Gamebook Friday: 'TWAS - The Roleplaying Game Before Christmas

This time last year, I was preparing for the publication of 'TWAS - The Krampus Night Before Christmas (and a signed copy makes the perfect Christmas gift or stocking filler, by the way).

This year I am preparing for the publication of 'TWAS - The Roleplaying Game Before Christmas, a multi-player RPG inspired by the ACE Gamebook.

The RPG features the art originally produced for the gamebook, but this time in full colour, and I am delighted to be able to report that Tony Hough has returned to provide additional illustrations for the rulebook and the supplement The Lion, the Snitch and the Wardrobe. Illustrations like these...

Anyone who has read  'TWAS - The Krampus Night Before Christmas  will doubtless be able to identity this pair.

Necromunda: Uprising

This is released today...

At the poison heart of Necromunda, a sickness festers: where the word of Helmawr is law, the many go hungry… but murder is cheap, and meat is everywhere, for those willing to take it. While the nobles of the spire sit and watch, bloody-handed gangers war in an endless battle for survival.
The venator Yar Umbra cuts a swathe through Hive Primus, chasing the promise of escape from Necromunda. A cawdor juve, desperate to prove himself, finds a statue of the Emperor that will change his life forever. A corpse guild drudge learns what his superiors are desperate to keep forbidden. And Caleb Cursebound, ninth most dangerous man in the underhive, thief of the Hand of Harrow, flees to the remote mining settlement of Hope’s End, pursued by those who would see his reputation forever tarnished…
Uprising: A Necromunda Anthology  features my first Necromunda fiction in seventeen years, a short story called Paradise . It is available to buy now .

Gamebook Friday: European Day of Languages

Friday 25 September is the European Day of Languages, which is rather apt because I have had some news recently about some of the foreign language editions of my ACE Gamebooks.

Alice au Pays des Cauchemars - the French language edition of Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland, published by Éditions Alkonost - is being distributed in game stores by Novalis, a subsidiary of Asmodée, which means that it is now on the shelves of almost every RPG store in France!

Alice au pays des cauchemars on sale in an RPG store in France.
Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland  is now available in English, Czech, Germany, French, Spanish (Argentina), Portuguese (Brazil), with the Italian edition on its way some time next year*.
It's also World Dream Day and the end of National Mushroom Month, which are also a perfect fit for Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland , which features both dreams and mushrooms.
Kev Crossley's illustration of the Caterpillar atop its toadstool.
I also received copies of the Czech language edition of The Wicked Wizard of Oz  from Mytago Publishing this week. Now just called Oz , it is a lovely little hardback with good quality paper stock and black endpapers.

The English edition of The Wicked Wizard of Oz next to the Czech edition, Oz, for size comparison.
And to finish on, Chameleon Comix recently posted this image on Twitter...

That's right, 'TWAS - The Krampus Night Before Christmas will be out in Hungarian before Christmas 2021.

If you are a publisher who would like to publish the ACE Gamebooks series in your country, drop me a line at info@jonathangreenauthor.com.

* I hope. It was supposed to have been released this spring, but COVID but the kybosh on that plan.

Tie-in Tuesday: Forever Autumn

Today, Tuesday 22nd September, is the autumn equinox.

There are a couple of short story anthologies coming out this autumn, featuring tales by Yours Truly.

Uprising: A Necromunda Anthology is released on 1st October.

My story, Paradise, sees a gang of Orlocks looking for a lost dome, rumoured to be an oasis of fresh water and clean air; a veritable... paradise. But the Dust Dogs aren't the only ones searching for it...

Paradise is the first piece of Necromundan fiction I have had published since 2003.

Judge Fear's Big Day Out and Other Stories is a collection of prose tales that first appeared in the monthly Judge Dredd Megazine and the anthology comic 2000AD.

The 'Other Stories' include four of mine, that first saw print a few years ago. If you missed them at the time, look out for Judge Fear's Big Day Out and Other Stories when it is published on 12th November.

National Teddy Bear Day

Held annually on 9th September, National Teddy Bear Day honours the history of one of childhood's favorite toys.

In 1902, American President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear cub while out hunting in Mississippi. The incident made national news, with Clifford Berryman publishing a cartoon of the event in the Washington Post on 16th November 1902, and the caricature became an instant classic.

The Berryman cartoon of Teddy Roosevelt and the cub inspired New York store owner Morris Michtom. He created a new toy and even had a name in mind. Michtom wrote to President Roosevelt to ask permission to name the new toy a 'Teddy Bear'.

Naturally, the Teddy Bear is one of the PCs in the forthcoming 'TWAS - The Roleplaying Game Before Christmas , and has the Special Abilities Charm, Fearsome and Strength. All it wants is to keep its child-owner safe from harm. The faithful, big-hearted bear can do this by giving the child a comforting cuddle, when required, or by fighting off those who would threaten its beloved owner, in a frenzy of flailing claws.

To find out more about 'TWAS - The Roleplaying Game Before Christmas , an RPG based on last year's ACE Gamebooks release 'TWAS - The Krampus Night Before Christmas , follow this link .
