Studied History and Law at Queens’ College, Cambridge. Briefly worked in banking and recruitment before settling on a career in teaching.
Taught at Elizabeth College, Guernsey and was then head of department at The School of St Helen & St Katharine, Abingdon. Finally, was Director of Sixth Form at St Mary’s, Ascot.
Retired to the Isle of Skye where I am climbing all the Scottish mountains over 3000 feet.
Wrote my first novel in 2020, Needing Napoleon. The sequel, Serving Shaka, is due out in Spring 2022. I have completed the third instalment in what I call The Richard Davey Chronicles. This is currently with my editor.
I am now working on a standalone historical adventure set during and immediately after the American War of Independence.

On the other hand, all high school history teachers have had to pick up new topics, and I do enjoy the research phase of a new book.
I am currently writing a fictional biography of William Augustus Bowles who was born in Maryland but died as a prisoner of the Spanish in Havana, Cuba. 132000 words and rising!(less)
Gareth Williams I do something else. Climb a mountain or get out on my bicycle - both easy to do as I live on the Isle of Skye. Usually, I come back with an idea.

Birds, Beasts and Relatives by Gerald Durrell

Durrell’s writing is among the best of all nature writers and he turns his observational skills on his family with unflinching humour too. These tales of an idyllic Corfu childhood snatched before the shadow of war are echoes of a lost world.

A play about the absence of faith and its return, about blocked memory being unlocked and the possibility of reframing relationships. Greene’s tortured Catholicism is front and centre without suffocating his characters, most of whom are atheists.
