Flashing Forward and the tyranny of genre
Via the wonder of the internet, I've caught up with both episodes of Flashforward so far. I can say that I'm enjoying it, and I hope it avoids the fate of another similarly time-twisting series ABC tried during Lost's absence, the show Daybreak . Like the prior effort, it has a contemporary setting using the tropes of the cop-show genre to tell a sfnal story, which is now a sub-genre unto itself. After two episodes, I get the sense that Graeme McMillan, over at io9, doesn't like it

You know, the White House is not as politically astute as it thinks it is
Democrats should be realizing now that Obama's dearth of experience, especially executive political experience, was probably not as big an issue in the campaign as it should have been. I'm sure, at the time, everyone who voted for him assured themselves that he was going to be fine, he'd just appoint old Clinton people to drive the bus while he got his sea legs. The president is, after all, a manager more than anything else.
Problem is, the guy sucks as a manager.
Just look at all his

Attempted Vehicular Homicide
In 1983 Steven King wrote the novel Chistine, about a car that was possessed. A vehicle that was, in essence, evil. I now realize that Mr. King, more than likely, owned at one point a vehicle much like my 96 Ford F-150. Like some people, some vehicles just seem to be born bad. Ford trucks as a rule are pretty solid investments, but this one. . . This one is evil.
We have new brakes, new ball joints, a new exhaust system, power steering repairs, a rebuilt new transmission, and just now...

So when she says no, it means yes?
Celebrities belong to a different class of people, they are not subject to normal petty laws short of perhaps murder. Even then, you often see the accused, and the fans of the accused, twist facts to the breaking point to portray any prosecution as persecution.
Even when the bastard pleads guilty.
In the case of Roman Polanski, there's no question of the facts. He drugged a 13 year old girl and anally raped her over her protests. When everyone says Polanski is fleeing a statutory rape...

ACORN is a bad seed
Mea culpa time. I was wrong about ACORN the first time I posted about it. I still believe the thesis of that post, but I think I was a bit ignorant of the scope of the corruption involved. And a little exchange on Facebook led me to realize that a lot of people (most perhaps) are still living in the happy little world where registering Mickey Mouse was only a little bit of comic relief for the Morning Zoo crowd. In fact, there are some people that still honestly believe that ACORN is...
