"Lovers and Beloveds" chapter 6.5 is live

In which love grows:
Emmae kept her distance. When Warin served out fried salt pork and ash cakes, she wouldn't take the bowl from his hand; she made him set it on the hearthstones beside her little stool. He flushed and turned away. "Do you wish to leave now?" he said to the wall.

"Do you wish me to leave now?" she said.

He glanced down at her from where he sat in the room's only chair, her face so downturned he could only see the tip of her nose. If only she spoke Tremontine--how could he tell her all his regret, all his real remorse, if he had to say it in a language better suited for Eddinite philosophers and Sisters than lovers? Lovers--he had been alone far too long, if he already thought of her as his lover.

He faced the fire's warmth. "No, I wish you not to leave. But I swear on whatever God you choose, or all of them, that I will touch you not again."

She raised her head, eyes cautious. "And how shall I repay you, if not in that way?"

"A whore you are not," he said, his own vehemence surprising him. "Never. Never will I let that happen! You will help me in my work. I will teach you to speak Tremontine, and to earn your keep with honor." She nodded her agreement and gave him a tentative smile, and the chill around his heart began to lift.

Shipping update 1/13/11

Site News

I am staring at a box filled with 20 packages, most for international. I had to save up for the postage--that's going to be an expensive shipping bill. If you've bought a book and it hasn't arrived, it's now on its way (or will be tomorrow when I go to the PO).

What was really upsetting was that as I went through the store interface to round up the stragglers I found a bunch of orders that Paypal had screwed up on--paid for but never fully entered into the workflow! aaagh! Did I have enough books? YES--EXACTLY! phew.

I'm all caught up! Now the problem is, I'm out of books! I won't get more for two weeks.

But man, does it feel good to be looking at that pile of packages. That has been weighing on me. Big thanks to Velvet Ackbar for helping me fill out the customs forms and get everything signed and packed. Neil Gaiman should be so lucky to have a Velvet Ackbar. Eye-wink

Win a copy of "Like a Moonrise"

Odd Bits of Fiction

Do you like well-written fantasy smut? Sure, we all do!

Then you want a copy of the ebook Like a Moonrise, and I can make that happen for five of you, for free.

"Like a Moonrise" is a collection of six stories of shapeshifter erotica, including my story "Fears Moon Woman." There are tales of all sexualities here, from straight to GLBT, and all involving shapeshifters of some kind--not all the standard Lawrence Talbot wolfman, either.

"Scryer's Gulch" eipsode 40 is live

Duchess Soup:

The little dinner party was rapidly slipping from Charity's fingers, and they hadn't even sat down to the meal yet. The cook had spoilt the soup and had to make up a new one, the greenhorn--er, butler--was clumsy, and worse, that schoolteacher was monopolizing both John Runnels and Tony.

How could it be? Duniway looked like a blue-eyed crow in that black dress, while she was resplendent in feathers and plum-colored silk that set off the green of her eyes. She'd ordered the feathers all the way from San Francisco--what luck that they matched her new dress so well, even if they were shedding a bit. It was to be expected of ostrich.

And Jedediah was late. Damn him for not even bothering to show for a dinner he forced her to throw!

"Lovers and Beloveds" chapter 6.4 is live

In which Temmin struggles to remember who he is:
Temmin sat silent for some time. The smoke of the fire still lingered in his nose, Emmae's skin smooth on his fingertips. He shook the feeling from his hands, and sneezed. If only he could shake Warin's shame off as easily; it clung tight to him, guilt mixed with erotic satisfaction. "I am Temmin of Tremont, not Warin the woodsman," he said to himself, "and I have not just finished making passionate love to a beautiful woman I've discovered is enchanted to desire me whether she wants me or not. A stunning woman I found naked in a clearing outside my lonely hut. A woman I want to make love to over and over and can't stop thinking about... Jenks in his underwear, Jenks in his underwear..."

"Lovers and Beloveds" chapter 6.3 is live

In which Warin and Emmae get busy:
"I feel your wishing," she said in trembling Old Sairish. "I feel your wishing to touch me, to do--things--with me--I know not the words in this tongue! And I wish these touchings, too! How is this? You are a stranger!"

Warin brushed her tears away with his thumb, and then kissed her; she opened her mouth to him with a moan approaching a wail. Perhaps she was a gift; perhaps the Lovers had given her to him for consolation. He pressed her close at the thought. She neither fought nor protested, but only followed, never leading. "Will you come to bed with me?" he said. She whimpered, head down, and nodded. Warin frowned. "You do not have to. It is your choice." She nodded again, looking up at him through tears. He picked her up and carried her to his narrow bed, their clothes collecting in a heap beside it.

"Scryer's Gulch" episode 39 is live

Indigestion:
There were times Annabelle regretted having used schoolteacher as a cover. Would that there were enough women in town to have come as a dressmaker, or a milliner. If she'd been either of them, she wouldn't have to be at uncomfortable occasions such this one. She tried not to fidget on the horsehair sofa in the Bonhams' stuffy front parlor as they all waited on Jedediah Bonham's arrival to his own dinner party.

Charity had done herself and her household up a little too fine. A down-on-his-luck greenhorn in ill-fitting formalwear had been pressed into service as butler; he presented Annabelle with a glass of sherry she desperately wished were something stronger. Bourbon. She liked that now and again, but wouldn't get any until she went back home. She probably wouldn't need it then. Might she bolt down the sherry? Not here, no matter how tempting. John and Tony looked as if they wouldn't have minded a snort, either.

Scryer's Gulch delayed but coming

Site News

I'm a few hundred words into today's Scryer's update and I've just hit the wall. I'm so tired I can barely stay upright. No idea why. Just letting you know what's up. Should have the update live tomorrow.
