It's the final countdown to release day of the final book in the Midlife in Aura Cove series. I cannot wait to hear what readers think about the ending.
As a child of the '80s, no movie captured my imagination quite like The Goonies. It ignited a dream to one day see Haystack Rock in person, and last week, I finally made that dream a reality.
The Oregon coast is absolutely breathtaking—every bit as picturesque as Scotland, yet more accessible. I've completely fallen in love with it. We explored tide pools, indulged in incredible food, and I reset my 'beach clock' with countless barefoot walks along the ocean's edge. Now, a new dream has taken root: to one day own a piece of this magical coastline, where I can spend my summers writing novels from my tiny house. With a little luck, maybe my books will help turn that dream into reality.
Travel inspires my writing. Travel fuels my creativity like nothing else. Some of my most transformative personal breakthroughs have come when I’ve completely unplugged and immersed myself in a new place. Oregon is no exception—you can definitely expect it to inspire future stories.

The ending could have used a bit more finesse, as it felt a little drawn out, but overall, it's a solid and enjoyable read.

To celebrate the completion of my first series and to research a location for the next, I booked a trip to the Pacific Northwest and we landed in Portland, Oregon a few days ago.
The natural beauty here is unreal. The Multnomah Falls-Wakheena loop was an uphill brutal climb that I had to cut short, to save my energy for the Silver Falls Trail of Ten Waterfalls. And wow, was it worth it—easily the most breathtaking scenery I’ve ever seen.
We hiked nine miles with over 1,000 feet of elevation, and I was bursting with joy the whole way. The forest is pristine, the air crisp and clean scented with pine, and the towering 100-foot trees are draped in moss and lichen. We even got to walk behind 3 (or maybe 4?) of the waterfalls! Absolutely magical and a must visit if you love to hike. I will share more about this adventure when we return.

I don’t usually go for historical fiction, but The Frozen River was a masterpiece. The characters are unforgettable, defying societal norms in a way that had me hooked from the start. Martha Ballard is a spunky heroine that will have you fully invested in the challenges of being a midwife. It might just be my favorite read of 2024!

Guess what popped into my inbox this week? An exciting inquiry from AARON’S PROCUREMENT COMPANY LLC asking about ordering 630 book bundles from my website.
Naturally, the Mancake, (a Google Ninja) did some digging. Turns out, the inquiry came all the way from Iceland. But not just any old place in Iceland—nope, this came from the address of The Icelandic Phallological Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of........penises. Yep, you read that right. Wieners. Schlongs. Trouser snakes. There is an entire museum dedicated to them with a bistro and craft brewery inside! I wonder if they serve Rocky Mountain Oysters? Being a curious individual, I just added it to my Icelandic Travel Bucket List. When I get there, I promise to report back.
You can’t make this stuff up! Alas, the order was a scam, but at least it will give us all a good laugh.

Four ingredients never tasted so good! This week was the first time we've ever made homemade pizza crust. Using the recipe from With Spice, we made a pizza that rivals our favorite brick oven pizzeria. Delicious, the texture is exquisite with a crisp bottom and chewy interior, but takes some prep time.
Currently Reading: Black CakeBlack Cake is a beautifully woven family saga that delves into secrets, identity, and the ties that bind us across generations. The story takes the long way around, but is very compelling and insightful. It's told from several different viewpoints and timelines, but is still easy to understand.

Every day, I get messages asking when the audio for the Midlife in Aura Cove series will be available. Well, the Mancake and I just spent the weekend turning our walk-in closet into a recording studio! We added grommets to moving blankets, mounted sound panels to the walls, and learned a lot along the way. I’m so excited to get in there and start recording. Hopefully, I’ll have a release date to share in a few weeks. It’s going to be a full-cast recording, and I can’t wait for you all to hear it!

I turn 50 next year and find myself asking some of the same questions Katie does in the series. Are you in the same place? If so, Midlife in Aura Cove will resonate with you!

Currently Reading: Stars of FortuneThe cast of characters is engaging and likable, and the story moves along at a good pace. I've been reading more fantasy to understand what readers are looking for, and this book was a solid choice. The Prologue was a bit unusual and over the top, but I pushed through my initial hesitation and found the story enjoyable and worth reading. This is the first book I've read by Nora Roberts, and I look forward to seeing how the characters develop in the next two books.
Currently Writing: Outline for my Next Series. More Details to Come.I am thinking through the entire series and mulling over titles and ideas for cover design. This is the most fun part of the process because anything can happen.

Two years ago, I started writing the Midlife in Aura Cove series, and I'm thrilled to say it's now complete! The sixth and final book is currently in the capable hands of my amazing editor for the final polish and corrections, and it feels incredible. It's the first series I've written in the Paranormal Women's Fiction genre, and seeing readers embrace it makes me smile.

Currently Enjoying: Soup Dumplings with a SkirtEarlier this month, on my birthday, my husband and I were at Trader Joe's, and I couldn't resist grabbing a box of frozen chicken soup dumplings after seeing a Facebook reel. I had never tried dumplings before, so at the ripe old age of 49, I decided to give them a go.
To be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed when I opened the box—they looked like shriveled testicles. But I cooked them up using half of this crunchy dumpling skirt recipe, and the result was mind-blowingly good. The combination of the soft, juicy dumplings and the crispy skirt was magical. You absolutely must try these!
