The Check-In
Welcome to THE CHECK-IN, where you can get a sneak peek into my writing progress every week! Read on to find out what I’m working on and how things are progressing in my world.
Here’s the breakdown:
LOS: A Cadence Turing Mystery: IS DONE!! The drafts have been completed, edited, reworked, and given the stamp of approval to send off to the publishers! LOS is the third of my Cadence Turing Mystery series and I feel like the books just keep getting better with every new entry in the series. Release date for this one is slated at October 3rd, 2023! There will definitely be more posts about this in future, so keep an eye out, mystery fans!Bloody is the Night: This is the second book of The Night series and it is so close to being ready to send off to my publisher. I’m aiming for the final draft of this book to clock in between 75k and 80k. If my projections are accurate, I should get it finished by the middle of September, which leaves me just enough time to polish it a bit before submitting it! Everything else…: I have a lot of projects in the “planning” stage at the moment (a.k.a. rattling around my brain). But I’m going to work on my submission for a Mafia Romance Anthology next, now that LOS is off my plate, so look for some movement in that column soon!I was very surprised that working on the final edits of LOS moved as quickly as it did. Happy! But surprised. I think it just goes to show you that sometimes the things you are avoiding the most because they seem super scary are actually entirely within your ability to do — you just need to sit down and do them!
LESSON OF THE WEEK: NOTHING IS UNACHIEVABLE AS LONG AS YOU CAN DEDICATE THE FOCUS AND THE TIME .

Behind the Scenes Sunday
Let’s take a peek at the cogs inside the machine and talk about why I write and how I write on Behind the Scenes Sunday! Today I’d like to talk about how fantastically grateful I am to everyone over the last week who has taken the time to leave a review of my new book Hungry is the Night! Reviews can often make or break a book from authors like me and I know it can be a big ask — but over twenty-five of you have gone to the trouble of letting me know what you think on Goodreads, with the book sitting at an average rating of 4.20 stars!! This doesn’t include the folks who have also gone the extra mile and left reviews on places like Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Storygraph — you all rock my world, absolutely no joke.
Now, I’ve always been of the opinion that reviews, particularly book reviews are for readers — they’re for you all to talk to each other, help each other, share thoughts, etc. They’re not really for me, as the author. If you really want to let me know you’re thoughts on the book, I invite you to reach out via my website’s contact page or leave a comment here. But, am I reading every review on every platform? Honestly? I’m not. It’s a choice every author has to make for themselves, of course, but for me, reading reviews of my work, even positive ones, can be stressful and anxiety producing. Call me a recovering people pleaser, but I truly do wish I could’ve written a book that every person loved and it breaks my heart to know that I haven’t done that – despite the logical knowledge that there was no way I was ever going to do so.
The fact remains, however, that Hungry is the Night has connected with so many of you the way I hoped it would. I am beyond happy to know that fact, ecstatic that my words could entertain, could touch your hearts, and could transport you for a short while from the mundane to the extraordinary! It is all I truly want. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your time and your support. I couldn’t do this without you.

Werewolf Wednesday
Happy Werewolf Wednesday, everyone! The first book of The Night series has been unleashed onto the world! What can you expect from The Night series?
The Night series seeks to explore a dark and dangerous world that prowls beneath the surface of our own, always on the verge of breaking through. The werewolves of that world live in tight knit gangs, or “dens”, for protection from outsiders – and each other. Every major metropolis has one; to belong to a den is to have a family for eternity. But families can be complicated, and the stories contained within the Night series are likewise fraught with obstacles that often stand between these characters and their happily-ever-afters.
A reader picking up a The Night book can be sure to find three things: character-driven, steamy paranormal romance, pulse-pounding plots, and to-die-for destinations. Each book is centered around a different city, and a different set of main characters within that city. Secondary characters will reappear in the background of events, linking the books with a recognizable supporting cast and a shared universe of lore that is consistent from story to story.
If you’re interested in diving into the world of The Night, I’ve got great news: Hungry is the Night is now available on all major platforms! Visit the link here to order your copy and, if you send a copy of your receipt to rsjromance@gmail.com, I will send you back an exclusive eBook of scenes that didn’t make it into the final book!

Behind the Scenes Sunday
Let’s take a peek at the cogs inside the machine and talk about why I write and how I write on Behind the Scenes Sunday! Today I’d like to talk about the common piece of writing advice, “write what you love”, and how taking that advice to heart has changed my life for the better.
As a new writer, I think the advice I came across the most often was to “write what you love”. The thinking behind this nugget of wisdom is multifaceted. If you truly write what you love, write a story you are passionate about, the idea is that that passion and love will shine through your work and speak to readers. I’ve also found that it’s necessary to write what you love because you are going to be spending countless hours, days, weeks, months, and potentially years with the same story and if you don’t honestly and truly love it, it’s going to drive you crazy and make you hate the whole process of writing.
Personally, I have always tried to write what I love. Even when I was told that there was no market for what I was writing, even when I was told that what I was writing was too different, or too niche, or too ‘insert-word-here’. It was important for me to put out the kind of stories into the world that I wanted to read myself. I only ever want to produce work that I can be proud to hand someone face to face and I am so pleased that every book I’ve published so far I feel confident doing just that.
More than that, however, I truly believe that following this advice, “write what you love”, has led my career to the point I have reached. When you write what you love, others who love what you love will find you. You will connect with each other and find ways to lift each other up. I owe a lot to sticking by what I love and writing the stories I wanted to write when I think about why I’ve enjoyed the success that I have.
If you’re interested in checking out a book that I wrote out of love then I’ve got great news for you: my brand new paranormal romance, Hungry is the Night, is now available for preorder on all major ebook platforms! Visit the link here to order your copy in advance and, if you send a copy of your receipt to rsjromance@gmail.com, I will send you back an exclusive excerpt of the book! Three full chapters of wolfy goodness for you to enjoy!

“Hungry is the Night” Book Release
I can’t believe it — there’s only three, count ’em, THREE DAYS before “Hungry is the Night” is yours for the reading! In Seattle, the past doesn’t stay buried—it comes back to bite you.
The werewolves of the world live in tight-knit gangs, or “dens,” for protection from outsiders—and each other. Every major metropolis has one—to belong to a den is to have a family for eternity. However, Grace Holtz, next in line to lead the Seattle den called the Nameless, has had enough of living under the crushing weight of her den’s expectations. Having fled to a small, rural town in Southeast Oregon, her goal is to blend in and be as “normal” as possible for the rest of her unnaturally long life.
But Marcus Bowen, a wolf from the UK-based Feóndulf den—and the closest thing Grace has ever had to a lover—has other plans. Reappearing thirty years after their affair came to an abrupt and bloody end, Marcus needs Grace. He needs her to return to Seattle and arrange an audience with Mama, the current leader of the Nameless and Grace’s estranged grandmother. The leader of the Feóndulf and his heir have both been brutally murdered, and Marcus suspects that Grace and Mama are next.
Teaming up to hunt for the killer in the Emerald City, the pair slowly begin to realize their romance might not be as dead as they thought. However, as it becomes clear that the person they’re looking for holds secrets about both their dens, Marcus and Grace must grapple with competing loyalties, conflicting desires, and ultimately decide what matters more—their dens or each other.

Werewolf Wednesday
Happy Werewolf Wednesday, everyone! Hungry is the Night hits shelves in less than a week, and with that in mind, I’d like to introduce you this week to one of the book’s two protagonists: the fiercely independent Grace Holtz.
I watched as Grace bit down into a slice of rare steak with ravenous abandon, strands of filthy brown hair falling into her diamond-shaped face. She rolled her shoulders back as she chewed, her eyes flickering shut.
Hungry is the night by Robin jeffrey
Name: Grace Holtz
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Reddish brown
Height: 5’7”
Age: Appears to be in her late 20s, but is actually around 130 years old.
Personal Style: Grace spent a large part of her life being dressed to impress and she hated every minute of it. Now she tends to wear whatever she wants whenever she wants, which leads to a lot of mismatched, but not flattering outfits, often leaning towards the casual rather than the formal.
Werewolf or Human: Werewolf.
If Werewolf – Bitten or Born?: Born
If Werewolf – Den Affiliation?: The Nameless – the Seattle den.
Notable Traits: The only living relative of Mama, the leader of the Nameless, Grace is set to succeed her grandmother as head of the den. It’s what she’s been prepared to do since her birth and is absolutely the last thing she ever wants to do. Due to her slightly sheltered upbringing, she sometimes doesn’t fully appreciate the risks she takes.
People Often Say they are: Strong. Independent. Reckless. Curious.
If you’re interested in learning more about Grace, I’ve got great news: Hungry is the Night is now available for preorder on all major ebook platforms! Visit the link here to order your copy in advance and, if you send a copy of your receipt to rsjromance@gmail.com, I will send you back an exclusive excerpt of the book!
