Katie's Star Wars sketch cards that never were
here are the sketch cards I did for the TOPPS Star Wars Galactic Files 2 trading card series. I was late on them because I'mma' jerk who focused on making My Little Pony comics instead. TOPPS has them in heand... so maybe they'll be used as rewards or to replace reuined cards, but they were not put into packs.
I liked the cards, so I wanted to post 'em. ENJOY!

I was asked to do the Third Eye Comics variant for issue #1 of the new Image title from the power team of Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios, Pretty Deadly!
I was THRILLED to be asked to do this, as I'm a big fan of both Kelly and Emma... this is what I came up with!

whitewashed fireplace tutorial
I have had a few people ask me about something OTHER than my drawings... how I whitewashed my fireplace a few months ago! It was really simple, so I'm throwing together the progress photos for the folks who asked.
***
So, I did this before we moved in to the house right after we closed. When we bought the house, the 70s red brick stood out like a sore thumb in the room. It was REALLY red and the brass metal part made me want to gag.
I took 2 parts water and 1 part white paint (just the white wall paint that was left over from painting trim in the house) and mixed it all up really well.
Have your paint mixture handy, a cheap paintbrush (Mine was a 3" brush that has painted many a room and was about to be trashed) and a rag.
Dip your brush in the watery paint and go NUTS. Use the rag to catch drippings and spills (The paint is RUNNY, there will be drips). Use the ugly curtains the previous owners left on the windows as a dropcloth if you can.
I ended up going over some of of the darker bricks with another coat. The watery paint dries SUPER quick and you can put on another coat right away if need be. (Really, this part went by so fast).
After taking care of the brick... it was time to tackle the brass metal and the mantel. Tape off/mask off the metal

i made myself a make-shift spraybooth and opened EVERY WINDOW in the house (thank goodness I did this before I was pregnant) :P
I sprayed the whole mess with Rust-oleum High Heat matte black paint.
You should probably wear a mask... Just so you know.
That high heat paint dries FAST... so, I moved on the mantel. The wood mantel that was there was BOLTED into the brick and I could NOT got it off without killing myself... So i painted it. I masked it off and primed it, then painted it with a high-gloss grey.
and that was it! It took me all of a few hours to totally makeover that end of the room.
And here's the room as it stands today! One day, that oddly beige/tan carpet will go away. I can't wait for THAT day.
