It's a real challenge to type up uninspired words, especially when I know most of them are going to be re-written several times over. But it usually pays off. Sometimes I discover the 'right' way to write the scene when I'm in the middle of it. Other times I try a scene over and over and realize that the problem lies with the tail end of the previous scene.

Every once in a while, something I slowly and painfully forced myself to write actually sounds perfectly fine when read aloud later.

If all else fails, I'll talk to a trusted person about whatever problem is blocking the plot from progressing. Hearing someone else's perspective on a character or a plotline is helpful and keeps me grounded. (less)
