On This Day in Leadership History, November 11th

On this day in leadership history in 1940, the Jeep made its debut. Today, Jeep’s purpose and philosophy is rugged, off-road capability in all its vehicles.

What’s the leadership lesson? Whether it’s a personal core identity or your organization’s identity, keep your purpose and philosophy clear, consistent, and the strategic basis for all decisions that are made. It keeps honorable leaders on track.

The Number 1 Sign of High Intelligence

This is what the Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, looks for when he wants to know if someone is really smart. And notice the interesting comment about “strong opinions lightly held.” It takes a mature, confident leader to do this important trait—see if you agree

Leading with Honor Tip – 4 Core Identity Components

Quick Leading with Honor Tip – want to live and lead with honor from your core identity? There are four components that will guide you in this process everyday:

1. Your Spiritual Core is living your values and being faithful to your conscience, and your deepest intuitions.

2. Character is the outward evidence of your spiritual core. As legendary basketball coach John Wooden once said, “The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.”

3. Courage means leaning into the pain of your doubts and fears to do what you know is right even when it doesn’t feel safe or natural.

4. Commitment is the willingness to stay the course, to do your duty, to keep your promises to yourself and others. It means you’re responsible 24/7.

Do you agree? What has worked for you personally in the past? Please add your comments to this post – thank you

On This Day in Leadership History, November 4th

On this day in leadership history in 1984, Nicaragua held its first free elections in 56 years. Today though, there are still fighting a totalitarian regime for their ultimate political freedom. What’s the leadership lesson? Honorable leaders go first. Vote.

“Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.” – Abraham Lincoln
