On This Day in Leadership History, September 24th
On this day in leadership history in 1952, American fast food restaurant chain “KFC” [Kentucky Fried Chicken] opens its first franchise in Salt Lake City, Utah. KFC was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders, an entrepreneur who began selling fried chicken from his roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky during the Great Depression. Sanders identified the potential of the restaurant franchising concept.
What’s the leadership lesson? If you’re doing great things in your work, find ways to expand and replicate it to help others!

Saturday Recap – 3 Tips to Break Meeting Room Tension
Take a breather this weekend, and take in this advice on “3 Fearless Tips to Break Meeting Room Tension” – let us know if you agree:
1. Be intentional to show respect and dignity for others.
From these opposite experiences of having bad leaders, Tom made a commitment to lead others by showing genuine respect and dignity. Having that type of commitment takes a lot of courage and inner confidence.
2. Establish clear expectations.
Next, he talked about the importance of having clear expectations, ground rules, responsibilities, and outcomes for meetings. It reduces fear and gives positive energy that increases productivity and problem-solving.
3. Communicate openly and often to collaborate.
Tom recommends this type of healthy communication to facilitate the kind of transparency needed to collaborate and work as a team. Individual goals impact team goals, which drive organizational success.

Leading with Honor Wisdom for Today, September 22, 2017
“I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it—but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

New Feedback on Lee Ellis and Leading with Honor
Leading with Honor is so grateful for comments like the ones below from a couple of recent clients—it’s an honor to serve:
“Lee Ellis has spoken for us on two different occasions and he’s terrific. He takes the time to understand the audience to whom he’s speaking and delivers an on-target message that is truly phenomenal. His storytelling ability coupled with his lessons on leadership make for a winning combination. I highly recommend Lee to anyone who is looking for an engaging speaker.”
– Dan Oswald, Chief Executive Officer, BLR (Business and Legal Resources)
“Lee was exceptional in his message and delivery to our Buckhead Rotary Club. He got two standing ovations at start and upon completion and this is quite rare for our club of 150+ Atlanta civic leaders…We would have Lee back to address our Buckhead Rotary and recommend him highly to other groups and corporate teams looking for a polished, battle tested and professional Leadership speaker and coach.”
– Tarby Bryant, Program Chair for Buckhead Rotary

3 Fearless Tips to Break Meeting Room Tension
My friend and colleague, Tom Crawford, highlighted three crucial steps for leaders who want to create a healthy work environment where people will look forward to meetings. Apply these 3 common-sense tips and let us know how much they make a difference in your leadership –
What kind of leader are you? Have you made it a habit to be intentional about valuing others and helping them feel important? Please share your comments and recommendations too – thank you

Updated Edition and Stockdale Leadership Insights
From our friends and colleagues, Taylor Baldwin Kiland and Peter Fretwell, the new updated paperback version of Lessons from the Hanoi Hilton: Six Characteristics of High-Performance Teams originally intended to focus their book on fighter pilot James Stockdale’s leadership style. But they found that his approach toward completing a mission was to assure that it could be accomplished without him.
Stockdale, they explain, had created a mission-centric organization, not a leader-centric organization. He understood that a truly sustainable culture must not be dependent on a single individual.

On This Day in Leadership History, September 17th
On this day in leadership history in 1978, Anwar Sadat, Menachem Begin and Jimmy Carter sign the Camp David Accords, frameworks for peace in the Middle East and between Egypt and Israel.
What’s the leadership lesson? What may be seemingly impossible can be possible! If the outcome is valuable enough, keep your passion and resilience intact until to achieve your goal.
