Dr. Lauriston Sharp was an American anthropologist, Asia specialist and educator. He was the creator and founding director (1950-1960) of the Cornell University South-East Asia Program, the first of its kind in the world, which eventually included research centers in Asia, a multidisciplinary faculty and intensive language training programs. He was a founding member of the Society for Applied Anthropology and a founding trustee of the Asia Society.
