Rags & Bones
Psyched to post this new book cover for Rags & Bones that I art directed and designed while I was at Little, Brown! And a mighty hat tip to the amazing Grady McFerrin who did the artwork and the hand-typography!

The Watcher in the Shadows
Here’s a new Y.A. book cover I had the pleasure of illustrating and doing the typography for, called The Watcher in the Shadows, published by the fine folk at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. It’s a cool novel that’s a mix of Yiddish Policeman’s Union, Goodfellas, and Harry Potter! Check it out!

Done with Little, Brown
I’m all wrapped up with my three-month gig at Little, Brown. My availability should be returning back to normal now.

The Opposite of Tidy
Here’s a new cover I illustrated and designed for Penguin/Razorbill called The Opposite of Tidy. They also commissioned an animated gif of the cover as well, which I’ll post closer to the book’s release when it’s OK to do so. In the meantime, you can check out the full cover on the project’s portfolio page.

Zombie Baseball Beatdown
Fresh from the ARC pile is an incredibly fun cover I got to illustrate for Little, Brown: Zombie Baseball Beatdown! I really love Paolo Bacigalupi’s books and was thrilled to get the opportunity to illustrate a third one (I’ve previously illustrated Ship Breaker and The Drowned Cities). Also fun was getting to do it in my comic style, which is always a blast. Hey, art directors, it’s awesome to be getting so much silhouette work these days, but throw some more covers like these my way, please!
Zombie Baseball Beatdown is a great read and goes on sale in September.

Back at Little, Brown for Three Months
Starting tomorrow, I’ll be filling in again for an art director out on maternity leave at Little, Brown and Company. So, for the next three months my availability for freelance work is going to be limited. I may still take on the occasional assignment while I’m there, so don’t hesitate to email me if there’s something you’re interested in, but be prepared that there’s a good chance I’ll turn it down. Once that gig’s over, it’ll be back to business as usual.

Syracuse University Visual Communication Symposium
Earlier this week I had the awesome pleasure of speaking at Syracuse University’s Visual Communication Symposium. When I was an illustration student back in the day at S.U., it was my dream that someday I’d get to be one of the speakers myself. Well, I’m thrilled to say I can check that off the list.
It was great to be back and talk about where my career has taken me since graduating. Afterwards, I got to hang out with some of the class and talk more to them about their interests and field any specific questions they had. It’s always fun to engage with students who are so excited about the field and their future roles in it.
Thanks so much to Tim Coolbaugh for inviting me and I can’t wait to come back sometime in the future!

It’s Easy Being Green
Here’s a new illustration for Bloomberg Businessweek about making green living easier to do by having it be the default rather than something that requires effort. Basically, altering it so that green lifestyle choices become the lazy man’s option. I tried to work with a more limited palette this time and think it ended up quite successful (if a little Simpons-y). Definitely will be doing more limited palettes in future illustrations.
