Editing Chameleon in a Mirror, and an excerpt for #WIPpet Wednesday
I didn’t get around to posting an update on Sunday because we were painting in the new apartment where my son and his family are going to move in. Afterwards, catching up on the translation and new word goals took up too much time and I didn’t feel like blogging anymore.
Last week, I managed to get 1600 new words written. I also started to go through the edits for Chameleon in a Mirror. I don’t remember if I posted the latest incarnation of the cover yet, so here it is:
Right now, I’m up to c...

The turret, and more from A Wasted Land for #WIPpet Wednesday
Since the turret I mentioned in my WIPpeteer interview seems to have been a big hit, I decided to start this post off with a picture:
It is a rather modest turret, as turrets go, and far from castle-like, but it still makes me happy on a regular basis when I’m walking up the street for home. (For those who were also excited about the parrots and missed that post, I have pictures of them here.)
My progress so far this week is a bit less exciting. I know a number of you caught my post about my f...

Ach du Lieber! It’s WIPpterview Time With Ruth Nestvold
I braved the flying monkeys to enter Kathi’s lair for an interview on “My Random Muse” — check it out!
**Quick note, because I forgot to post my ROW80 update yesterday. That’s because I was busy working on my ROW80 goals! Full update coming on Wednesday.**
Hey, it’s Monday again. Some folks actually have off today. Me, not so lucky. I’m here, slogging away at the day job, nothing to keep me entertained…well, except for another outstanding WIPterview. Today I...

Hey, it's Monday again. Some folks actually have off today. Me, not so lucky. I'm here, slogging away at the day job, nothing to keep me entertained…well, except for another outstanding WIPterview. Today I have the great pleasure of welcoming, all the way from Germany...

Jay Lake fundraiser and a brief update
For several years, Jay Lake and I were writing stories together on a regular basis. Two of the short stories we co-authored made it into Year’s Best anthologies. But then interests shifted, and we both started focusing more on novels, and I stopped visiting cons, and we drifted apart.
And then Jay was diagnosed with colon cancer.
He’s been battling cancer for years now. A while back, his doctors said he was cancer free, and his friends and family, me included, heaved a sigh of relief. But las...

A brief update, and Celemon among the horses for #WIPpet Wednesday
Sunday, I didn’t get around to posting on my progress, so I will just give a brief update here before I get on with the real business of the day, WIPpet Wednesday!
The translation is coming along well again, now that I’ve that I’ve transferred the German into the correct file.
Given the time I need to devote to the translation, it seems to have been a wise decision to only shoot for a page a day of original work for the time being. Because I can proudly announce that I am exceeding my goal on...

Back by popular demand: An excerpt from A Wasted Land for #WIPpet Wednesday
Since you guys were largely agreed that you wanted to see more of A Wasted Land on my snippet days, I returned to the manuscript yesterday and wrote a new scene, part of which I’m sharing with you below. I actually have quite a bit of material after this scene, but it’s much later in the story. My first draft process is very messy. I tend to write a bunch of big, pivotal scenes that really interest me first. (If you’re curious, I’ve written more about my process here.) In between those, I hav...

Some modest writing goals for the first quarter of 2014
The email reminding us to post our first round goals went right under my radar somehow, so I’m coming a bit late to the party this time. I’m going to start out this round with very modest goals. Seeing as I’m behind on the translation, I really have to get caught up with that, and until I do, I’m going to have to allow my writing goals to take back seat for a while. Not only that, there’s been a bit of a setback. I found out today that I was sent the wrong version of the file to translate, an...

E-book promotions: Countdown – meh. Permafree – yay! (kinda)
Way back in the beginning of November, I wrote about the new Kindle Countdown Deals that Amazon had come up with to try to make KDP Select more attractive to writers again. I signed up for a promotion with my collection of short stories, Dragon Time, and promised to write about the results after it was over.
Well, Nanowrimo happened, and then Christmas happened, and now we have 2014, and I still haven’t posted about my results.
There’s one good thing as a result of that, however, and that is...

If You Don't Enjoy Marketing, You're Doing It Wrong
Reblogged from David Gaughran:

I can already feel the heat from approaching pitchforks!
But if you hear me out, I think I can convert at least some of you to the idea that if you don’t enjoy marketing, you’re doing it wrong. Let me explain.
Sometimes marketing can seem like a Sisyphean task. There’s always something you could do to promote your work, and there’s never enough hours in the day.
I *mostly* agree with this, but in my experience, group promos are a lot of...
