Those Are People

Hey hey, everyone! I apologize in advance if this post isn’t very cohesive; I just got back from an exhausting trip, and despite sleeping like a baby last night, my brain is still not working properly (which is normal for me, but anyway).

This is sort of a hybrid post; somewhat of a Veteran’s Day tribute, a bit of an exploration of the whys behind my writing, and a life update. And I feel like the quote I’ve chosen may not be the best lead-in for talking about writing military fiction, but ...

The Write Into Fall Tag

I was gonna do a movie review of Martin Luther (1953) for Reformation Day, but for personal reasons I decided not to. (Don’t ask.) So instead you get a tag that Katja surprised me with. 😆

And I’m gonna steal the tag graphic even though I wasn’t part of Novelists in November, because it’s so pretty! 😇

ONE: What project + book are you most excited to work on this fall?

Yesterday Was Long Ago. And Motto of Glory too, if my brain will get anywhere with it 🙄 Both of which have zero fall vi...

An Interview with Given Hoffman (Author of the MARKED Series)

Hi y'all! You might have noticed that I haven't been very active on here for the past few weeks - reason being, I had to switch web host providers and that's been a nightmare. 😣 But we're now up and running again, thank God, and to celebrate here's an interview with one of my favorite authors! As you'll recall from a previous post, she's coming out with Book 3 in her medieval adventure series soon, and I'm SUPER EXCITED about it!!! So without more ado, allow me to introduce Given Hoffman! 👏

The “What My Characters Would Think of Me” Tag

So I stole this tag from Journey Bloomfield (actually she told me to consider myself Officially Tagged, so I didn't have to steal it . . . but stealing is fun anyway 😝) and it looked like a lot of fun! Now, I'm not currently writing despondent fantasies where I drag my poor charries through the mud and briar patches, but since my current characters are all soldiers, there's a lot of things I can still do to them. *rubs hands and chuckles in villainous glee* *characters give me concerned looks* ...

A New Kickstarter!

Y’all should know by now that I’m passionate about geeking out over the books I love, as well as spreading the word about other Christian authors. So with that said, I am gonna hop right into today’s post, because I’ve got exciting news!

A few years back, I discovered Christian indie author Given Hoffman. She’s written a contemporary suspense novel – The Eight Ransom – and she’s also been working on a medieval series, MARKED. The first two books, and The Rebel’s Mar...

So, What Do You Do When You’re Not Writing?

The better question would really be – just what are you doing that keeps you so busy you feel like you don’t have time to write about paratroopers, Marines, medieval armies, and all the other hundred and one plot bunnies that clamor for your attention?

But that’s WAY too long to use for a post title. 😜

So, just what DO I do when I’m not writing?

Well, for starters, I have a job making the graphics for board games. I started working for Compass Games in an internship during college, and...

Arr . . . Shiver Me Timbers! 🦜

My dad has been reading us Treasure Island – he first read it to us over ten years ago – and we’re all loving it. Even my brother, who can’t stand pirates, is really enjoying the suspense . . . and the realistic portrayal of pirates as a villainous lot. 😆 It’s giving me good memories of when I was writing The Treasure Beyond, and how much fun I had with that. 🥰

But apropos of that, today be Talk Like a Pirate Day! So hoist the anchor, trim the jib sail, and set off to find ye some doubloons....

My Top 10 Fictional Heroines

Following on my Top 10 Heroes post, I finally compiled a list of my top 10 heroines. And boy, was it hard, because like I complained about before, I have a hard time finding female characters I look up to. Either they're too feminist or too flighty, or they're obsessed with their looks or with guys, or they're just boring. Male characters tend to have WAY more personality and admirable qualities, IMHO. (That's probably part of the reason why I've switched to writing mostly about guys.)

An...

So Long, Bonsai + A New Location

It’s always hard to have to say goodbye to a friend – whether it’s a pet, a beloved character (sorry, [Redacted], I really did love you 😭), or a place that no longer exists. I’ve even been known to cry over people I never knew, but who influenced my life in one way or another. (Don’t judge me, ‘kay? I’m weird.) And now I’m having to say goodbye to my local bookstore, where I’ve had multiple events and even met one of my biggest fans. (CH, you know who you are! 😊)

Bonsai Books opened in late ...

Realization, Revelation, and Event Dates

I know the title of this post sounds really weird and mystical, but don’t worry, it’ll make more sense once I explain. 😆

But first, things are happening!

I have a book signing this Saturday (August 30) at Bonsai Books (in Cheyenne) from 1-3! This is the launch party for We Gave Our Tomorrows, which I’ve been trying to coordinate since May, lol. Oh well, that’s the way life goes. 🫠 And looking further out, on October 11 I’ll be at the Cheyenne library’s annual Local Authors Celebration, whi...
