Olympia Publishers Review:
Reading Clive Blake’s latest anthology is a life-affirming experience; light-hearted and comical, introspective and challenging. In this rhythmic exploration of both the mundane and the cosmic aspects of existence, no stone is left unturned: the promise of childhood, the uncertainties of youth and ageing, environmental apocalypse, ‘disabilit-ease’, historic whodunnits, love, death and escapee milk bottles, to name a few.
Clive Blake’s creativity and passion stems from his solid Cornish roots, captured in his reflections on the simple grandeur of the Cornish landscape. Perhaps it is this love of his native surroundings which lends his writing a rare sense of humility and groundedness. Although some of these poems are imbued with a quiet nostalgia, there is also an overwhelming sense of awe at life, at what it has to offer if one is brave enough to look within. And, of course, the poems come with a caveat: ‘no thoughts have been harmed during the making of this book’!

It is not easy to visualise exactly what Phoetry is ...
Clive Blake

I came up with the Phoetry concept in the early 1990s and describe it as a fusion of photography and poetry. Others have expanded on this concept since and its definition has expanded to include other media as well.

View Points and Points of View by Clive Blake Use This LINK ...http://cliveblake.deviantart.com
... if you would like to see some examples of my Phoetry,
on a brilliant site called Deviant Art.
If for some reason this link doesn't work ...
just go to the DeviantArt.com site and type in either " Clive Blake " or " Phoetry ".

Sales to America and the World

Fortunately, readers are giving my book View Points and Points of View , a brilliant reception, especially from America and beyond, but many people are contacting me from overseas to find out where they can get hold of a copy. The book is available from most good book shops in the UK, but probably the best place to purchase the book at the moment is from the website www.EmuHouse.co.uk . The book's RRP is £17.99 and this is currently the price it is being sold for on wwww.Amazon.co.uk, but it is being sold for a promotional price of only £9.99 on www.EmuHouse.co.uk.

Latest review -Cornish World magazine by Megan Westley, Deputy Editor

Before even reaching the main content of this book I had smiled to myself twice, a very encouraging beginning. Clive Blake, poet, and Chris Robbins, photographer, grew up on Cornish farms and share a love of Cornwall and its natural environment. Instead of individually producing a poetry book or a book of photography, the pair worked together on this 'phoetry', a fusion of the two, to create something that is unique and offers more dimensions to their views. Rather than simply running alongside each other, the two creative energies truly enhance each other: a poem on the subject of an aged soldier is made considerably more poignant by the photograph that accompanies it. Blake and Robbins are not afraid to tackle subjects that are uncomfortable or upsetting, though to balance this, at times the book is also incredibly witty and funny. In all, it made me think deeply, laugh loudly and spend time among its pages. Two first- rate artists have produced a book that is consequently absolutely first-rate.

Ranked in top 1%

Amazon.co.uk has more than twenty-seven million book titles listed, but View Points and Points of View is ranked in its top 1%. This is quite an achievement when you consider it is up against the marketing power of publishers promoting celebrity biographies and the like. Long may the smaller publisher flourish. A big thank you to all of you who have given this book such an enthusiastic welcome.

Why is an emu staring out of a shed?

Several people have asked me why there is an emu staring out of the stable door on the front cover of View Points and Points of View . My hugely talented photographer friend, and joint author, Chris Robbins, took all of the images within this highly illustrated book, including the striking image used for the cover.

It’s a long story … but not a tall one …
Chris’s son Ben was given a large emu egg by someone who thought it was most likely infertile, thinking that Ben would probably blow the yolk out and use the emptied shell as an ornament. Ben was only thirteen at the time, but living on the family farm, was very interested in all aspects of nature. He was determined to find out if there was any chance that the egg was fertile and asked around to local farmers to see if he could borrow an incubator. He was eventually lent one and put it into his bedroom, the egg being carefully placed inside. He kept a regular check on the humidity levels and turned the egg several times a day. He carried on doing this for more than seven weeks. Normal hen’s eggs hatch within three weeks. But hatch it did, to the amazement of most people who thought Ben was wasting his time. The emu chick was so much bigger than an ordinary chick that it lifted the lid of the incubator every time it stood up. Because of its youthful striped plumage it was named Humbug, after the stripy boiled sweets of that name. Humbug went on to be a popular member of the farmyard community and would from time to time put its long neck through any open kitchen window to see if it could pinch some biscuits or other treats when no-one was looking! There is a full photo of Humbug, which accompanies the poem Ostri-Sized.

So although the encyclopaedia states that emus are only found in Australia, Humbug is a Cornish emu and is proud to contradict this statement.
