Strange Times, Day 28: Four Week Check-In with Bonus Dog Content

It’s been four weeks since anything about my life felt “normal” — like, the part where I go to work every day, and grocery shop without fear, and all that. How are you doing? Here’s how I’m doing … plus, some glimpses of the world’s loveliest dog, Gal.

Strange Times Day 20: One More Book Recommendation for Empathy

This is a book that I’ve raved about at length elsewhere, but in this video I want to focus specifically on how it made me think about empathy, especially for people who do bad things — a timely topic right now.

Strange Times Day 18: Grocery Adventure!

I honestly cannot say enough good things about the staff at Sobeys and the other customers there this morning. Lots of precautions taken, lots of sanitizing and physical distancing, great attitude from everyone! And NO shortages of needed items!

Also I have never bought this many groceries at one time in my life — I’m normally a run-to-the-store-every-other-day person to get all the odds and ends I forgot. Today’s shopping trip called for a level of precision and planning I don’t usually manage, but I’m feeling relaxed knowing I don’t have to go out again for at least another week or longer.

Strange Times Day 15: A Special Guest Book Recommendation

I share the camera with my beautiful daughter Emma today (and tomorrow as well!) to continue my theme of books that spark empathy. If you’re interested in a book series that will help kids feel empathy for people in a situation different from theirs, Emma has a great suggestion.

Strange Times Day 14, Book Recommendation #2

Today’s book made me think about the difference between sympathy and empathy, and also about what a privilege it is to be safe at home.

Strange Times Day 13: Book Recommendation #1

Following off of yesterday’s video about how stories help us build empathy (something we need so much right now!) I’m going to recommend a few books that have helped me develop empathy for people and situations I might not have thought about otherwise. My first one was … unexpected, for sure. You can read my review of the book in question here, but watch the video for my thoughts about this book and the question of empathy:
