More Website Updates Ahoy!
I’ve been poking at the website again and have a few new additions!
First, The Roots Grow Into the Earth has its own page, with the cover, blurb, and release date. As the release date closes expect to find information about where you can get the book as well as any early reviews on this page!
Second, I’ve added the foundation of a store page! Now that I’m on Ingramspark as well as Amazon I’m looking to expand distribution of my book to as many platforms as I can, and my website is one of these platforms (if you’ve got tips on any other places I should look to sell my books let me know). I’m also hoping to sell some thematically appropriate merch on the store page in the more distant future.
Third, I’ve added a donations button to the side bar of the home page and to the story page. I’d like for as much of my writing to be freely available as possible, but I also need to feed my cats. If you enjoy my work and would like to contribute, please consider leaving a donation. Posting reviews or just sharing the site links with your horror friends is a great way to support me too.
More substantial news for The Roots Grow Into the Earth will be coming in about a fortnight or so, so stay tuned!

Fortnightly Writing Update: Episode 4
Hello and happy Friday! I’m back with another update on what’s been going on in the Universe of Roots!
Story UpdatesThis week, The Roots Grow Into the Earth got sent off to a proofreader, so much like a parent with a child off at college I’m a bit of an empty nester currently and mostly just poking at other projects while I wait to implement manuscript edits.
The biggest of these projects is a novel that I’d like to have ready next year! I’ve spent the past few weeks digging into chapters, organizing scenes, and creating outlines to bring it to life, and it’s looking to be a pretty crazy story. In the near future you’ll get to hear more details about this project.
There are two other short stories currently on the backburner that I’d like to drop onto the website in the near future as well, but information on those will have to wait until marketing for The Roots Grow Into the Earth is finished.
Though I don’t have too much for you in the way of writing updates, do keep your eyes open for a cover reveal for The Roots Grow Into the Earth coming later today!
Additionally, if you’re interested in getting an Advanced Reader Copy of my upcoming collection send me a note on Instagram or Tiktok! I’ll be distributing ARC copies in August.

A New Story, Beach Day, is now Available to Read
I entered a story into a horror flash fiction competition hosted by the author Patrick McNulty, with the theme of Summer Vacation.
There were a whole bunch of amazing entries, and you should really go check them out over at Patrick’s website here. The winning story by William Gray is super creepy.

A New Narration is Live on my Website!

Today I released another video of me narrating one of my short stories. This time I read What Lies in the Icy Soil, and made it a little fancier by adding some music with TikTok’s video editing platform.

A Quick Update on Story Availability
Hey there!
With the paperback release of The Roots Grow Into the Earth coming on October 7 of 2023 I wanted to give you a rundown of what to expect for the availability of the stories contained within this collection.
The Roots Grow Into the Earth contains nine stories, three which are currently on Amazon (Interstate, The Wall, and Joanne’s Vault) and six from my website (Their Eyes Were Dust, What Lies in the Icy Soil, etc.)
These stories will all remain available in their current locations and current forms, even after the publication of the paperback book.
However, since I am also planning on releasing an e-book version of the collection, the three books I currently have on Amazon will no longer be available on Kindle Unlimited.
If you’d like to read my three longer stories on Kindle Unlimited, below are the last days they will be available:
Interstate: August 31, 2023
The Wall: September 1. 2023
Joanne’s Vault: July 29, 2023
As far as pricing goes, I’m expecting the e-book version of The Roots Grow Into the Earth to be pretty close to the total cost of buying the three standalone e-books, but more on that when the release date approaches.

The Free Stories Page Has Been Updated!

I’ve updated the website to make it easier to see my full catalog of free stories! You can access the new page by using the navigation bar at the top of this page and clicking on the “Stories” option, or you can go directly to the new page at bertwriteshorror.com/stories
The old link to the previous webpage still works, in case you find it out in the wild online, so don’t panic if you find yourself on the old page!
A store page is coming some time between now and October, so keep your eyes peeled for that as well.
