I'm taking part in Writing Rumble, a 6-hour writing relay event, where two teams of 6 Nova Scotia writers will be competing to “chain-write” a short story, each of us writing up to 300 words before passing it on to the next author to try to figure out where to take the story next! It’s a fundraiser for the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia, in support of new writers’ residency programs at Jampolis Cottage. The donation is tax deductible. And there are perks!* $15 (and up) gets you a charitable tax receipt in the amount of your donation;* $25 gets you a digital copy of the two team stories* $75 gets you a set of WFNS notebooks* $100 gets you a chance of having your name used in your sponsored team’sstory (we’ll draw for this)* and everyone who donates will be entered for a prize pack of books by Nova Scotia authorsTo donate, or find out more information, visit writers.ns.ca/events/writing-rumble. Once you click on the “Sponsor a Rumbler” link and the PayPal screen comes up, please include my name so they’ll know you’re sponsoring me. Alternately, you may send an e-transfer donation to director@writers.ns.ca and include a note with my name.On Feb 28th, the event will be taking place at the Propeller Brewing taproom at 2015 Gottingen Street, with the first writer’s shift at 2:30 p.m. and a new writer tagging in every 45 minutes, until 7 p.m. And we’ll be reading the stories live at 7:30p.m. Please join us—live prompts will be available for purchase! If you can’t be there in person, follow WFNS on Facebook Live atwww.facebook.com/WritersFedNS/ to see what’s happening. Thanks!

I was delighted to be asked to discuss a forthcoming Moose House Publications book, Less Than Innocent, with fellow Nova Scotia author Carol Ann Cole. In this new novel, nineteen Nova Scotia authors (myself included) collaborated on each writing a chapter set during the lockdown of 2020. The only rules were you only had a week to read the previous chapter and could not reverse the ongoing story. The whole project was a lot of fun and a very interesting spur to creativity. For more details see

Episode 61 of Irish Music Stories: Featuring Francis O'Neill If you are a fan of Irish Music and haven't checked out Shannon Heaton's excellent Irish Music Stories Podcast, you're in for a treat! Shannon explores Irish, Scottish and other Celtic traditions in an engaging manner. Each episode is always accompanied by music and the latest is no exception. A flute-player herself, it was inevitable that Francis O'Neill would appear as a topic....https://chiefoneill.com/irish-music-s...
