Breaking Genre Boundaries: Why 'Lie to Me' is Not Just Another Romance Novel
When we think of romance novels, we often picture a formulaic plot, a damsel in distress, and a knight in shining armor. But 'Lie to Me' by L. Aquila breaks free from these stereotypes and delivers a genre-bending novel that is not just another romance novel.
At its core, 'Lie to Me' is a love story. Layla, the protagonist, falls in love with Cade, her cousin's best friend. But their love story is far from conventional. Layla's past trauma, her aunt's secrets, and the danger that surrounds them make their relationship anything but easy. The romance in 'Lie to Me' is not the story's central focus, but it serves as a driving force behind the plot.
What sets 'Lie to Me' apart from other romance novels is its incorporation of multiple genres. The book is not just a romance novel but a mix of romance, suspense, mystery, and even a little bit of mafia. The author seamlessly weaves these genres together to create a unique, thrilling, emotional reading experience.
The book delves into the dark world of human trafficking, which is a serious issue that affects millions of people worldwide. The author's portrayal of this heinous crime is graphic and accurate. The protagonist, Layla, is a victim of human trafficking, and the author's portrayal of Layla's pain and trauma is heart-wrenching. The book sheds light on this issue and raises awareness, which is commendable.
The book also explores the theme of violence. The author's portrayal of violence is graphic, and readers should be prepared for scenes of brutality. But the violence in the book is not gratuitous; it serves a purpose in advancing the plot and developing the characters. The book comes with a trigger warning, so readers should know this before diving into the story.
The mystery and suspense in 'Lie to Me' are expertly crafted. The author keeps readers guessing until the very end. The plot twists and turns and readers will be on the edge of their seats as they try to unravel the mystery. The pacing of the book is fast, and readers will find themselves turning pages well into the night. The book's incorporation of suspense and mystery adds an element of surprise and intrigue not often seen in traditional romance novels.
The author's character development is also noteworthy. Layla is a complex character, and readers will empathize with her struggles. Cade, Layla's love interest, is also well-developed, and readers will root for their relationship. The secondary characters are also well-crafted, and they add depth to the story. The characters' development throughout the story is not just limited to their romantic relationship but also their personal growth and overcoming their respective past traumas.
In conclusion, 'Lie to Me' by L. Aquila is a genre-bending novel that defies expectations. The book is not just another romance novel but a mix of romance, suspense, mystery, and even a little bit of mafia. Love is in the Air:
You hide underneath the blankets, turning the page slowly, while giggling to yourself. You hear a sound and you quickly shove the book under your pillow, and pretend to sleep.
Your mother opens the door to check up on you. It’s past midnight and you do your best to make sure she doesn’t suspect a thing. As soon as she’s gone, you pull out the romantic novel you had been reading and continue into the night.
Does that sound familiar? Every one of us has been there, especially those who adore the young adult genre.
But what is it about romance novels that makes them so exciting and alluring?
Let’s take a look:
It’s Emotionally Chaotic
You know how you’re reading an emotional scene where the character is pouring their heart out to another character? The feeling you get when they’re confessing is what draws you in.
You feel the emotions the characters are feeling. You can relate to them because you’ve been there. It’s emotionally chaotic; poetic and beautiful. You become one with the character and you can put yourself in their shoes.
These emotions are intensified with various subgenres. For example, in adult fiction, falling in love with the boss or your best friend’s fiancé would be considered ‘forbidden’ or ‘taboo.’
It Helps Us Experience the Impossible
Forbidden love, marrying a rich man, becoming a princess etc. The reason people love romance novels is because they get to live a life they can’t have.
It helps them live in a fantasy and not deal with reality for some time. Through romance novels, they can go through breathtaking adventures and romantic trysts they’ve been hoping to experience.
It Helps us Connect With Others
Even if it’s a fictional character, you invest your time and emotions into them. You connect with the character and learn more and more about them as the story progresses.
You see everything from the protagonist’s eyes. But at times, you’ll get to experience the POV of other characters. In a nutshell, you’re connecting with a dozen characters and seeing the world through their eyes.
Well, there you have it! These are a few reasons why people love this genre.
L. Aquila has something instore for fans of young adult novels. Her books, ‘Lie to Me’ The Layla Duet is a must-read for those who love romance novels.
At the age of seventeen, Layla wakes up one Christmas morning, to gunshots instead of presents. Her world turns upside down with the death of her parents.
She is forced to move in with her aunt and cousin. The only good thing about this is that she Meets Cade. But her aunt is planning something sinister and Layla’s slowly finding out that things in the house she’s living in are not as they seem.
The Duet is available on Amazon.

Page-turners
Who likes to read page-turners? I know I do and that's why I write them as well.
I like to keep you guessing while engaged in my stories. I can't tell you how many books I've read and the second I get bored then it's over for me.
I move on to the next. Not everyone likes a fast-paced novel and that's ok. We all have our own reading pace.
I like to gasp out loud and feel the book as if I'm actually in it.
I recently started writing a college mafia romance and yes this one is super spicy and suspenseful.
I can't wait to share this one with you and I love the feedback, whether it is good or bad.
This only helps me grow as a writer and I believe in that.

He Saved Me (by: L.Aquila)
He saved me when I didn’t know it
He changed me when I didn’t see it
Sometimes I wonder who I would be without him
Most times I know who I could have been without him
I was in a bad place, he made me see
He told me I need to take care of myself
I listened
He told me I need you to be this for me
I changed
He saved me when I didn’t know I wanted to be saved
He changed me when I didn’t know I needed to change
I am still me, but better
Not many people meet their soulmate at fourteen
Not many people get the chance to have them back years later
My friends got me through the hard times
They’re my soul sisters
They believed in me when no one else did
Then he came back
One phone call from my best friend brought him back
She doesn’t know it but she saved me too
I was at my worst
Some people didn’t know how bad and some did
But I did it, I made it and it’s because he saved me
He changed me when I didn’t see it
Sometimes I wonder who I would be without him
Most times I know who I could have been without him

Writing style
We all have our own writing style. What is your favorite thing to write about?
Do you love writing the romantic scenes or the heart pounding suspense scenes?
I have to say that when I write a sex scene it's probably one of the most difficult ones to write because I want to write things I'm afraid my family will read lol
The easiest scenes for me to write are the violent ones, like fighting and suspenseful moments where you literally are gasping out loud. Love those parts of the books when you are so shocked something happened you have to re- read it!!

Hi! I am a new author:)
Hello everyone! I recently just published my first book and it´s called Fleeting Time by L.Aquila.
Writing this book felt amazing, I can´t believe that having such a vivid dream one night would turn into a book.
I woke up at 3 am and started writing this idea down...I had a dream that I was the main character, her name is Lexi. I dreamt I walked into a restaurant only to find my husband with another woman and my children seven years older.
I still remember the pain I felt from it. From that day on I just wrote about how Lexi struggled to put her life back together and if I was was her, what would I do? Would I be ok if that really happened to me? How about adding in another love interest to make things interesting? Then why not throw in a villain and a ridiculous amount of drama?
As a reader myself I get bored real quick so if there is no drama then I´m out.
This book is filled with romance, sexy, sexy and more sexy. There is nothing better than creating something from your imagination.
