Sabina Remembered

Groveland family

Sunday, July 29th 2012 was the memorial for my 13-year-old cousin, Sabina, who at age 13 passed away after a long battle with cancer. It was a beautiful afternoon held at her Florida home, surrounded by lush trees and filled with friends, family, and food. Music from her iPod played over hundreds of smiling photographs, and wonderful stories were shared.

Sabina was one of the bravest, and strongest people I have ever met. I have so much love and admiration for her wonderful parents Suzanne & Dionicio and siblings Sophia & Adonis, who have gone through so much, but continue to be the most welcoming people. Like Sabina, they all have an infectious spirit and passion for life that will forever inspire me and my work.

California Adventures

California Adventure

Back from a wonderful time in California for ALA and Disneyland! Raina and I met a ton of awesome librarians & of course we could not get enough of our favorite theme parks.

Sometimes I think I like all the signage, art direction and packaging of Disneyland as much as the rides!

How amazing is this retro Donald Duck drawing?

Ronald McDonald House

I was fortunate to once again participate in the annual Kids Comic Con visit to the NYC Ronald McDonald House. It’s an amazing place that I’m always happy to help in any way. The kids are so inspiring and we have a lot of fun drawing and coloring and talking about comics!

kid drawing nursery rhyme comics

This girl was especially interested in my copy of Nursery Rhyme Comics and started drawing her own versions of Humpty Dumpty, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and the Three Blind Mice!

Nursery Ryhme Comics fan art

A few kids designed their own super heroes and of course there were lots of requests for popular characters. I ended up drawing a lot Sonic The Hedgehog, Spiderman, SpongeBob and the Adventure Time duo of Finn & Jake!
