Steampunk Thursday: The Ulysses Quicksilver Omnibus - Vol. 2

I've got three books out this week, and they're all Steampunk-related - Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland the gamebook, the Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland Colouring Book , and The Ulysses Quicksilver Omnibus Volume 2 !

In his ongoing adventures in the services of the Empire, Ulysses Quicksilver - hero and dandy - is increasingly confronted with the darkness at the heart of Britannia. This worthy tome collects three tales of desperation: Evolution Expects : After more than 150 years as the supreme power on the planet, the British Empire has become stagnant and corrupt. The new Prime Minister, Devlin Valentine, promises change, but there are those who lack the patience for politics. With a dangerous vigilante stalking the streets, a monster on the loose in the East End and rival gangs fighting for control, there may be nothing Ulysses - trapped in the notorious Bedlam Hospital - can do to prevent a catastrophic metamorphosis! Blood Royal : With the city, and the Empire, reeling from the transformations of a month before, a twisted new religion rises from the devastation. In the meantime, in Europe, the spectre of war rears its ugly head; and rumours hint at monsters, things of myth, on both sides. Ulysses Quicksilver, fighting for peace and for reason - for civilisation itself - follows a path that leads him from the shattered streets of London to the icy wastes at the heart of a dark and bloody empire. Dark Side : Searching for his missing brother Barty, Ulysses heads to the British Lunar colonies. The trail leads him and his faithful butler into the path of unsolved murders, battling robots, shady millionaires and uncanny inventions. Stalled when he ends up on the wrong side of Lunar law and hunted by a mysterious eyepatch-wearing stranger, the dandy adventurer will uncover, in a secret base on the dark side of the moon, truths that will challenge everything he knew about Britannia...Order your copy of The Ulysses Quicksilver Omnibus Volume 2 today!

Christmas Explained, from A(dvent) to Z(oophagous)

It's 1st December again, the night's have drawn in, there's a distinct chill in the air, and what better way is there to prepare yourself for the coming of Christmas than to dip into Christmas Explained - Robins, Kings and Brussel Sprouts every day in Advent.

You'll discover all sorts of fascinating Yuletide facts, including the origins of the Advent calendar, the origins of Yule, and the origins of the traditional family pantomime.
Christmas Explained is available now from Snowbooks (appropriately enough) and via Amazon.
Oh, and if you'll able to (and up early enough), why not tune in to BBC Radio Wiltshire this morning between 8.00am and 8.30am, when I will be making an 'appearance' on Ben Prater's show?

Thought for the Day

The Doctor is such a familiar character, do kids think you're actually him?

"It's lovely. I'm still Peter, but when I walk into a room I get all the smiles the Doctor would get. The other day I had a little girl come up to me and throw her arms around my neck, crying: 'Doctor Who, Doctor Who.'

"It's very easy to make people happy when they're automatically glad to see you and you just have to be nice to them in return. Which is a pretty good rule for life. Just show up and don't be horrible, and you'd be surprised how much people like it."

~ Peter Capaldi, the Twelfth Doctor

The Warlock of Firetop Mountain - The Eleventh Hour!*

There are only eleven hours to go until  The Warlock of Firetop Mountain Kickstarter  funds (at 11.00pm on Sunday, UK time). If you've not backed it yet, don't miss out on this unique opportunity.

You can read about my involvement in the project here.

* And don't worry, I know that's not what the expression 'eleventh hour' means, it was just too good a phrase not to use it. ;-)

Dragonmeet 2015 - one week to go!

There's only one week to go until  Dragonmeet , where I will be launching my brand new, choose your path adventure gamebook Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland. The launch itself will happen at 12.00pm - after the Jackson and Livingstone signing at the Fighting Fantasy stand that is next door to mine.
Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland  is going to feature in the event programme too, partly in the form of this rather fine advert...

... and partly in a piece I've written about converting Lewis Carroll's classic children's book.

So if you're in the West London/Ibis Hotel Earls Court area, why not stop by and say hello? Just look for this banner!
