New Moon
In the new moon period we land up doing a lot of our ele work at sunset and late into the chaotic dark nights when all the ele families come in to drink. In this pic a young female from Big Momma’s family is objecting to our late hours in the bunker.

The Goddess family, lead by fearless Ursula came in today, also with a bunch of babies in tow. The youngsters are clearly enjoying the chance to romp with sibs, cousins and other families’ babies.

Wynona’s New Baby
Wynona is a member of the Actors Herd that got not so subtly kicked out of the
herd in 2012 when her baby Liza was born. And ever since then Wynona has been forced
to make her own little herd with a few of her closest family members. It looks like
that little herd just got one ele bigger this year (Pic 1). Meet Lucy, Liza’s
little sister!
But the really cool news is that whatever caused Susan of the Actors Herd to
kick Wynona out in 2012, she seems to have decided to let it go and today they all
met at the water hole and then left together in one big herd. Something we have
not seen in 4 years (Pic 2).
Who knows, Susan also just had a new baby (see previous post), so maybe she
just mellowed with age. Let’s hope the reunion will stick.
This afternoon sighting was a welcome distraction from finding a Cape cobra
in the outhouse in the morning…

Buckets of Baby Eles at Mushara
The camp is built, the research gear is up and running and the eles are pouring in. 2016 looks like another bumper year for the Mushara eles. LOTS of babies in every herd it looks like. We were rewarded on our first day in camp by the arrival of the Actors herd led by Queen Latifa. Susan (2nd ele from the left in the picture) has a new baby boy.

Woohoo, we just landed in Namibia for Mushara Ele field season 2016! Sorry to be so behind on comms, but now that we are back in the field we will be posting regular updates on how all the eles are doing. This is a pic of Lucille Ball’s family from a previous year. Cant wait to see how everyone is doing out there.
