The unexpected reason why the drive-through line is so long

A digital illustration of a dragon sleeping on the roof of a burger joint ("Up n Away burger" a parody of In-n-out) drive-through at sunset. The dragon's tail is blocking the drive-through. Employees have mixed reactions, both laughing and frustrated. The car line is backing up. Some drivers laugh and take pics, others are annoyed.ALT

Sheeta and the robot

In this digitally painted fanart of Castle in the Sky by Studio Ghibli, we see Sheeta, a young girl with a yellow shirt, puffy pink pants, and two long dark braids, standing on a flower-covered hill at sunset. Her arms are spread wide and little fox creatures run across her shoulder and up her arms. She smiles up at a large robot, also covered in fox creatures, with moss on its shoulders. In the distance we see other buildings of LaputaALT

A digital painting of a huge giant made of moss. She looks like an elderly woman with a walking stick, but is purely green, and has a cloak that looks like patches of different moss species. She walks through a lush forest full of rainbow birds, in front of a blue sky with white clouds.ALT

In the cover of "Seven Ways Through the Woods by Jenn Reese and Devin Elle Kurtz, we see a peachy-skinned girl with dark hair and dark eyes stand with her back to us, turning to look over her shoulder, beckoning us into the scene. She wears a red coat and a teal hat with a pom on top. Beyond her is a sparkling, dazzling green forest, with the silhouette of a leaping gryphon seen through the gap between mossy trees. ALTIn this interior artwork from the book, we see a black girl with small braids in two pigtails on the back of an orange gryphon, leaping from a mossy rock in the forest into a bright blue sky.ALTA procession of children, all of varying skin tones and wearing a rainbow of colorful outfits, race down a forest hill and leap across a sparkling creek in the afternoon sun. They spin and dance in joy.ALTA pale, blonde child wearing blue overalls and a pink sun hat stands atop the back of a shining, rainbow hydra of dragon-like serpents. The hydra forms a raft which drifts down the river in a forest lagoon. ALTHere we see an orange gryphon up close. It has stripes like a tiger, feathered wings, and stands on a mossy branch amidst leaves.ALTHere we see a big, expansive wide image of rolling hills in a forest clearing. A rainbow procession of children leaps through a bright green field on the right. Above them, rainbow dragon-like serpents weave through evergreen trees. A mossy giant with a cape of patchwork grasses towers above the treeline and walks with a walking stick. A woodland pixie sits on a treebranch in a foreground tree which bisects the painting. A red flower releases sparkling, golden pollen on the left. The sky is blue, and golden afternoon light pours diagonally from the left.ALT

Do you think a Caldecott award or honor is possible for Bakery Dragon? It seems to meet the criteria!

Aw that's very kind of you! My personal guess is that it would be a serious long shot - I think it's pretty unlikely, but it would be a very cool surprise if it happened!

You guys over here on Tumblr have been such a massive support for this little dragon since the very first illustration of him in 2021, I wanted to update you all on how the book has been doing!

I was blown away when it debuted at #6 on the Indie Bestseller book list (which charts sales at independent bookstores across the US) and even more blown away when it climbed to the #4 spot this week!

And if you can believe it, Barnes & Noble has also selected it as one of their “Best Books of 2024” !

I’ll have more announcements in the coming months but first let me just say a big THANK YOU! I never ever expected my little book to take flight like this!
