HUBRIS – THE HUMAN TRAGEDY

Republished by Blog Post Promoter

Definition of hubris: exaggerated pride or self-confidence.

Human beings, with rare exceptions, do not confront their own mortal frailty.  Humans die. Only spirits are immortal. A human is an immortal spirit who temporarily animates a fragile body.  The tragedy of humans is their failure to be the spirit they really are.

The English language picked up both the concept of hubris and the term for that particular brand of cockiness from the ancient Greeks, who considered hubris a dangerous character flaw capable of provoking the wrath of the gods. In classical Greek tragedy, hubris was often a fatal shortcoming that brought about the fall of the tragic hero. Typically, overconfidence led the hero to attempt to overstep the boundaries of human limitations and assume a godlike status, and the gods inevitably humbled the offender with a sharp reminder of his or her mortality.

To the Greeks, hubris referred to extreme pride, especially pride and ambition so great that they offend the gods and lead to one’s downfall. Hubris was a character flaw often seen in the heroes of classical Greek tragedy, including Oedipus and Achilles. The familiar old saying “Pride goeth before a fall” is basically talking about hubris. —  Merriam-Webster Dictionary

ALIEN INTERVIEW

It is truly amazing to me to think that motion pictures did not exist on this planet until as recently as 120 years ago.  This is only about two life times!!!  When my Grandmother was a young woman, motion pictures were a “new thing”!  She lived on a farm in Michigan.  She raised 8 children.

They, along with a lot of other Americans, were farmers.  They grew their own food, and raised chickens, and had a milk cow.  They churned their own butter and plowed hard dirt fields to grown corn and vegetables to feed themselves.

Their wooden house did not have indoor plumbing.  They pumped water from a hand operated water pump in the front yard.  They carried buckets of water into the house and boiled it on a wood-burning stove for drinking, cooking, bathing and washing clothes!

There was no electricity.  The only source of light and energy were candles, a wood burning stove and a fireplace and kerosene lamps.

Their was no indoor bathroom.  They had a small, wooden “out-house” about 30 yards from the main house.  When you needed to take a pee during the night, you used a brass or porcelain bowl that was kept under the bed.  Or, if you were brave enough, you could walk through the snow to the out-house to take a shit in privacy and freeze your ass off!

No air conditioning.  All the doors and windows were left open during the summer.  In the winter time they sat directly in front of the wood-burning stove, or snuggled together underneath piles of blankets in bed as soon as the sun went down!

Times have certainly changed, technologically, at least in the USA. Do you ever wonder why and how so many technological innovations have been created during the past 120 years?  During the previous 10,000 years of human history there were nearly NO technical advancements!  Why have there been so many during the past 120 years?

Read the book ALIEN INTERVIEW.  You will find some answers in the pages of this book.

PAN – GOD OF THE WOODS

Republished by Blog Post Promoter

“When Zeus still ruled Olympus, the face of Mother Nature was puerile, the bright blue sea and sky shined brightly in Her eyes.  Life, abundantly renewed, abounded from Her virgin womb. The myriad creatures flourished, safe and suckling on Her verdant breasts while fishes filled the pristine waters of Her world.

In those primal days, gods of ancientSumeria,Egypt,Greece,China,India, and many other civilizations of Earth, commanded extraordinary power over men.  Spirits were conceived to permeate all matter and space in the ancient world. The gods, however, were not much different than each of us as spiritual beings, except to the degree they were immortal, that is, free from having to inhabit a body. Mortals were condemned to repeat the cycle of birth and death and rebirth into carnal form. Release of the spirits of men from the endless cycle of reincarnation remains the ultimate goal of many world religions to this day.

Gods actively intervened in the affairs of Mankind.  Some made their presence known in the form of an animal, as an aura of light or scent, or as an apparition in nature.  More often, the gods pervaded the body and mind of a man or woman, either in a dream or simply by taking over their thoughts to carry out their plans.

Since the gods were seen to cause events, both natural and supernatural, they were intimately personified, widely idolized, and artfully glorified by men.  Aristocracy, citizens and slaves alike, sought the blessing or advice of the gods regarding marriage, travel, war, purchases, planting, harvesting, building, birth and death.  Every village, district and nation had its own retinue of gods.  A discreet traveler was wise to observe the rites accorded to the local deities and religious tolerance was widespread.

A vast number of myths or stories about the exploits of the gods have passed down to us through the generations of Mankind from nearly every society of antiquity.  Culturally, we have inherited tremendous works of art, poetry, literature, and tradition derived from human interaction with the immortals.  The pagan cultural tradition, religious beliefs, and practices associated with the gods still permeate our language, social and religious customs today.

With the advent of the Christian church 2,000 years ago, communication with the pagan gods was very heavily suppressed in Western civilization.  Priests had a vested interest in eliminating religious competition, by any means required, including, but not limited to lying, stealing, cheating, murder, mayhem, extortion, torture and blackmail. This included outlawing all pagan religions and the destruction of all pagan temples and schools throughout theRoman Empireby the decree of Emperor Justinian in the third century AD. As a result, general public attention to the pagan gods disappeared.

Yet, the gods are active, living beings, who may only appear to have disappeared! If any of the ancient gods are still around in the 21st century, what are they doing now?  If they are here now — still watching, still powerful, still immortal — where or how might we contact them? “

HUMAN DEVOLUTION

Republished by Blog Post Promoter

Where did human beings, with their attributes of mind and consciousness, come from? Today the most common answer is a process of materialistic evolution. But not everyone is satisfied with that answer, including me. I am human devolutiontherefore proposing an alternative explanation, with roots in the ancient Vedic culture of India . Although I am proposing a Vedic alternative, I am aware that it is part of a larger family of spiritual alternatives, with roots in other religious systems, which I also honor and respect. First I wish to show there is a genuine need for an alternative. There is a lot of archeological evidence that contradicts the currently dominant explanation of human origins, and the current explanation has not been fully demonstrated, to the exclusion of alternatives, by genetics. So there is a genuine need for a new explanation. But before even asking the question, “Where did human beings come from?”, we should first ask the question, “What is a human being?”

Today, many researchers believe a human being is simply a combination of the ordinary material elements – but when we look at all the evidence, we see it is more reasonable to say that a human being is a combination not just of matter but also of a subtle (but nonetheless material) mind element and an irreducible element of nonmaterial consciousness. These elements must have some source, and this suggests that our cosmos has levels dominated by increasingly more subtle elements, ending with pure consciousness or spirit. Instead of evolving ‘up’ from matter, as most scientists now believe, consciousness devolves or comes ‘down’ from a level of pure consciousness, and becomes covered by the lower energies of mind and matter. This process I call devolution. But it is a process that can be reversed, through techniques of prayer, meditation, and yoga, by which consciousness can be restored to its original pure state. And this is the main purpose of human existence.

Michael A. Cremo has a Phd. (honoris causa) in science and theology. His work focuses on Vedic perspectives on human origins and antiquity. He has presented papers at meetings of the World Archeological Congress, European Association of Archeologists, and the International Congress for History of Science. He has twice presented papers in the bi-annual conference series Toward A Science of Consciousness. He has given invited lectures at the Royal Institution in London, the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia, and at other scientific institutions and universities around the world. Cremo is the principal author of the book Forbidden Archeology; a comprehensive survey of archeological evidence consistent with Vedic accounts of extreme human antiquity. The abridged popular edition of Forbidden Archeology, titled The Hidden History of the Human Race, has been translated into twenty languages. Cremo’s latest book is entitled Human Devolution: A Vedic Alternative to Darwin ‘s Theory. Cremo is particularly interested in examining the history of the archeology and anthropology from the standpoint of alternative worldviews, particularly worldviews with foundations in consciousness-based ancient Indian thought. He has been a member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness since 1974.
