Canal will once again be available in various e-book flavors, along with the new cover and updated formatting (as for the paperback edition, it's currently in limbo, but will hopefully be back again soon too). Stay tuned!

Canal News: Sludge

Cleaning the Canal from Characters of Gowanus on Vimeo.

Updates on Brooklyn's Gowanus Canal, the real life inspiration behind my horror novel, The Canal.
The above video comes from website Characters of Gowanus and it features an interview with the E.P.A. that includes (drumroll) footage of the black sludge that rests at the bottom of the canal. Apparently the sludge is so toxic that it's capable of eating through the plastic containers they store it in...

The New Time Travelers

Since I've been writing about time travel lately, I've also been reading about it -- and in order to try and wrap my head around time travel's more technical aspects I recently picked up a copy of The New Time Travelers by David Toomey. The book lays out the science involved, as well as the theories behind that science. Theory being the operative word -- no one is actually expecting to go rocketing through the millennia anytime soon, although special relativity does give physicists some...

Canal News: The Cleanup Begins (Sort Of)

Updates on Brooklyn's Gowanus Canal, the real life inspiration behind my book, The Canal.

The E.P.A. recently announced that the Gowanus Canal has been designated a Superfund site. This means that the filthy, yet charming, waterway will soon be undergoing a massive and much-needed cleanup. According to The New York Times, "the agency estimates that the project will last 10 to 12 years and cost $300 million to $500 million." That's a lot of time and a lot of money, but then again, the...

Time Travel Trip: Part Three

Since I can't travel through time, I traveled to New Mexico instead - all to do research for my new time travel book. Here's how it went...

The Chino Mine is an open-pit copper mine outside of Silver City, New Mexico. As far as pits go, it's pretty large; it actually resembles a small valley more than a pit, making the surrounding hills -- which would otherwise be pretty tame -- seem like mountains.

What does an open-pit mine have to do with time travel? Not much. In the book there's a big ...
