What is a Ghost?
Are you ready for some unlearning? Prepare yourself because ghosts are not what you think they are.
The definition of “ghost” according to Merriam-Webster is “the soul of a dead person believed to be an inhabitant of the unseen world or to appear to the living in bodily likeness.”
The original ghost hunting team T.A.P.S. from Ghost Hunters will teach you that there are two types of ghosts: residual and intelligent. A residual ghost is the soul of a dead person caught in a loop in time that replays a memory the person acted out in life. Like a farmer using farming equipment. Unlike a residual spirit that’s trap in time, an intelligent ghost will respond to and interact directly with the living.
Hollywood has its own spin on what ghosts are: the soul of a dead person caught in limbo until they resolve their unfinished business. Take it from movies like Casper and Ghost.
But the Bible teaches something different entirely.
Second Corinthians 5:8 says, “to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” In the moment we die, our spirits leave our bodies and are transported directly to the final destination of we chose in life (Heaven or Hell). But what keeps the souls from trickling out of Heaven or Hell to interact with the living?
The parable of Luke 16:19-31 does. Jesus gives the parable of a rich man in hell who calls out to Abraham in Heaven. The rich man begs for a former beggar he knew, Lazarus, to dip his finger in water and place it on the rich man’s tongue to quench the torment from the flames of Hades. But Abraham says, “And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thee.”
The gulf is a boundary that souls in Heaven and Hades cannot cross. If souls can’t leave Heaven and Hades, that means they cannot be the “ghosts” behind paranormal activity on earth.

If ghosts aren’t the souls of the dead, then what are they?
Demons.
Trust me, I know how it sounds. I grew up in haunted houses. I had a ghost hunting investigation for my 13th birthday party. But hear me out because it’s true. There is no such thing as “ghosts” as we know it.
Leviticus 19:31 says, “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spirits, for you will be defiled by them.”

Satan and the demonic have the power to manifest as your lost loved one or friend, or even as your family pet. Without fully understanding Second Corinthians 5:8 and Luke 16:26, it is easy for the Devil to lure you into sin and affliction under the guise of a deceased person.
Why would demons pretend to be a ghost? Simple: to draw us away from God.
If you knew the spirit of your deceased grandmother was roaming your house, you’d be less likely to rebuke it, right? Letting “Grandma’s” spirit stay is giving place to the Devil in your home.
If you saw the cat you just lost scampering through the house, you’re bound to follow it when it seems to be leading you to something. It’s leading you to isolation so the Devil can attack you.
Think about the obsession of ghost hunters. Their mission is to prove that life continues after death. And in that obsessive pursuit, they replace seeking God with seeking evidence.
Scripture already proves life after death.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
– Romans 6:23
We need to see “ghosts” and paranormal activity through spiritual eyes. That’s not little Betty Jo who drowned in the lake behind your house in 1836; that apparition of a little girl is a dressed-up demon.
We need to stop chasing ghosts and start chasing God.
Depending on what was chosen in life, spirits of the dead are locked in Heaven or Hades. The gulf prevents them from crossing over to the realm of the living. Therefore, ghosts are demons come to lure you into captivity to fear, curiosity, thrill, and idolatry. Don’t fall for it! Surrender the hunt for the dead and seek eternal life in the Word of God. You won’t regret it.

We Killed Christ
On Palm Sunday over 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9 as He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh into thee: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon a donkey…
_ Zechariah 9:9
As Jesus entered the city, there was a great celebration. The multitudes laid down their garments and palm branches along His path, and they cried out, “Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.”
But did you know, those same people would be crying out, “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” only a week later? Did you know that those people are you and me?
I don’t know about you, but I praise God daily for His mercy, grace, forgiveness, and love. I start my day off with an hour of Bible time: memorizing Scripture, diving deep into His Word, praying. I lift my voice up to Him in worship on the way to work. I have gospel conversations with my co-workers who are far from God. But then I get home and gluttonously defile my body with four snacks in a row. On some nights, I let my kids round off their day with the television instead of the Word of God. Throughout the day, I’ll hear the Holy Spirit encouraging me to make healthy and holy choices, but I’ll make up ten excuses as to why I “can’t” obey.
What I’m trying to show you is that I cry out “Hosanna in the highest” with my praise, but I also cry out “Crucify Him” with my sin.
The thing is, so do you.

It’s so easy for us to stand here 2,000 years after Jesus was crucified and point back into history and blame the Romans. “Oh, we didn’t crucify Christ; the Romans did.” But you see, Jesus didn’t just die on the Cross for the sins of the Romans, or the Jews, or the Israelites. Jesus died on the Cross for the sins of all mankind from the beginning of time to the end of time. That includes our sins right smack dab in the middle of the timeline. Christ died for our sins. We killed Him.
We killed himIn a world without sin, Calvary wouldn’t have been required. But because we sin, an offering was demanded for God’s wrath to be appeased, for us to have peace with Him. An offering without blemish. Jesus was the only man that could offer himself as a lamb without imperfection. Jesus was not born of Man (sin), He was born of Spirit (God), therefore Jesus had no sin nature like us. He was born purely holy and remained holy all His life. Jesus was the only offering that could reverse the curse of sin. Therefore, on Good Friday, Jesus Christ laid down His life at Calvary to wash away the sins of the world.
Our sin sent Him there. Our sin cost Christ His life.
Now, I’m not trying to condemn you with this. Nobody wants to consider themselves the murderer of Christ.
I just want you to see why we must take sin seriously.
Your next question may be: Well, do the sins that I commit today and in the future affect the pain Christ felt over 2,000 years ago? Ask yourself the reverse of that: Does Christ’s death 2,000 years ago cover my sins of today and tomorrow? The answer is yes both ways.
When Christ died on the Cross for our sins, He died for all of time. Not just for the sinners at that moment in time, or for all the sinners who died before that point in time. He died to cover the multitude of sin over the course of time itself. So yes, our sins today hammered those nails into His hands back then.
As Christians, we don’t have to sin. Knowing we have a sin nature is different than indulging that sin nature. Next time temptation comes for me, I’m going to consider Christ’s suffering before I act.

3 Books I’ve Beta Read (Now Published)
Check out these newly released books! Featuring a spy novel with an unpredictable plot twist, a fairy coloring book you won’t find just anywhere, and a kids book that sold over 100 copies during its release week.
Pebbles and the Biggest Number by: Joey Benun After hearing about the release of the book, my kids were BEYOND thrilled to find out what the biggest number is. The day the book arrived they both had the book completely read in under an hour. My daughter had a blast going down the line of numerical values, and she even vowed to tell her teacher all about the value nonillion in class the next day.
A book that can both entertain and teach is one you should DEFINITELY have on your shelf! Your kids will love journeying with Pebbles and learning all the trivia nuggets along the way. (To be honest, I learned some things myself while reading it.) Love this book! Every home, classroom, and library should have a copy!

Man, what a plot twist! For 3/4 of the book, I sympathized with certain characters and loathed others only for everything to be flipped on its head at the end. The enemies were not who I thought they were at all!
The whole book was a non-stop thrill ride. For the first time in a long time, the solutions to conflict were unpredictable. Characters behaved in ways you wouldn’t have anticipated. Our main character, Jones, ended up in situations that were NOT in his job description. I devoured the book in two days because I just had to keep flipping pages to find out what happens next.
Definitely give this book a read! Jones might not be 007, but he’s not just a teacher-turned-spy either.

Coloring has always been a popular pastime in my family, and I’ve finally found the perfect coloring book! This simple coloring book includes just enough detail per page to appeal to my 7-year-old daughter’s fleeting mind. Pages in other coloring books are always booming with intricate detail that disheartened her. She’d end up just scribbling through the extra detail to feel like she’d accomplished coloring the whole picture. The simple drawings in this coloring book enable our family coloring time to feel like an achievement! She was so proud to hold up the fully-colored page. And we hung it right up on the fridge.
I love also that the coloring book includes an award at the back for coloring all the pictures! And it’s signed by the fairies in the book, how adorable!
Grateful that we gave this coloring book a try. You should too!

John Wick Chapter 4 Review
!! SPOILERS AHEAD !!
John Wick 4. Where to begin…
After Chapters 1-3, my anticipation for this movie included: an overload of action, a plot seething with revenge, and for the High Table to go down. What Chapter 4 served was an unexpected story.
Donnie Yen
Let’s talk about some martial art supremacy here. Donnie Yen was one of the main reasons I was thrilled to finish off this franchise. If you don’t know Donnie Yen, get to know Donnie Yen. You won’t regret being entertained by his talent.
Donnie Yen plays Caine, a blind assassin with an endearing backstory. But do you know why they made him blind? Because Yen’s skillset superseded Wick’s, so they had to up the stakes by blinding him. (This is a semi-joke.)

For once in a movie with an American lead, they let the Asian guy LIVE ALL THE WAY THROUGH! Praise God! FINALLY! It’s about time, Hollywood!
Donnie Yen was not a side character. He was not a one-scene antagonist. He played a vital role in the entire storyline and he made it all the way through to the end. Thank you, God!
Yen’s performance was as flawless as I expected. He made the choreography look easy. What impressed me most about him, though, was he actually played the character blind. During fight scenes, you’ll see him hesitate while he’s tuning into his surroundings before reacting physically. Just like a sensory-deprived person would. He didn’t react instantly to situations or portray the combat scenes like the practiced sequences they were. Major props for playing blindness realistically!
I also love that Chad Stahleski (director) didn’t go super dramatic with Yen’s sword use. There were no scenes with swords bursting out of the chests of adversaries, spraying blood everywhere. It kept Yen’s fight scene classy, and then the one time when he did cause arterial spray had more impact because of the clean set up prior to. Nicely done.
Listen to Her Purr
For a solid three minutes, we were spoiled with the pleasurable roar of that V8 in the car fu scene around the Arc de Triomphe. Wick’s car wasn’t a Mustang, but my goodness, a girl can’t complain about an engine like that sweet talking through an exhaust like that.

Now that I think about it, it’s probably best that it wasn’t a Mustang. The adrenaline-packed action sequence of John driving headfirst into oncoming traffic mixed with the sound of that engine and the sight of a Stang might have just made me ooze in my seat. I’ll let the ‘Cuda have its moment. Least it’s not Mopar.
Pulling Punches
The reason I dove headfirst in John Wick to begin with wasn’t the allure of his Boss 429, though a Stang like that does rev up a girl’s heart. No, it was the action for me. I have always preferred the raw and real fight scenes over the cosmetically appealing fight scenes. Fight Club over Rush Hour, if you will. So, when John Wick came out with choreography that was bloody and practical, I was all in.
But in Chapter 4, punches were definitely pulled, and logic was thrown out the window. Two scenes in particular stand out:

At the Osana Continental when John was using nun-chucks against the armored guards, he hit one of them in the helmet and they reacted as if they were wounded by it. We know from John Wick 3 that the armor of the High Table troops is bulletproof. So, if a bullet can’t penetrate their armor, tell me how they all died by getting shot in the chest and hit in the head with nun-chucks.
John tumbled down—gosh, I lost count of how many—flights of stairs right before the final fight scene and got back on his feet like nothing even happened. And that’s after he’d been fighting for over eight solid minutes. Where was the realism I had come to love and know about the John Wick franchise?

Not only that, but the extras were stalling for their chance to have Wick one-on-one. One guy in the Osana Continental even shuffled his feet like he was slipping on butter to give Wick a chance to finish with his current attacker. Come on…Wick has spent three solid movies establishing his entire identity on being able to take on the world. But in Chapter 4, he couldn’t take on more than one guy at a time?
And in fight scenes where there were three or more guys in a tight location all aimed at Wick, not a single one of those trained assassins managed to even wound the Baba Yaga.
Filmmakers overused the Kevlar suit and downgraded the opponent to elevate the main character. That’s a cheap shot you won’t find in the previous three films.
Asian Culture Birthed a New Story
Having ties to Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada brought a wisdom to the storyline that wasn’t present before. Revenge had fueled the first three movies, but here we saw revenge ironed out with loyalty and brotherhood. These are trademarks of Asian culture, especially when it comes to martial arts films, and it gave Chapter 4 a rich sense of purpose. A heart, per se.

John Wick Chapter 4 was a beautiful finale to the franchise. What the action lacked, the characters and themes definitely made up for.
Have you seen the movie yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it in the comments! Thanks for reading!

How to Pray the Lord’s Prayer
After hearing Pastor Chad Glover preach the six characteristics of the Lord’s Prayer from Matthew 6:9-13, I decided to build a prayer week to memorize these characteristics and apply them to my family’s prayer life. Here’s the breakdown of how to pray the Lord’s Prayer.
Monday: God’s Character
“Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed by thy Name”
The opening of the Lord’s Prayer is recognition of who God is. His name is hallowed (or, made holy). He is a father. And He is the highest authority in all of creation.
Unveiling God’s character at the start of a prayer is both worship and an expression of relationship. That you know who it is you’re talking to, and you have faith that He loves you enough and is powerful enough to provide what it is you’re praying for.
Focus on characteristics of God that are associated with what you’re praying for.
Example: “God, I know you are the Healer. The paralytics who can walk, the blind who can see, the brokenhearted who are put back together. All that You did, Lord. So I know You can heal [person].”
Tuesday: God’s Will
“Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”
What we pray for should reflect that we desire God’s will be done in and through our lives. After all, His will has our spiritual best interest in mind.
I taught my children to pray for what they want with this tag preceding or following everything: “If it be your will God.”
Example: “If it be your will, God, please help me land this job.”
Example: “I need to be healed of this infirmity, God. Please heal me, if it be your will, Lord.”
Prayer is also the perfect place to submit yourself to God’s will. To surrender your mind and flesh to Him; God’s will is for us to provide a clean temple for the Holy Spirit to dwell in. Surrender your plans for His; God will often goad you away from a job, relationship, a big purchase to align you with His will for your life. Surrender to it.
Wednesday: Your Needs
“Give us this day our daily bread”
No matter how major or minor the need, God wants to provide it for you. You need open heart surgery? God’s going to see you through it. You need a dining room table to gather your family for supper? Watch God give it to you. Nothing pleases God quite like you having need of something and you coming to Him for it. What an expression of faith.
(Remember the “if it be Your will” part.)
Example: “God, I need help paying the rent this month. Please, I can’t do this on my own. I need You.”
Example: “Father, I want a partner who pleases You. Not someone of this world. I want someone who seeks You first.”
Example: “Lord, my best friend has been struggling with depression lately, and I feel helpless in the situation. Please, God, move in her heart to draw her out of the valley and close to You.”
Thursday: Forgiveness
“And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.”
In order to be forgiven, we must first forgive others (Matthew 6:14). This is the part of the prayer when you repent your sins and seek forgiveness for them. But this is also your opportunity to forgive those who have “trespassed against you.” This process of repenting will keep the Devil from using your sins against you, and forgiving others will prevent your heart from hardening.
The most important part about praying for forgiveness, though, is believing you have received it. You don’t need to beg “forgive me” more than once. Upon that first request, God has granted it. Repeatedly asking for forgiveness is a lack of faith in God’s character of forgiveness. Once is enough.
Example: “Today, Lord, I gossiped behind my co-worker’s back. I get so frustrated by the way she slacks off while the rest of work our tails off! But it was wrong. Philippians 2:14 says we should do all things without gossiping, so I transgressed against that. Please forgive me.”
Friday: Protection
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”
1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober and vigilant: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” This is who we need protection from. The tempter. The accuser. The father of lies.
God is our deliverer. Pray that He shows you the escape routes when temptation arises. Pray that the Holy Spirit seals you. Pray for the transformation of your thoughts from worldly to holy. Pray that God goes with you and defends you because you are nothing without Him (John 15:5).
Example: “Jehovah, please protect me from the fiery darts of the Enemy. Whatever Satan throws my way today, please be the power behind my shield of faith to thwart his plans.”
Example: “God, I am lost in the wilderness. I can’t shake this addiction. Please, Lord, deliver me.”
Saturday: Direction
“For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.”
How can we give God the glory in our lives today? Who can we make disciples of to spread the kingdom of God on earth? Pray for direction. Where does God want to send you? What is God calling you to? How are you growing spiritually?
Allow God to direct your life. Jeremiah 29:11 promises He has plans to prosper us, not to hurt us. Trust in God fully knowing He will never lead you into anything but spiritual success.
Example: “God, I surrender my day, my future, my finances, my work, my children, all of it. I surrender it to You. Lead me where You need me, Lord.”
Sunday: The Lord’s Prayer (all together now)

Why Become a Copyeditor?
From Spiritual Warfare writer to beta reader to copyeditor. What made me want to take on the editing world? The needs of my fellow writers and the needs of my family.
For My Fellow Writers
Editing was always my favorite step in the publication of my own novel—aside from actually writing the book, of course. After opening my beta reading gig in July 2022, God sparked the possibility of starting up a gig for editing. I thought, if I could combine my editorial passion with a developed skill in the trade, I could provide writers with a well-needed service.
I set a deadline for spring and dove headfirst into studying. I made sure to focus on both American English and British English to expand my skillset for potential overseas clients. I sacrificed sleep and worked two jobs to save money to spend a week transitioning into editing.
Fast forward to March 13th, 2023 when I accepted my first copyediting order. A 58,000-word manuscript by an author dear to my heart. I worked for thirty hours the last five days, and I’ve got to tell you…it was everything I thought it would be! Getting to help those that matter most to me while prioritizing what matters most to them is a dream come true.

For My Kids
Being a single mom means every day that my eight- and ten-year-old are out of school is a day I must also be off work. Babysitters and daycares are impossibly expensive. My younger sister works from home and is always willing to watch my kids. But, in order to redeem that free child care, I had to drive an hour to her house to drop the kids off. And to prevent spending all the money I was making each day in gas, I would have to leave my children at her house for their entire spring/winter break.
The sixteen-hour shift I gained by leaving my kids with my sister was spent holding back the tears and pain of not being able to see my kids when I got home. Going a day or two without my kids was a nice break; but going without them for a week was killing me.

The sixteen-hour shift I gained by leaving my kids with my sister was spent holding back the tears and pain of not being able to see my kids when I got home. Going a day or two without my kids was a nice break; but going without them for a week was killing me. So, God showed me a way out. I devised a financial plan, obeyed a strategic and grueling time schedule, and finally, it all paid off.
March 13th, 2023 marked the first day of my kids’ spring break, and we got to spend it together in our home while I worked my first copyediting gig.
Copyediting was as much for my family as it was for the writing community. Studying to become a copyeditor has been achieved. Now, the goal is to earn that title every day.

Forgiveness, Love, Direction
Author’s Note: Below are three sermons that changed my life. You can skip past the worship introductions to about twenty minutes in when Pastor Chad or Pastor Phil take the stage. You can listen to them like a podcast while you work or clean. I pray that they move your heart as they did mine.
Forgiveness
Revival Weekend 2022, Pastor Chad Glover preached a life-changing message on forgiveness that shook the scales from my eyes. During this sermon, I was brought to my knees with revelation. I had been missing this crucial piece of the forgiving process.
How to Forgive When You’ve Been Hurt
Love
Love is a little lost from Scripture these days, wouldn’t you agree? We’ve got multi-partner relationships, couples with contingencies, friends with benefits, and other ungodly intermingling in the dating world. Pastor Phil Hopper preached just the sermon we need in this age of relational chaos.
Kings & Queens
Direction
Pastor Chad Glover has a way of stirring up the heart with his sermons. When he preached about how God goads us into pursuit of His will, the nature of my heart changed. I wept through a gut-wrenching prayer after learning these fives ways God’s been trying to get my attention.

As a creator, I am always looking for good, honest and detailed feedback in regard to my art. I have hired many beta readers over the years, and I can honestly say that my received overview report was one of the most informative and insightful. If you are looking to learn more about the overall writing experience, get detailed feedback and review your work with care, this is the beta reader to hire.
Jamal, South Korea
Danny is sort of like a Christmas tree, in the way that she’s extremely lit. Lots of genuine, helpful, and constructive feedback. Not just in a gushing, sugarcoaty way about all the good things, but also in a “chief imma be real witchu, this part is just not doin it for me” way, which I really appreciate (but she phrases it far more eloquently than that). I give her two thumbs up, but — dare I say it – if I were an octopus, I would probably give her eight, despite not technically having any thumbs.

She communicated before the gig quickly and clearly, finished ahead of schedule, and did an excellent job. Others should book her now before she realizes that she should at least triple her prices for the value she provides. Even if she ups her fee 4x, she’s worth it.
