3) Be prepared to fight with self-doubt on a weekly or perhaps daily basis.
4) Don't let anyone talk you out of it, including yourself.
5) Read craft books. Here are some examples of craft books that I've read:
The Emotional Craft of Fiction (Donald Maass)
How to Write Dazzling Dialogue (James Scott Bell)
Stephen King (On Writing)
Save the Cat: Writes a Novel (Jessica Brody)
5 Secrets of Story Structure (K.M. Weiland)

6) Download a TTS tool (better than the standard MS Word reading) that will read your writing out to you. This will help you to get a feel for how your writing sounds. (less)
