Do your characters prefer honest communications (regardless of damage or strife) or do they prefer to keep the peace between each other (at any cost)?

“there was a time when we laid on your bed

with the ceiling fan turning in dizzy circles

above our heads and forgot to look at the clock.

there was a time when we drank the kind of wine

that gives you a sweet ache in your teeth

and talked about the people we loved before

we knew each other existed. there was a time

when we felt so safe in your cheap apartment

with the front door locked against the past.

if someone would have told me that in two

years, I would be doing the same thing

across town in a different bed,

this time whispering your name

when I counted old hurts,

I would have screamed.”

This is the real Rick Ross. The rapper took his name.

The real Rick Ross… Real Rap.

It’s sickening to me that anyone should have to go to this extent to come back to being a productive member of society after prison. Shouldn’t that be our goal for every prisoner, shouldn’t we be promoting that rather than stifling it? It’s a great success story for him that he managed to pull this off, but what about the 1000s of others who didn’t? Who tried and failed? WHY IS PRISON NOT REHABILITATIONAL?!
