Silent Night, Gruesome Night: A Bloody and Brilliant Holiday Horror ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jerry Blaze and Lula Von Goth deliver a holiday horror masterpiece with Silent Night, Gruesome Night. This twisted tale transforms the warmth of Christmas cheer into a chilling, macabre adventure, leaving you equally horrified and enthralled.

🚨 Spoilers Ahead! 🚨

The story reimagines Mrs. Claus as a vengeful antihero, stepping out of the North Pole to exact justice on those who harm children—the “Unknowns.” The gruesome opening letter from a six-year-old girl sets the tone, tugging at heartstrings while paving the way for the carnage to come. Mrs. Claus’s transformation from a kind maternal figure to an unstoppable force of bloody retribution is compelling, shocking, and strangely cathartic.

The blend of vivid descriptions and relentless pacing creates an unshakable tension. Each scene, from Mrs. Claus’s encounter with abusive parents to her eerie moments of self-reflection, is laced with a darkness that feels both surreal and painfully real. The writing doesn’t shy away from graphic detail, but it serves the story's purpose of highlighting the horrors inflicted on the innocent.

The confrontation in the department store, where Mrs. Claus takes down an abusive father with a corkscrew, is both grotesque and satisfying—a stark reminder of the lengths she’ll go to for justice.

“Sometimes, the only way to save the innocent is to become the monster they fear.”

The book isn’t without its moments of levity, however dark they may be. The authors weave in a dry, ironic humor that provides brief relief amidst the chaos. Despite the gore and heavy themes, there’s an undeniable sense of hope beneath it all, a belief in protecting those who can’t protect themselves.

If you’re a fan of holiday horror or stories that push the boundaries of conventional narratives, Silent Night, Gruesome Night is a must-read. It’s bold, brutal, and unforgettable.

The Hidden Diary: A Haunting and Heartfelt Tale That Will Keep You Turning Pages ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Cassandra O'Sullivan Sachar delivers another fantastic installment in the Bone Chillers series with The Hidden Diary. Packed with an eerie atmosphere, compelling mystery, and relatable characters, this book perfectly blends spooky fun and emotional depth. From the first page, it pulls you into Alyssa’s world and doesn’t let go.

🚨 Spoilers Ahead! 🚨

The story follows Alyssa Morgan as she moves into an abandoned farmhouse in the countryside with her mom and little brother, Billy. While the house’s neglected state and haunting rumors set the stage for unease, the real mystery begins when Alyssa discovers a hidden diary belonging to Elaine, a girl who lived there in the 1970s. Through the diary, Alyssa learns about Elaine’s fears, particularly surrounding Frankie, a foster boy her family took in, whose creepy behavior raises red flags.

What makes The Hidden Diary stand out is its dual-layered storytelling. As Alyssa uncovers Elaine’s past, she’s also navigating her own struggles—coping with her father’s departure and adjusting to life in a new town. The friendship she forms with Jeremy, a friendly and slightly quirky local boy, adds warmth and levity to the story, balancing the darker elements.

The moment Alyssa discovers the hidden compartment in the dresser and finds the diary is chilling and exciting, setting the tone for the mystery to unfold.

"Some houses keep secrets buried deep—but some secrets claw their way back to the surface."

The pacing is perfect, with the tension slowly building as Alyssa pieces together Elaine’s story while strange occurrences in the house hint at something supernatural. The small-town setting adds charm and a sense of isolation, enhancing the creep factor.

For middle-grade and YA horror fans, The Hidden Diary is a must-read. It’s spooky without being too scary, heartfelt without being overly sentimental, and an all-around delightful read. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Bone Chillers series or new to it, this book is sure to leave you eager for the next installment.

Twisted Beauty: Glimmers of Intrigue Amid Familiar Tropes ⭐⭐⭐

Summer Cooper’s Twisted Beauty kicks off the Twisted Intentions series with an intriguing premise and compelling drama, but it occasionally stumbles under the weight of overused tropes and uneven pacing. While the book delivers moments of tension and heat, it doesn’t quite break new ground in the crowded dark romance genre.

🚨 Spoilers Ahead! 🚨

The story follows Keily, a former beauty queen turned divorcee, struggling to rebuild her life after her husband’s NFL dreams crumble. Her path crosses with Logan Sinclair, a successful CEO with a mysterious past and a personal vendetta. Their dynamic is built on tension and unresolved history, with Logan intent on making Keily his personal assistant—a role that promises both professional and personal challenges.

Cooper does a solid job establishing Keily’s vulnerability and Logan’s dominance, creating a push-pull relationship that keeps readers engaged. The dialogue between the two is sharp, with moments of genuine chemistry. However, some interactions feel repetitive, and the narrative occasionally leans too heavily on clichés of the genre, such as the arrogant billionaire and the feisty but struggling heroine.

The job interview between Keily and Logan crackles with tension, especially as Logan begins to see through Keily’s polished facade, testing her in ways that highlight her resilience and desperation.

"In Logan’s world, trust wasn’t given—it was earned. And Keily had a lot to prove."

While the book sets up the stakes well, some aspects of the story feel underdeveloped. While compelling, Logan's mysterious motivations overshadow Keily’s backstory and internal struggles. Similarly, the pacing fluctuates, with some scenes dragging while others rush through pivotal moments.

For fans of dark romance, Twisted Beauty offers enough intrigue and steamy tension to keep the pages turning. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it lays the groundwork for what could be a captivating series.

The Death Digger by Boe Healy (with Chisto Healy) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Death Digger is a thrilling, imaginative, and delightfully disturbing horror tale crafted by an extraordinary young talent, Boe Healy, with the assistance of his father, Chisto Healy. This collaboration delivers a uniquely chilling experience that combines childhood whimsy with nightmare-inducing terror—a haunting fairy tale for adults.

🚨 Spoilers Ahead! 🚨

The story begins with an idyllic scene that quickly devolves into horror. Goldie and Lionel, proud new parents, are shattered when their baby, Timmy—nicknamed Tigger—is mysteriously snatched from his crib in the dead of night. Their idyllic family life transforms into a desperate quest when a mysterious, decrepit old woman appears, offering cryptic guidance. She reveals that their child has been taken by the Death Digger, a ghastly creature living on a cursed farm at the end of a shadowy, otherworldly road.

The Healy duo’s skill in crafting an eerie atmosphere is evident from the moment the couple enters the fog-drenched path to the farm. The descriptions of twisting shadows, whispering wheat stalks, and unnatural darkness create a suffocating sense of dread. The old woman’s chilling warning—“If you’re too late, your child’s soul will be lost forever, and the Digger will grow stronger.”—sets the stakes sky-high.

When Goldie and Lionel arrive at the Death Digger’s domain, they find a horrifying tableau: a graveyard littered with ominous tombstones and a barn filled with white plastic bags containing grotesquely mutilated remains. The Digger itself is a monstrous, spectral figure clad in tattered gray robes, with skeletal limbs and a mouth that opens into a seemingly endless void. Its eerie ability to dismantle children’s bodies, harvesting their life force like strands of thread, is both revolting and mesmerizing.

One of the book’s most memorable and harrowing moments occurs when Goldie digs up a grave, only to find a dismembered child floating in a pool of crimson liquid. Her desperate attempt to reassemble the boy is interrupted by the Digger’s enraged arrival, culminating in a heart-stopping sequence where the creature violently reclaims its victim, tearing him apart once more in front of their horrified eyes.

Standout Quote:
“The Death Digger isn’t just a monster—it’s the embodiment of despair, feeding on the innocence of the young and the desperation of the grieving.” This line encapsulates the story’s chilling core, blending supernatural horror with profound emotional stakes.

The climax is a relentless battle of wits and courage as Goldie and Lionel race against time to save their son. Despite their best efforts, the Digger’s overwhelming power leaves them grappling with impossible choices. The ending is both devastating and thought-provoking, leaving readers haunted by the lingering questions of what defines sacrifice and survival.

Boe Healy’s vivid imagination shines through every page, while Chisto Healy’s refined writing elevates the narrative into a polished, chilling masterpiece. The Death Digger is a testament to the boundless creativity of a young storyteller and the collaborative magic of a father-son duo. It’s a must-read for fans of dark fantasy and horror, blending grim fairy tale elements with gut-wrenching terror.

His Cinderella: A Story with Potential That Falls a Bit Flat ⭐⭐

Vivi Paige’s His Cinderella had all the ingredients for a gripping dark romance—an intriguing setup, a conflicted heroine, and a powerful, possessive hero—but unfortunately, it doesn’t quite hit the mark. While there are moments of tension and drama, the story sometimes struggles with repetitive dialogue and uneven pacing, leaving it feeling a bit underwhelming.

🚨 Spoilers Ahead! 🚨

The plot follows Ella Ashmore, a once-talented ballerina who’s now facing hard times, and Deryk Mayne, a mysterious and obsessive man who enters her life at her lowest point. The initial premise of Ella being “rescued” from a degrading situation and thrust into Deryk’s intense world is compelling, but their relationship lacks the emotional depth needed to make it feel authentic.

Deryk is meant to be a possessive alpha hero, but his controlling tendencies often seem more unsettling than romantic. Ella, meanwhile, has moments when her strength and vulnerability shine, but she’s frequently overshadowed by Deryk’s overpowering presence. The tension between them is palpable, but the story rushes through their development, leaving the romance feeling unbalanced.

The auction scene where Deryk steps in to “save” Ella is undeniably dramatic and had me hooked, even if the follow-through left me wanting more.

"You’re mine, Ella. Always have been, always will be."

While there are some engaging moments, the story’s reliance on clichés and predictable twists makes it hard to fully connect with the characters. That said, fans of dark romance who enjoy high-stakes drama and possessive heroes may still find something to enjoy here.

His Cinderella had potential, but it didn’t quite deliver on its promise. However, with a little more focus on character development and balance in the relationship dynamics, Vivi Paige could have something truly captivating in future works.

To Hell With Hallmark by Brad Ricks ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book is for you if you’ve ever rolled your eyes at a Hallmark Christmas movie. Brad Ricks delivers a hilarious, gory, and totally bonkers take on holiday cheer in To Hell With Hallmark. It’s a satire, a splatterpunk nightmare, and a dark love letter to Christmas all rolled into one. 🎄🩸

The story starts in Hallmark, Vermont—a town straight out of a cheesy holiday movie, complete with tree lightings, cookie competitions, and an ever-present blanket of snow. But this time, things take a dark turn. From murderous gingerbread men to romantic plot twists with a body count, Hallmark’s idyllic facade is peeled back to reveal the chaos and carnage underneath.

🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨
One of the standout moments is the Gingerbread Cookie Throwdown. At first, it seems like a typical Hallmark competition, but when the cookies come alive—armed with miniature swords and daggers—it becomes a full-on battle royale. Tray Eight’s horde of small but fierce gingerbread men was pure chaos, but Tray Eleven’s massive, melted monstrosity stole the show in the most horrifying way. The image of its jagged, melted stare is seared into my brain.

The book also follows Jenny, the Hallmark librarian looking for love, and Glenn, the charming stranger who arrives in town with his golden retriever. But Glenn isn’t who he seems, and the reveal of his true nature is chilling. The line, “The dimples gave you away...I’m your biggest fan,” as Jenny turns the tables on him, is both empowering and terrifying.

Its absurdity and dark humor balance make To Hell With Hallmark shine. It twists every Hallmark trope—small-town charm, romantic meet-cutes, and holiday traditions—into something grotesque yet wildly entertaining.

To Hell With Hallmark is the perfect pick if you’re in the mood for a holiday story that’s equal parts festive and horrifying. Just be warned: you’ll never look at gingerbread cookies the same way again.

Skin That Screams by Thomas Stewart ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Skin That Screams by Thomas Stewart is a deeply unsettling and unrelenting dive into the grotesque world of body horror. This collection of short stories is visceral and expertly crafted to leave your skin crawling—literally. This book is an absolute must-read if you’re a splatterpunk and psychological terror fan.

🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨
The collection kicks off with My Body’s Screaming, a horrifying tale about a man whose skin literally begins to scream, revealing the agony of countless voices trapped within him. The vivid description of his body splitting open with “cavernous, yawning gashes” that emit deafening screams is nightmare fuel. His struggle to make sense of the grotesque transformation while paramedics recoil in horror sets the tone for the macabre themes ahead.

One of the most impactful stories, Plastique Wipes, explores societal obsession with beauty. Rita, a disillusioned woman, tries a new experimental beauty product promising miraculous results. At first, her skin becomes flawless and radiant, but the price is steep—her face begins to rot away, leaving her a skinless husk. The quote, “Her lifeless, skinless eyes stared up at the ceiling, forever frozen in perpetual horror,” encapsulates the chilling climax.

Another standout is Jared’s Other Half, a disturbing tale of a man whose reflection gains independence, becoming a violent doppelgänger determined to replace him. The psychological and physical torment Jared endures is both tragic and terrifying.

What makes Skin That Screams exceptional is Stewart’s ability to weave personal vulnerability into his horror. His raw, honest introduction about his struggles with anorexia and body image gives these stories an additional layer of poignancy. Each tale forces readers to confront fears about identity, physicality, and societal expectations in ways that are as thought-provoking as they are grotesque.

The writing is vivid and fast-paced, immersing you in scenes of gore and terror while delivering sharp commentary on human frailty. The variety of stories ensures there’s something for every horror fan, though the consistent theme of body horror might push some limits—exactly what makes this book so compelling.

If you’re brave enough to face these screaming skins and unraveling psyches, Skin That Screams will haunt you long after you’ve turned the final page.

Christmas Frights by Dawn Colclasure ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Christmas Frights is an absolute treat for horror fans who want a festive twist with their scares. Dawn Colclasure masterfully combines the holiday spirit with bone-chilling terror, creating a collection of darkly imaginative poems and stories that will leave you laughing, cringing, and maybe double-checking your Christmas tree for hidden axes. If you love twisted holiday tales, this one’s a must-read. 🎄☠️

🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨
The collection kicks off with A Tree of Heads, where a host proudly displays his Christmas tree “decorated” with miniature heads. The twist? They’re made from his unfortunate guests, whom he processes in a grotesque machine to create “ornaments.” The macabre imagery is both horrifying and hilariously creative.

Another standout is Rudolph’s Revenge, which flips the beloved reindeer’s story into a bloody tale of vengeance. Fed up with years of bullying from the other reindeer, Rudolph takes matters into his own hooves, using a hatchet to ensure he’s never mocked again. The visual of Santa casually shrugging at the carnage, saying, “I guess I’ll have to get new reindeer,” had me laughing out loud.

And let’s not forget Santa and His Slay. This Santa doesn’t bring joy—he brings an axe. The image of him dressed in black, stalking through homes, and delivering his own brand of Christmas punishment is pure nightmare fuel.

One of the creepiest entries is The Children on Santa’s Naughty List. In this tale, naughty kids aren’t just scolded—they’re abducted, turned into elves, and forced into eternal servitude at the North Pole. The line, “Santa finds new children to take back with him to become elves,” sent shivers down my spine.

Colclasure’s writing shines in its vivid descriptions and dark humor. Whether it’s murderous snowmen (Slaughtering Snowmen) or stockings filled with terror (Surprises in the Stocking), each piece is packed with gruesome creativity.

“The tree chopped up the family living there, satisfied with itself. Then, the wood fairy returned the tree to its rightful place in the forest ground.” (The Poor Christmas Tree)

This collection isn’t for the faint of heart—it’s graphic, darkly comedic, and unrelenting in its horror. But if you’re someone who likes their Christmas tales with a side of gore, Christmas Frights is an absolute delight.

A Christmas Queef by Asher Dark ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What did I just read?

Asher Dark’s A Christmas Queef is a rollercoaster of hilarity, absurdity, and gore. It’s outrageous, irreverent, and totally unlike anything I’ve encountered in extreme horror. This book is a must-read if you’re looking for a festive splatterpunk fever dream that’ll leave you laughing and cringing in equal measure. 🎄🩸💨

The story follows Sally Claus, Santa’s vengeful cousin from the Winter Courts, who uses her one night of magical empowerment on Christmas Eve to deliver justice (in the most bizarre ways imaginable) to the worst criminals. From abusive parents to dark web predators, no one is safe from Sally’s unique style of punishment.

🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨
The book wastes no time setting its wild tone. Sally Claus doesn’t make toys—she makes vengeance. Her “Star of Vengeance” identifies the worst offenders based on children’s pleas for help, and she delivers punishment with... unconventional methods. Take the chapter where she uses Frosty the Snowman’s own melting anatomy to humiliate him for his past crimes. Or the iconic scene where she delivers a glittering, queef-produced Christmas present to a monstrous abuser—only for it to explode with cursed army men that destroy him from the inside out.

Sally is an unforgettable protagonist. She’s ruthless, witty, and chaotic. Her ability to turn trauma into power is genuinely empowering, even as the book leans heavily into campy, splatterpunk absurdity. The gore is over-the-top (we’re talking exploding genitalia and murderous toys), but it’s balanced with dark humor and moments of genuine emotional depth.

The villains are irredeemably awful, which makes their punishments all the more satisfying. Nathaniel Karloff, the book’s primary antagonist, is a dark web kingpin responsible for unspeakable atrocities. His demise at the hands of Sally’s magical army men is both grotesque and cathartic.

What I loved most is how the book doesn’t take itself too seriously. The ridiculous scenarios (like Sally queefing out holiday presents) somehow work within the bizarre logic of this world. It’s part horror, dark comedy, and Christmas satire—and somehow, it all comes together beautifully.

If you’re in the mood for something bold, brash, and completely out there, A Christmas Queef is a holiday horror gem. Just don’t expect a traditional Christmas tale—this one’s all blood, guts, and glittery chaos.

The Complete Guide to the Ouija Board by Eleonora Zaupa ⭐⭐⭐

The Complete Guide to the Ouija Board is a fascinating dive into the history, practices, and myths surrounding this infamous tool. Eleonora Zaupa writes with passion and a deep sense of exploration, presenting a mix of historical context, practical advice, and her personal experiences. While it’s packed with interesting information, the book didn’t quite resonate with me as much as I’d hoped—it’s thorough, but it felt like it dragged at times. That said, this is a solid resource for enthusiasts of the paranormal and esotericism.

🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨
The book starts off with Zaupa recounting her first time using an Ouija board, which she crafted by hand with a friend. Their session was surprisingly uneventful until they "charged" the board with energy, after which the coin started moving. Zaupa's personal anecdotes are engaging, especially when she shares encounters with mischievous spirits and how she handles encounters with more sinister energies.

The historical section is rich with detail, tracing the origins of the Ouija board back to the 19th century when it was marketed as a toy rather than a mystical tool. I loved the bit about how the name “Ouija” came to be—it was allegedly suggested by the board itself, meaning “good luck.” The cultural shift in perception after The Exorcist movie was also fascinating, as it turned the board from a parlor game into a symbol of dark, supernatural danger.

The practical advice sections are where the book shines for readers genuinely interested in using an Ouija board. Zaupa emphasizes the importance of respect, preparation, and protection. Her tips on cleansing and closing a session are invaluable, as is her advice to remain calm if encountering a malevolent entity. However, some parts, like the instructions for crafting your own board, felt overly detailed for my taste.

The book does a great job of debunking myths—no, burning an Ouija board won’t curse you for life, and no, demons aren’t automatically waiting to possess anyone who uses one. Zaupa balances skepticism with respect for the supernatural, which I appreciated.

The writing occasionally felt repetitive, and the scientific explanations of the ideomotor effect didn’t blend well with the more mystical elements. It’s clear Zaupa knows her stuff, but at times, it felt like she was trying to cover too much ground, making the book feel more like a textbook than a guide.

Overall, while The Complete Guide to the Ouija Board is informative and passionate, it didn’t fully resonate with me. That’s not to say it’s a bad book—it’s just a bit too dense and specific for casual readers. This might be a perfect fit for die-hard fans of the Ouija board and paranormal enthusiasts.
