Explorer: The Lost Islands

Explorer Lost Islands

I’m super excited about the release of Explorer: The Lost Islands!

This book is beautiful! You have to see a copy of the hardcover in person! I wrote a 16-page story for this anthology called “Desert Island Playlist”, which was illustrated by my wife Raina Telgemeier and colored by Braden Lamb (who is also coloring her new book Sisters!).

Going APE in San Francisco

APE

October 12th & 13th I will be exhibiting at Alternative Press Expo, in San Francisco, California. Find Raina Telgemeier and I at table #321

Here are the panels I’ll be part of:

CBLDF: Raising a Reader

Saturday, October 12

12:00–1:00 in Programming Room

An all-star panel of kids comics creators and educators discuss ways to get children excited about reading, encourage creativity, and cultivate a love of literature using great graphic novels and comics. Panelists include Raina Telgemeier (Smile), Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy), Alexis Fajardo (Kid Beowulf, Peanuts), and Jack Baur (Teen Services Librarian at the Berkeley Public Library). Moderated by Betsy Gomez (CBLDF) with a Q&A to follow.

Comics Quickfire

Saturday, October 12

5:00-6:00pm on the Mezzanine

A fast-paced game show where volunteers are paired off with (or against) professional cartoonists in a series of fun-filled drawing challenges! Audience members provide suggestions and add to the creation of totally improvised epic drawings! Competing cartoonists include Debbie Huey, Stu Livingston, Katie Shanahan, and more!

Love & Comics: Working with a Spouse

Sunday, October 13

12:30–1:30PM in Programming Room

All’s fair in love and…comics? If love has its challenges and so does making comics, what is it like for those who create comics with a romantic partner? Join moderators Andrew Farago (Cartoon Art Museum) and Shaenon Garrity (Skin Horse), Thien Pham (Sumo), and comics couples Colleen Coover (Bandette) and Paul Tobin (Bandette), Raina Telgemeier (Drama) and Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy), and Jackie Estrada (Exhibit A Press) and Batton Lash (Supernatural Law) for this discussion of all things love and comics!
