Hours by One & the Many

Two years ago, I started a project with my friend, a musician named Frank. We were planning on releasing 10 albums in 10 years. We called the project One & the Many. Well, On October 21, we released our second album in the project, Hours. This album is more straight ahead than our first one, Forms, both in terms of the musical approach and the lyrics.

For this project, I write all the lyrics. Frank writes all the music. He also performs vocal and guitar duties. The band is rounded out with Bill on bass and Dempsey on drums. Finally, my extremely talented wife (and the artist behind all my covers) Pamela produces the album artwork for us.

You can find One & the Many’s newest album, Hours, here. Enjoy!

5 Burning Questions with Israfel Sivad

Writers & Words 5 Question Interview with me…

Writers & Words

As well as feature our future readers, we also wanted to check in with folks who have read for us over the last 5 years.  Israfel Sivad read for us in 2019 – read what he has been up to below!

What have you been up to since reading with us at Writers & Words? How has the writing been going?

Well, like most of the world, I’ve been on lockdown with my family. We’re currently in the process of moving from Alexandria, VA to Baltimore right now, however, which is very exciting to us. My wife went to high school in the city, and my grandfather lived there while I was growing up. In fact, we were married at the American Visionary Art Museum. We love Baltimore, and we’re looking forward to becoming residents of it and raising our child there. On top of the logistics of moving during…

Broken Chains of Segregation: LIVE!

In the mid-1990s, I played in a political hardcore band called Broken Chains of Segregation. On November 30, 2019, we performed a reunion show with five other local bands from back in the day at Richmond Music Hall. This is the full video.

Review – We Are The Underground: Poems by Israfel Sivad

A lovely short review of my newest collection of poetry, We Are the Underground, from Examining the Odd.

I would love to meet Israfel Sivad one day, although he lives in America, I’m in the UK… I think we’d have a lot of things to chat about over a glass of something. I find that a lot of poetry doesn’t speak to me because it’s too emotional. This book, We Are The Underground, is a rare find where the poetry can be enjoyed as art, not just feelings put in to words. Each piece is very creative. Having said that, I think those who enjoy poetry for the reasons that I don’t would also enjoy Israfel Sivad’s work. So, really… it’s for everyone.

Israfel sent me a copy of this book to review because I featured one of the poems, A Straight Line Runs Through It All, last year. I have also reviewed two more of his poetry collections, The Tree Outside My Window and Indigo…

One & the Many – Forms

forms cover

Michael Anthony Adams, Jr.’s newest collaboration.

Based in Washington, DC, One & the Many began as an artistic collaboration between two friends, musician Frank Stewart and poet Michael Adams. With Stewart writing music and Adams providing lyrics for Stewart to sing, the duo enlisted the skills of fellow musicians Dempsey Hamilton on drums and Bill Freeman on bass. Stewart played the remaining instruments to complete One & the Many’s debut album, Forms. Produced by Stewart and mastered by Anthony Lourdes, Forms features a cover designed by visual artist Pamela Adams, making One & the Many a multi-genre artistic collective.

Check out One & the Many’s debut album, Forms, here.
