Selling my backlist (and short stories) as ebooks

I'm starting to sell my backlist as ebooks. The store that will open on my web page is still a few days off, but Fools Errant and Fool Me Twice, my first two Archonate novels, are now listed on the Amazon kindle store and on Kobo, at $2.99 each (I haven't figured out how to do two-for pricing yet.)

I've also collected all the Henghis Hapthorn stories in one $2.99 e-volume entitled Nine Tales of Henghis Hapthorn. It's on Amazon now, and will show up on Kobo tomorrow. The collection includes the original six stories that ran in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction and which led to the three Hapthorn novels. One of the stories is "Sweet Trap", which ran in F&SF but was also the opening chapter of the second Hapthorn novel, The Spiral Labyrinth. The other two are "Fullbrim's Finding", which ran in F&SF after the novels came out, and "The Immersion," which ran in Postscripts.

Estore open for business

At long last, and after heroic efforts by web page designer extraordinaire, Bradley W. Schenck, the Archonate ebookstore is now open for business:

At the moment, I’m, selling my first two Archonate novels, Fools Errant and Fool Me Twice, at $2.99 apiece. As soon as it’s formatted, I’ll also be offering Nine Tales of Henghis Hapthorn (collecting all of the Hapthorn stories), at the same price.

Next up will be Template, a standalone Archonate space opera, and a collection of all the Guth Bandar stories. They’ll also be priced at $2.99 apiece and should be on sale next month.

Please tell your friends.

Fools Errant review

The Entropy Pump blog has posted a review of my first Archonate novel, Fools Errant: " It’s a sly and witty travelogue that sports a fool as the main character (thought not a foolish one) who, instead of seeing the wonders around him, looks at the world as something that is out to get or least annoy him."

A fair summary of Filidor Vesh, at least at the start of the novel. Here's the first chapter.

New versions of my ebooks

Hardware malfunctions have kept me from updating here since late September, but now I'm back. I have a number of things to post about but 'll do them one at a time over the next few days so as not to be constantly tugging on your sleeve.

My gifted book designer and webmaster, Bradley W. Schenck, has sent me new and improved versions of my self-published ebooks, Fools Errant, Fool Me Twice, Template, The Meaning of Luff, The Complete Guth Bandar, 9 Tales of Henghis Hapthorn, and Paroxysm.

If you've bought them on Amazon, the updated content will automatically come through. If you haven't bought them, now would be a good time.

Writing blurbs for Jack Vance novels

It's no secret I'm a lifelong fan of the late Jack Vance. So it's been a real pleasure to have been asked by Jack's son, John, to write some promotional blurbs for some of his best-loved titles: the Demon Princes novels and the Tschai tetralogy. The blurbs will be produced as video clips, with art work from Vance aficionado Koen Vyverman and my words read by John Vance.

I never got to meet Jack to express my admiration, although I did dedicate my first novel, Fools Errant, to him. Helping his son to make his works known to new readers is the least I can do.

Fools Errant and Fool Me Twice in paperback

I should have done this back when I started offering print-on-demand paperbacks through Amazon's CreateSpace subsidiary, but better late than never: my first two fantasy novels, Fools Errant and Fool Me Twice, are now available as POD paperbacks, for $12.99 each, from the CreateSpace store:

Fools Errant

Fool Me Twice

Together, they're the coming-of-age story of Filidor Vesh, apprentice Archon, who later became a pretty good Archon in his own right and had dealings with Henghis Hapthorn and took an interest in the doings of Luff Imbry.

Fools Errant was written when I was less than half the age I am today and hadn't yet learned not to go over the top. Fool Me Twice is a more mature book but still a farce. But people read them and like them, so who am I to argue?

These editions have been designed and formatted by the exceptionally able Bradley W. Schenck, Hero of the Archonate (he has the medal), and upcoming Tor author.
