THE LAMENT
“There will come a time when it will be seen that in vain have the Egyptians honored the divinity with a pious mind and with assiduous service. All their holy worship will become inefficacious. The Gods, leaving the earth will go back to heaven; they will abandon Egypt; this land, once the home of religion, will be widowed of its gods and left destitute.
Strangers will fill this country, and not only will there no longer be care for religious observances, but, yet a more painful thing, it will be laid down under so-called laws — under pain of punishments — that all must abstain from acts of piety or cult towards the gods. Then this Holy Land, the home of sanctuaries and temples, will be covered with tombs and the dead.
Oh, Egypt! Egypt, there will remain of the religion only fables, and thy children in later times will not believe them; nothing will survive save words engraved on stones to tell of thy pious deeds!
The Scythian, or the Indian, or some other such barbarous neighbor will establish himself in Egypt. For behold the divinity goes back up to heaven; and men, abandoned, all die, and then, without either god or man, Egypt will be nothing but a desert.
Why weep, O Asclepius? Egypt will be carried away to worse things than this; she will be polluted with graver crimes. She, hitherto most holy, who so much loved the gods, only country of Earth where the gods made their home in return for her devotion — she who taught men holiness and piety — will give example of the most atrocious cruelty.
In that hour, weary of life, men will no longer regard the world as (angel) worthy object of their admiration and reverence. This All, which is a good thing, the best that be seen in the past, the present, and the future, will be in danger of perishing, men will esteem it a burden; and thenceforth they will despise and no longer cherish this whole of the universe, incomparable work of God, glorious construction, good creation, made up of an infinite diversity of life forms, instrument of the will of God who, without envy, pours forth his favour on all his work, in which is assembled in one whole, in harmonious diversity, all that can be seen that is worthy of reverence, praise and love.
For darkness will be preferred to light; it will be thought better to die than to live; none will raise his eyes towards heaven; the pious man will be thought mad, the impious, wise; frenzied will be thought brave, the worst criminal a good man.
The soul and all the beliefs attached to it, according to which the soul is immortal by nature, or foresees that it can obtain immortality, as I have taught you — this will be laughed at and thought nonsense. And believe me, it will be considered a capital crime to give oneself to the religion of the mind. A new justice will be created and new laws. Nothing holy, nothing pious, nothing worthy of heaven and of the gods who dwell there, will be any more spoken of nor will find credence in the soul.
The gods will separate themselves from men, deplorable divorce. Only the evil angels will remain who will mingle with men, and constrain them by violence — miserable creatures — to all excesses of criminal audacity, engaging them in wars, brigandage, frauds, and in everything which contrary to the nature of the soul. Then the Earth will lose its equilibrium, the sea will be no longer navigable, the heaven will no longer be full of stars, the stars will stop their courses, and will be silent. The fruits of the Earth will molder, the soil will no longer be fertile, the air itself will grow thick with lugubrious torpor. Such will be the Old Age of the world: irreligion, disorder, confusion of all goods.
When all these things have come to pass, O Asclepius, then the Lord and Father, the god first in power and *demiurge of the One God, having considered these customs and voluntary crimes, endeavoring, by his will, which is the divine will, to bar the way to vices and universal corruption and to correct errors, he will annihilate all malice, either by effacing it in a deluge or by consuming it by fire, or destroying it by pestilential maladies diffused in many places. Then he will bring back the world to its first beauty, so that this world may again be worthy of reverence and admiration, and that God also, creator and restorer of so great a work, may be glorified by the men who shall live then in continual hymns of praise and benedictions. That is what the rebirth of the world will be; a renewal of all good things, a holy and most solemn restoration of Nature Herself.”

Dame Frances Amelia Yates (28 November 1899 – 29 September 1981) was an English historian who focused on the study of the Renaissance. In an academic capacity, she taught at the Warburg Institute of the University of London for many years, and also wrote a number of seminal books on the subject of esoteric history.
In 1964 she published Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition, an examination of the thought of Giordano Bruno which came to be seen as her most significant publication. In this book, she emphasized the role of Hermeticism in Bruno’s thought, and this the role that magic and mysticism played in Renaissance thinking. She wrote extensively on the occult or Neoplatonic philosophies of the Renaissance. Her books Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition (1964), The Art of Memory (1966), and The Rosicrucian Enlightenment (1972) are major works. — (Wikipedia.org)

ETERNAL
The Tao is infinite, eternal. Why is it eternal? It was never born: thus it can never die. Why is it infinite? It has no desire for itself; thus it is present for all beings.

YOU ARE YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND
“You have always been with yourself, and by yourself, for nearly all of eternity. You are your own best friend. Enjoy yourself.
However, if you want some companionship, go out a find another spirit, a person, or a life form and befriend them. They will probably appreciate not being alone.”

Stranger in a Strange Land is a 1961 satirical science fiction novel by American author Robert A. Heinlein. It tells the story of Valentine Michael Smith, a human who comes to Earth in early adulthood after being born on the planet Mars and raised by Martians. The novel explores his interaction with—and eventual transformation of—terrestrial culture. The title is an allusion to the phrase in Exodus 2:22. According to Heinlein, the novel’s working title was The Heretic. Several later editions of the book have promoted it as “The most famous Science Fiction Novel ever written”. Heinlein got the idea for the novel when he and his wife had some brainstorming one evening in 1948, and she suggested a new version of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, where a human child is raised by Martians instead of wolves. He decided to go further with the idea, and worked on the story on and off for more than a decade before it was complete. In 1962, this version received the Hugo Award for Best Novel. The book was a success from the start. Eventually Stranger in a Strange Land became a cult classic.

OBSERVER
GOD IS A GIRL
“The primary difference between IS-BEs of The Domain and those of the physical universe is the condition known as “games”. In The Domain it has long been observed that in order for each individual IS-BE to remain free from intrusion or tyranny imposed on them by more powerful, or less ethical IS-BEs, (Immortal Spiritual Beings) we must cooperate to defend and nurture each other. A principle of benevolent mutual respect for all IS-BEs, and the universes they create / occupy, is referred to as “All-Mother”.
“All-Mother” is a philosophy in which the behavior or conduct of an individual and groups of IS-BEs is adjudicated based on the logical premise that in order to sustain optimum freedom, order and serenity for all IS-BEs, each IS-BE must serve all IS-BEs.
This premise is not intended to eliminate disagreements between IS-BEs, but to mitigate destruction or chaotic behavior between them.
“All-Mother” assures the inherent right of an individual IS-BE to approach, depart from, or not interact, with other IS-BEs while maintaining an optimum serenity.
The purpose of The Domain is to defend the right of an individual or group of IS-BEs to create a universe, or not, at their own discretion.
It has been observed that when responsibility for maintaining organization within the co-created universe shared by all IS-BEs is not defended and preserved, each individual IS-BE is deprived of the freedom assured by the power of a collaborative, creative will and combined power.
The Omniscient and Omnipotent Matriarch (abbrev: Omnimat) is an IS-BE who acts as magistrate of The Domain.
Through preeminent power, wisdom and benevolence, Omnimat supervises and enforces the principle of All-Mother within The Domain.
Omnimat does not create, destroy or alter universes.
Omnimat may, or may not, enforce penalties or restrictions upon IS-BEs when violations of the principle of All-Mother occur within The Domain.
The discretion and judgment of Omnimat are inviolate.
Omnimat enforces all judgments.
To the degree that IS-BEs of The Domain do not need or desire admiration, and are not compelled to “play” a game at all times, the power, stability and serenity of The Domain remains relatively stable, when compared to the physical universe.
(The physical universe is, by definition, an infinite, icy void cluttered with random sources of savage energy combined with mindless chunks of matter. The massive and chaotic construction of the physical universe is utterly antipathetic to the spiritual “nothingness” which is the intelligent source of life forms and of universes.)”

THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND DEATH

SURVIVAL OPTIONS
by Lawrence R. Spencer
Like millions of world citizens I am slipping down the Rabbit Hole of Physical Mortality toward a certain and irrevocable death of my physical body. I will be 65 years old in August of 2011, along with 36.3 million others in the USA. There will be 86.7 million people 65 and over by the year 2050. That’s a 147% projected increase in the 65-and-over population between 2000 and 2050. By comparison, the population as a whole would have increased by only 49 percent over the same.
THE VALUE OF LIVING
Isn’t the purpose of living in a body to experience as much joy and pleasurable experience as possible? Sumptuous smells, sexual sensation, marvelous sights, exhilarating sounds, unpredictable motions, textures, physical / emotional impact and dramatic moments of interaction with other living beings are worthy reasons for life. Wonder, intellectual intrigue, mental challenges, freedom to play and barriers to accomplishment are all a part of the games that make life a pleasant preoccupation.
Conversely, isn’t the purpose of every living being to avoid painful sensation and emotion, failure, loneliness and oblivion?
Memories of pleasure never diminish from the mind: remember your first true love? Your most exquisite moments of sexual bliss or the most tender moments of compassion, cuteness, communication and compassion? The joys of living endure in our heart and mind forever. We can resurrect and relive the emotional rapture of music, the aesthetics of dance, the exuberance of sporting competition, dramatic performances, victories in life and each passionate moment of love: simply by remembering. Every moment of pleasure can be relived in the present as though it happened yesterday!
Painful memories, however, can be suppressed and forgotten with medication, drugs, time and ultimately with death. Pain does not linger beyond consciousness. For millennia sages and seers have assured us that it is washed away in the amnesia waves of afterlife. Likewise, the newborn baby does not suffer from memories of a life recently departed. Rather, it eagerly grasps the vigorous promise of action, joy and the sensations of new adventures that await.
Isn’t it logical, then, to live out one’s natural life with as much enjoyment as possible? Do the supposed benefits of physical longevity justify the disability, pain, dysfunction, financial expense and burden of labour placed upon others who must become your care-givers during these so-called “Golden Years” of life?
THE COSTS OF DYING
In truth, the vast majority of people live those “golden” years in ever-increasing pain, loneliness and sorrow — a relentless accumulation of physical and emotional pain and dysfunction during their declining years. They must also endure agony and grief as their life partners, friends, family and workmates wither and die around them.
In addition, the majority of people over 65 years of age can anticipate a multitude of diseases such as heart failure, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, pneumonia, atrophied muscles, dementia, failing memory, inability to function sexually, digestive disorders and depression to name of few. And finally, the ultimate certainty of death.
What about the financial expense involved to support an aging person for 10, 20 or 30 years after they leave the work force? What are the cumulative expenses of hospitalization, medical examinations, medical insurance, medical testing, prescription drugs, long-term care assistance and medical support? How much of one’s accumulated life savings or investments are consumed in order to keep an old, disabled, pain-riddled body alive for these last, lingering days?
$100,000? $500,000? $1,000,000? $5,000,000 or more?
In the US we spend an average of $6,500 to bury a depleted corpse six feet under the ground. There are about 23,000 active cemeteries in the United States alone. Every year we bury enough embalming fluid to fill eight Olympic-size swimming pools, enough metal to build the Golden Gate Bridge, and so much reinforced concrete in burial vaults that we could build a two-lane highway from New York to Detroit!
How much real estate is used to accommodate the billions of dead bodies that pile up under the Earth in a decade? What could the millions of acres of land used for graveyards be used for instead? The cost of maintaining cemeteries is billions of dollars a year! For what purpose? To remind living people that you had a body once, but that it’s dead now? Is this the height of vanity or the abyss of stupidity? Or both.
What does the tremendous expense of dying and death really buy? Who is the recipient of this money? Doctors, hospitals, drug companies, pharmacies, insurance companies, assisted living facilities, morticians, funeral homes, lawyers, government tax collectors, and possibly – if you plan very carefully and don’t outlive your life savings – your own family.
YOUR FINAL VACATION
How much pleasurable life experience could you pay for with the same amount of money if you spent it on a few years of pleasurable traveling, luxurious living and youthful adventures? What kind of vacation could you pay for with $350,000 or $750,000? How about 2 years in a luxury condominium on the beach in Maui? Or, perhaps first class accommodations on an 18-month luxury cruise ship around the world? Perhaps you could visit every beautiful travel destination you ever imagined: Tuscany, Paris, The Norwegian fjords, New Zealand, Switzerland, Banff, or the Grand Tetons.
Or, with a little planning the benefactors of your life insurance policy upon your death could live a more comfortable, pleasurable life. You could invest the same money in putting all of your grandchildren through college. Why not become the benefactor of a charity that creates a better future for the adults of tomorrow, or ensures the well-being of the natural environment for future generation? Your generosity will ensure that you name lives in the mind and hearts of others for centuries: at least as engraved on a plaque or monument or building façade, instead of a gravestone.
What if we combined the resources spent on supporting each of our 150 pounds of decaying flesh for the last 20 or 30 more years of painfully unproductive lives? These accumulated resources, carefully distributed and ethically invested, could be used to turn Earth into an actual Paradise for all living creatures, the environment and for future generations of people.
How you would feel if you suddenly become completely certain that you would return to live again shortly after your death to live a new body, and begin a new life?
VOLUNTARY EUTHANASIA AND CREMATION
If you knew this could you chose to knowingly plan a painless end of your own life? Does it make any sense to suffer through decades of pain and decay when you could leave this world in a blaze of joy, pleasure while ensuring a life of prosperity for the those to come – which may even effect your own future self?
The paraphrase the ethical enigma posed by the Elizabethan bard:
Painful, lingering death or a pleasant departure? That is the question. Whether it is nobler in the lives of men to bear the slings and arrows of misfortune, or, to die with grace and dignity with prosperity for all?
I wish you and all of us a happy and prosperous “Rest of your Eternity”.
