Some times people go too far. . .

What was Chris Chase of USA Today thinking?

This weekend a "story" about quarterback Michael Vick appeared on the USA Today web site showing a picture the Philadelphia Eagle posted of him and his daughter at the table. In the picture, there is a Milk Bone box. Does this mean Vick has a dog?

A picture posted to Vick's Twitter account(Photo: Crossing Broad via @MikeVick)

OMG. The world has come to an end.

Unless somebody in Michael Vick's
house has an interesting palate, it appears the Philadelphia Eagles
quarterback is back in the dog-owning business.

Vick
posted a Twitter picture Thursday night of himself and his daughter
hard at work at the kitchen table. Dad was looking at game film on an
iPad. Daughter appears to be doing some homework. And sitting on the
table, in plain view, is a box of opened Milk-Bone dog biscuits. (It's
next to a pink folder with puppies on it.)

It's not hard to connect the dots from there.

The
picture was quickly deleted and replaced by a similar, biscuit-less
one, showing Vick has enough sense to realize his dog ownership is a
matter that's best left private (for now at least). Luckily, the good
folks at Crossing Broad caught the first tweet and saved the picture.
(We added the arrow.)

We all know about Vick's conviction for dog fighting. We also know that he couldn't own a dog while on probation.  But guess what, his probation is over. The law says he can own a dog. He also has young children, children who probably wanted a pet.

The vitriol comments on this non story story just went too far. Full disclosure, I made a comment on the story and the name calling went too far by others. Here's a sampling of what people had to say:

Jeanne Davis

His owning a dog would be like Casey Anthony having more kids...seriously?

Rex Maximilian ·
To
me, anyone who willfully harms a dog or animal in a cruel and torturous
manner is no better than a pedophile or murderer. There is something
seriously wrong with a person who can make a conscious decision to
willfully inflict pain and suffering on an animal for no other reason
than to satisfy their own bloodlust.

Now take that depraved behavior I've mentioned above and multiply it by 100! THAT is what Michael Vick did.

Our laws should be changed and he and his ilk should "never" be allowed
to own a pet again. It is "exactly" as others have mentioned. Sexual
offenders of children who've "paid" their debt to society still have
repercussions after they are released, like having to register as an
offender and make themselves known in neighborhoods. Severe and willful
abusers of animals should have similar restrictions upon their release.

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

-- Mahatma Gandhi

Michael Hornung ·
I hope the dog mauls him in his sleep, now that would be justice!!

Sharon Hodder

Unbelievable...that should have been worked into his probation.......NO dog ownership .....EVER!!!

Larkin Vonalt ·
He
never served a single day for animal cruelty. His sentence was entirely
for other crimes. So, no, he has not yet paid his debt to society. If
he had, fewer people would be howling for his neck, and he probably
wouldn't find it necessary to wear kevlar on the football field. Stop
being apologists for such a miserable excuse for a human being.

There was even a comment that compared Vick to the accused shooter of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman. Now that's when I had to tune out the comments. What Vick did was wrong, without a doubt. However, equating the life of a human being to a dog evokes racist feelings. Especially in the Martin case -- where an unarmed black teenager was shot and killed by a white and Hispanic man.

Do some of these commentators think a dog's life is more important than that of a black man?

Obviously.

Many people love dogs and say they're like family members. But dogs are not human.

I'm guessing the people who want Vick to continue to suffer for what he did don't eat meat, don't kill flies, ants or even roaches.

Be angry at Vick, continue to post your hate filled comments; but don't you DARE compare an innocence black child to a dog. That shows you're the idiot.

National Press!! Michelle Monkou recommends Recipe For Desire

I've been in USA Today once. I wrote a letter to the editor back in the 90s. And I held on to the paper until two years ago. (No, I'm not a hoarder!)

I'm in USA Today again and just like 15-year-old Cheris, I'm super excited! Michelle Monkou, author and USA Today Happy Ever After reporter reviewed Recipe For Desire.

Cheris Hodges' Recipe for Desire mixes
humor, romance and delicious-sounding foods to stir the romance book
appetite. This story of opposites attracting has a healthy dose of
clashes, making up, and falling head over heels in love. Bad-girl Marie
Charles goes down hard, but you can't count her out. She's a likable
character with much passion and spunk and dusts herself off to try
again. Meanwhile, Devon Harris is a master in the kitchen as a chef and a
master as a romantic hero who must conduct his own soul searching.

Recipe for Desire
chronicles two characters' journeys who are immersed in his and her
flaws and weaknesses, but emerge as a renewed spirit to fully enjoy
loving someone after learning to love themselves. Powerful message.

Book blurb from publishing Kensington Dafina:

A
Party Girl's Work Is Never Done . … At 27, Marie Charles is still
Charlotte's No. 1 party girl. But when she adds a DWI arrest and a
totaled Jaguar to her list of tabloid news-making escapades, her daddy
is done bailing her out. Sentenced to 500 hours of community service at
My Sister's Keeper, a homeless shelter for women, Marie won't have much
time left for partying …

Renowned chef and TV star Devon Harris
volunteers at My Sister's Keeper. And he's not happy Marie is joining
him. He may be single — and she may be gorgeous — but the last thing
he's interested in is a superficial Southern belle. But as Marie
outgrows the selfish girl she was, Devon is turned on by the woman she's
becoming …

Kudos, Hodges, for uplifting the romance genre with a full-bodied, sexy read.

CHARLOTTE

transformed into a literacy incubator for Charlotte.

The
free, open-the-public fair will be an all-day family-centered event, from 10
a.m.-5 p.m., at 400 South Summit Avenue.

With
the theme “The Joy and Benefits of Reading -- Embrace the Possibilities,” the

spoken-word artists, workshops, performances, food vendors, merchants and more.

for fostering imagination, innovation and creativity.

insight, career, dreams and vision,” said Mack Staton, a professor of English
at Johnson C. Smith University and chairman of the program committee for the
Charlotte Book Fair.

Social media fails

This week if we haven't learned anything, I hope we've learned that Facebook and Twitter will bring fools to their knees.

Two people have threatened the President's life on Twitter.

Dumb ass Donte Sims from Charlotte, who according to The Charlotte Observer, "apologized for threatening to kill the president both verbally and through a written apology."

Three more tweets over the next 12 minutes include Sims allegedly
saying he was going to aim a gun at Obama’s forehead and that he was
“plotting President Obama’s murder.”

According to an affadavit, federal investigators spoke with Sims
on Wednesday at his southeast Charlotte home, where he acknowledged that
was his Twitter account and he had indeed posted those messages.

An agent said Sims “smiled as I read the statements about him.
Sims stated that he published the statements because he hated President
Obama.”

Then Ohio teen, Alyssa Douglas tweeted last night: “Someone needs to assassinate Obama…like ASAP.”

But unlike Dumb ass Donte Sims, this little white girl is not in jail.; I digress however.

And over on Facebook, the new boyfriend saw a picture of his girlfriend on her ex's page. What did he do?

He reported that the other man had a bomb on a Dallas bound plane

A man angry about a
compromising Facebook photo of his girlfriend took revenge against the
ex-boyfriend who posted it, making a hoax call to police that set off a
terrorism scare and got the former beau taken off an airliner at
gunpoint, authorities say.

The new boyfriend,
Kenneth W. Smith Jr., was arrested Friday on charges of making a false
threat to Philadelphia police, who recalled a Dallas-bound flight and
marched the ex-beau, Christopher Shell, off the plane Thursday.

What happened to ordering pizzas and sending them to someone's house? Ordering magazines -- like Playgirl -- for a guy or pouring five pounds of sugar in someone's gas tank (too much?).

Everyone doesn't need a Twitter or Facebook account. These three Rhodes Scholars prove that.

PS: The new boyfriend went to jail too, he had a drug warrant in Texas. Smith might want to watch his back. Sims might not want to drop the soap and Douglas just needs her ass beat.

A tale of two threatening tweets. . .DNC

Not all young people support President Barack Obama.

And some of them are dumb enough to take to Twitter with death threats against the Commander in Chief. Now, for those of you who don't know, that's a federal crime. You're going to be convicted --the evidence is there, HELLO--and you will do all of your time. There is no federal parole.

Well, you'll do all of your time if you're a specific race--but I'll get to that in a minute.

A 21-year-old Charlotte man, Donte Jarmar Sims, is in custody after he tweeted about killing the president while the Democratic National Convention was taking place in Charlotte. What a genius.

The threats were done via Sims' Twitter account on Monday morning.

The first tweet was sent out at 10:06 a.m. on
Monday when Sims tweeted, "Well Ima Assassinate president Obama this
evening !... Gotta get this monkey off my chest while he's in town."

"Ima hit president Obama with that Lee Harvey Oswald swagg," he tweeted just two minutes later.

WBTV took at look at Sims' Twitter account,
which is still active, and saw that he sent out five threatening
messages within a 14-minute span.

"The Secret Service is gonna be defenseless once I aim the Assault Rifle at Barack's Forehead ... F* the #DNC," he continued.

Sims is being held at a federal detention center and has a hearing scheduled for next Tuesday.

Investigators say that Sims was interviewed by Secret Service agents at his home where he admitted that he hated the President.

WBTV has learned that Sims' tweets were discovered by a Secret Service intelligence specialist.

In the last of Sims' tweets about the
president, he said that he was "plotting president Obama's murder" and
that Obama "wont even make it to the coliseum."

Sims has been arrested in Mecklenburg County
at least four different times on charges related to drugs, window
tinting violation and other vehicle violations.

Sims is scheduled to appear in federal court on Tuesday morning.

I can only imagine what's happening to this fool, who according to the Huffington Post said he was high when he tweet the threats, while he's waiting to go to court next week. Federal prisoners really have nothing to lose. And I'm sure the federal jail is NOTHING like the Mecklenburg County Jail.

You'd think this would be the end of idiots on Twitter. BUT NO! A 16 year old from Ohio committed a very similar crime.

Alyssa Douglas tweeted last night: “Someone needs to assassinate Obama…like ASAP.”

But unlike Dumb ass Donte Sims, this little white girl is not in jail.

The Clinton Massie School District, where Douglas is a high school student, had a meeting with her and her parents.

The Secret Service is also investigating the threat, and the findings
will be reported to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Southern District of
Ohio.

Same crime, different results. But we're in post racial America. OK.
