Captured by Love Quote – Spend time on your areas of alignment. Find the interests and subjects that the two of you share. Then spend time together discussing and sharing your knowledge, feelings, and insights. If you listen with love, you will learn a lot from each other, and this will build a deeper intimacy. Lee & Mary Ellis

3 Quick Points to Retain Your Character as an Honorable Leader
Whether were tuned into the evening news, cable channels, the local paper, or social media, the barrage of dis-honorable behavior can be overwhelming. It seems that everywhere we turn, deception, duplicity, and disrespect are coming at us like a tsunami.
Want to prepare yourself for these moments when youre tempted to cut corners or ignore someone on your team acting with dis-honorable behavior? Heres a three-point mantra for all of us:

Recognize the enemy is in us.Accountability starts when you recognize that every person is capable of dis-honorable behaviorthat includes you and me. Andrew Carnegie, the famous industrialist of the 19th century, put it this way, All honor’s wounds are self-inflicted.
Employ the carrot and the stick.
The carrot comes from our deepest desires, our strongest sources of energythe source of our purest motives. Clarify your values and deep desires and make them a part of your daily life.
You can also see how the drive to succeed in meeting these strong desires might get distorted and cause us to cut corners. Thats where the stick of courageous accountability must be in playthe awareness that someone is going to hold us accountable.
Admit mistakes and correct back quickly.
Certainly, there are things in my life that Im not proud ofdecisions and behaviors that I wish I could replay and do differently. We can use them to correct back on track. Early recognition allows us to make small correctionsbefore we get far out of position or way off course.
Choosing to Win the Battle
In the pursuit of honor there is no easy dayhuman nature can be weakand temptations never sleep. As H. Norman Schwarzkopf, General and Commander of Forces in the Persian Gulf War says, The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it.

FAQ on Applying Leadership Principles at Home
Leading with Honor FAQ How can accountability principles that you use for training be adapted into my personal life (family, wife, and children)?
Lees Answer Very much the same as described in my book, Engage with Honor. Human nature is the same. The one thing about home life is that we dont always have the power we think we do and therefore must lead more by influence and example. Thats a good thing I think.
Its just hard for some people who lead by command at work (people jump when they speak) to make adjustment at homewhere things need to be more collaborative. Of course, the collaborative approach generally works best for developing the next generation, both at home and at work.
Lee Ellis’ award-winning book, Engage with Honor, is mentioned in the answer above. Get your copy in the Leading with Honor Store or Amazon.com.

Leadership History Lesson for June 8th
On this day in leadership history in 1786 in New York City, commercially manufactured ice cream was advertised for the first time.
Whats the leadership lesson? Honorable leaders know how to mix business, fun, and enjoyment into their everyday work. Its a successful strategy that works every time.

Giving Back Recommendation – Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund
As a giving back option, please consider the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) during the summer months. Theyre a nonprofit organization authorized by the U.S. Congress in 1980 to build a national memorial dedicated to all who served with the U.S. armed forces in the Vietnam War and lead ongoing awareness of those who served out country in this regard.
