IHGK Book Two First Draft Preview

$10.00 [image error]

Wanna see how the sausage gets made, and help me pay some medical bills to boot? Get a sneak peak at how IHGK book two is shaping up with this limited chance to read the prologue and first chapter of the still-very-drafty first draft--about 8,800 words.

By buying this, you agree you will NOT reprint or share what I send you, nor will you write me and tell me it sucks. I already know it sucks. It's the first draft. BUT! It's the first draft of a book I know a lot of you really want to read, and sometimes it's fun to compare how something started out with how it ends up.

$10.00

A fundraising idea (updated)

Adventures in Self-Publishing

In my ongoing no-whine quest to fund my work, I've had a thought, a thought spurred on by some medical bills my insurance company decided not to cover and a toothache I really need fixed but can't afford. (Ad revenue has been really slow on both my sites the last couple of months.) So this is the idea I've come up with:

"Lovers and Beloveds" chapter 6.7

We meet Warin's brother:
Far away, a Prince of Tremont sat before a mirror in Tremont Keep, contemplating not his own reflection, but the scene in the cottage. "Warin finally grew careless," he said. "With a wench--who'd have thought my brother the hermit would risk a woman, with his birth prophecy. Wine, boy."

"Yes, Your Highness." A blond young man just out of boyhood rose gracefully, filled the Prince's cup and returned to sitting on his knees at his master's feet. He followed his master's gaze into the mirror; a sort of haze obscured the image. Gian hadn't seen the man in the reflection for ten years, when he himself had been a boy of seven; just before he exiled himself, Warin had come to Casalaria, the seat of the Duke of Valleysmouth and Gian's childhood home. At the time, the Heir's close resemblance to Gian's master had shocked him.

The brothers still looked alike, he thought, looking up at Hildin: dark hair, deep brown eyes, the angular planes of their faces. While Warin's face was soft, intent on his woman, Hildin's was hard. He had all the dominance Gian himself lacked, and he'd obeyed his cousin as soon as he'd come to think of anything at all; Hildin was his master in everything.

Chapter 6 Part 7 | Lovers and Beloveds | IHGK Book One

The wheel turned to Spring's Beginning. The shed filled with pelts, and the cupboard emptied, until there was nothing for it but a trip to the village: "We're out of supplies, love," said Warin. "And no, you can't come with me."

"Why not?" said Emmae. "Oh, please! I want to see what a village is like. I don't remember going to one."

"I can't trade and take care of you at the same time," he said. "In fact, I'm going to leave you for one night on your own to see how you do before I leave for an entire week."

"Scryer's Gulch" episode 41

A Challenge
Being late to an event always proved a good tactic, thought Jed. It gave matters a chance to solidify, for patterns to become evident. It served as a reminder of who was in charge. And it angered Charity no end. He chuckled to himself as the piston inside her brassy head compressed her fury down and down. There would be a big bang tonight, but not before their guests had retired--he had that much control over his wife. More than she reckoned he did. He'd let her explode upstairs, and he'd take her in hand as he always did. Let her use up all that anger in his bed, wear her out. Then he'd promise her a trip to Frisco or some such. Not till spring, though. He doled himself out some kind of roast beef from the tray the greenhorn presented.

Apparently he took too much. The greenhorn cleared his throat; to his left, Cherry widened her eyes and jerked her head toward the tray. He ignored them and took a bite out of both pieces. His wife deliberately turned her back and steamed a great cloud of charm in Tony's direction.

Vote for me at Preditors and Editors

Adventures in Self-Publishing

I'm nominated for Best Erotic Novel in the readers' poll at Preditors and Editors. I'd have rather been nominated under SF/F, but oh well! I'm nominated. Can you vote for me, please? Thanks!

"Lovers and Beloveds" chaper 6.6 is live

Warin and Emmae in love:
In this way, Winter's Beginning passed, and most of Winter's End, until one night not long before Pagg's Day. Warin's restlessness kept Emmae from sleep; he fairly shone in the dark with desire. Perhaps if he thought she slept he would finally doze off. She kept herself still, and made her breathing even, but still his thoughts caressed her, urgent and ghostly. His want swirled and pulsed through her, running in her veins, pounding in her heart, threatening to drown her.
