Writing Competition
What are writers views on writing competitions? Ive just been put forward to take part in one, and would like some input or advice from others, who may see an exercise like this as being useful or a waste of time....

Wow!
What a surprise. Just got my first statement from Amazon, and very pleased to see my book has gone to readers in Canada, the USA and Australia, as well as naturally here in the UK. That really s a big lift and thank you to everyone who dived in.

Big let down
I wonder if any other author gets the initial surge of excitement upon publication, but then a big 'let down' a little while afterwards?
There is a flurry of activity with people buying, reading and reviewing, but then........nothing; like a deflated balloon a few days after it has been inflated.
I suppose it's time to start writing a new story.......

Multi Titles
On glancing through some of the best sellers lists on Amazon, I am amazed at how many titles an author can produce.
Some authors have long lists of books to their name, with covers and designs that all look very similar.
How doe they do it? Do they have teams of 'ghost writers' beavering away into the night to produce another batch of text and titles?
It kind of puts me off the author slightly when I see that so many books have been published in a relatively short period of time.
I HAVE read all the Dan Brown books, and having a gap of a few years between each title seems to be very reasonable.
Maybe I'm just jealous of the writers who can produce three or four books a year. I probably am, I'm a slow writer.

Am I an Author?
Although I have written for a number of years and during this time published a couple of books and many magazine articles, I have never 'felt' like an author. However, now I am amongst some great creative people and writers here on Goodreads, for the first time, I actually 'feel' like an author.
