Getting Ready for Treacherous Toys
Before a book comes out there are countless things to do.
Besides writing the book and doing edits with agent and editors, there is promotion.
This can consist of blogs you write on other people's sites and your own, arranging bookstore and book club visits, getting advance reviews and talking to people about the book.
In my case, it also usually includes doing edits on a second book (in this case, A Haunting Dream, the next Missing Pieces Mystery), and finishing a new book.
The new book is the first Pie in the Sky mystery for Simon and Schuster. The working title is Dangerously Damson.
It is set in Durham, NC near the Duke University campus. It follows the exploits of Maggie Grady and her aunt who owns a pie shop.
The new book was done yesterday. YAY! The deadline is September first so it's all good.
This is a writer's life and I LOVE it!
Thanks for all your support!

Looking up for a moment
Being a writer is different from many other careers. You're busy, sometimes very busy, like other occupations.
The only difference is that none of it is real.
Oh, it's real enough to you. The setting. The characters. You work hard to make them real to you so they can be real to your readers.
But they aren't really there - except in your mind.
It's always amazing when you're in the middle of a book and the roof is leaking and needs repair.
Where did that come from? I didn't write that into the plot!
No, wait. That's the REAL roof in my REAL house!
A character has to take her dog to the vet and you realize your REAL dog needed to go last week.
It's not easy living in two or three worlds at one time. Sometimes it's hard to know which world is real.
